Shin Mina aims for zero loss in No Gain No Love

The first teaser has dropped for tvN’s upcoming No Gain No Love (previously No Loss in Love), introducing us to our rom-com’s calculating Sohn Hae-young – played by Shin Mina (Our Blues). She is not about to let anyone give her the short end of the stick and will even get married if that helps her to receive her dues.

Opening on our heroine attending yet another wedding, she hesitates as she enters the venue, explaining that, “The congratulatory money gift is supposed to be a give-and-take, but I’ve only been giving.” Being unmarried, she hasn’t had any milestone events that would allow others to return the favor and as Hae-young mourns the loss of her hard-earned money, we also see the cash amounts that other guests lost gifted in the appearing captions.

It seems though that Hae-young became this way from mistreatment by others in her life and we read in the text screen that she doesn’t want to be shortchanged in both life and love. Hae-young herself continues that, “I don’t like losing out on things and I don’t like giving as well.”

Although he’s not featured here, all this somehow leads to Hae-young seeking out convenience store part-timer Kim Young-dae (Moon in the Day) to ask for his hand in contract marriage. When our heroine reveals her name – which is also her life motto – the very helpful text screen deconstructs the pun: “Sohn Hae” meaning loss and “Young” meaning zero. The teaser then comes to a close on Hae-young’s optimistic view: “Even if you don’t like me, that’s your loss.”

Production for the rom-com has PD Kim Jung-shik (Work Later, Drink Now) at the helm with scripts penned by Kim Hye-young (Her Private Life). Premiering on August 26 in the Monday-Tuesday slot, tvN’s No Gain No Loss will be available internationally on Amazon Prime.

Oh, I missed the fact that this drama was written by the same writer as Her Private Life. I enjoyed that show a lot, but maybe the OTP was a big, mesmerizing factor. Anyway, I'm more interested in this new show, heh.
