Miss Night and Day: Episodes 9-10
by Unit
Given how the show ended its first half, I expected more progress in the romance department this week. Alas, Show seems to have other plans for our prosecutor and his love interest. And it kicks off its second half with both versions of our heroine at the center of different misunderstandings.
EPISODES 9-10
The drama continues its tradition of misdirection, as it turns out that Mi-jin and Ji-woong didn’t actually kiss last week! Our heroine learns the hard way that the downside to drunkenly headbutting her crush on her first day in his house is that his instincts will kick in the next time she brings her face close to his. Unfortunately, what Ji-woong blocks this time is a kiss, not a headbutt. Lol.
Ji-woong instantly regrets it when he realizes what happened, but it’s too late. An embarrassed Mi-jin makes her way back to Ga-yeong’s apartment — where she finds no solace because of all the times and places for her bestie to fangirl over kiss scenes, it had to be right in front of our kiss-denied heroine. Hehe. Mi-jin ends up interpreting Ji-woong’s blocking of the kiss as rejection, and Ji-woong’s power of articulation goes out of the window. Now she thinks he doesn’t like her that way, and he thinks… I don’t even know what he’s thinking at this point. But whatever it is, he needs to voice it out.
With the air of misunderstanding blowing around this drama’s universe, it’s no surprise that Myung-duk gets caught up in it as well. After spotting Won — on more than one occasion — acting overly friendly with Soon, Myung-duk becomes convinced that Won has a crush on Soon. And while he’s absolutely right, what makes this misunderstanding hilarious is that to the rest of the world, Soon is an ahjumma.
Myung-duk cannot get past the age difference, and watching him have a meltdown on witnessing the Soon × Won interactions reminds me of fangirls’ reactions to their idol’s dating “scandals.” Won might be the idol here, but Myung-duk is a Soon fan. And it’s sweet, albeit funny, that he’s worried that Won has mischievous intentions towards his hardworking colleague who “types really fast and likes pink.” Lol.
Myung-duk and Ji-woong run into Mi-jin and Ga-yeong at a restaurant, and over small talk, Myung-duk learns that Ga-yeong is a Won fan. To test Ga-yeong’s “all women like Won” claim, Myung-duk asks Mi-jin what she would do if Won asked her out, and Ji-woong is very offended by the hypothetical question. Pfft. All that jealousy and for what? He still doesn’t make a move even when Mi-jin implies that she won’t date Won because she’s got her eyes on someone else. *Cough* the man she attempted to kiss the other day *cough*
Moving on to our resident villain, Ji-woong learns from autopsy reports that fentanyl was found in Cheol-gyu’s wife’s blood. Same fentanyl found in the 20-year-old dismemberment case, and the current raincoat killer case. Speaking of the current case, a body surfaces in the local reservoir, and it turns out to be the AWOL intern — who’s missing a limb. The very same limb found at the crime scene of the raincoat murder.
Waitaminute, we saw the raincoat killer chase a woman that night. We saw him attack her with his axe. Then we saw a severed limb. Naturally, I assumed the limb belonged to the woman. But now you’re telling me it was AWOL intern’s all along? Whoa! This show really loves its misdirections.
Don’t even get me started on the show leading us to believe — via Ji-woong’s flashbacks — that the body the police took out of that apartment was his mom’s. Only for us to learn this week that his mom has been missing — probably since the time she was carted away while waiting for the detective to come get her witness statement.
Speaking of witnesses, although Ji-woong bought our heroine all those self-defense weapons to protect herself as a witness in the raincoat killer case, I’m not sure she realized how much danger she’s in until she discovers that Cheol-gyu and the raincoat killer drive the same car. And the knowledge that she has been in proximity with the suspected killer all this while is enough to terrify her and send her spiraling.
Ji-woong’s application for a search and seizure warrant for Hwadong Medical Center gets rejected, but he’s not one to let a little thing like paperwork get in the way of his investigation. Soon fakes a stomach cramp, and like the good colleagues they are, Ji-woong and Myung-duk bring her to Hwadong for treatment. The trio go their separate investigative ways once in the hospital, but Soon is flagged by one of the doctors and the information reaches Cheol-gyu.
Cheol-gyu instructs the doctor to hold Soon until his arrival, but Soon escapes the ward to complete her investigation, and she ends up in Cheol-gyu’s office. Now I’m slightly confused because I was operating under the assumption that Cheol-gyu had already retired from his director position. He did speak about his directorship in past tense. But apparently, he’s still the medical director — who takes time off hospital duties to mop floors as a senior citizen intern in the prosecution office. His dedication to monitoring our heroine up close needs to be studied.
For now, it would seem that Cheol-gyu is more interested in Soon than in Mi-jin. And his interest in Soon seems to be based on whatever history he had with the real Im Soon. He confirms from our Soon’s blood test that she’s O+, but in comparison with the results of an old test from 1998, the real Soon is A+. The discrepancy in blood type is one thing, but with Soon snooping around to find dirt on him, Cheol-gyu takes a few days off work at the prosecution office. “Has the time come for us now to put this to an end?” he asks himself while watching CCTV footage of Soon sneaking into his office, and I don’t even want to know what he wants to put to an end.
While Soon might not have found any useful evidence in Cheol-gyu’s office, at least she overhears the blood test conversation and now she’s aware that he might have some connection with her missing aunt. On the other hand, Ji-woong found some suspicious looking vials in the basement storage at Hwadong, and he sneaked one out. When the team eventually finds the location where the fentanyl distribution club stashed their drugs, they have the drugs tested and compared to the content of the vial, and it’s the same thing. Great! Now they can get a warrant for the medical center.
Back to our romance crumbs, the drama heightens Ji-woong’s jealousy to the point where he’s tempted to use the location tracker for personal reasons. He stops himself before he crosses the line and decides to call Mi-jin instead. But it’s Won who picks up the phone — because he’s out with Mi-jin looking for the mysterious cat — and petty Won is so happy to rub his friendship with Mi-jin in Ji-woong’s face. Tsk. One guy installs a secret tracker on her phone and the other picks up her calls — and doesn’t tell her about it until the following day. The things these men do behind Mi-jin’s back!
Won might be crossing our heroine’s boundaries a little more excessively than Ji-woong — especially since he knows about her secret. But his knowledge comes in handy when he shreds an anonymous letter that comes in for the deputy chief stating that there’s a senior intern who lied about their identity. When a second letter comes in, Won heads over to Mi-jin’s house. But rather than tell her about the letters, he asks her to quit. Out of the blue. “If you need it, I’ll pay your salary,” he says, and that’s just a terrible choice of words to say to a person who landed a job after several years. Or to anyone else, for that matter.
At this point, Mi-jin has had it with the men in her life. One is giving mixed signals and the other is bragging about his money. “Am I a charity case? Why are you doing this?” Mi-jin asks Won, and he replies that he doesn’t know. It’s his first time liking someone and he’s worried that something might happen to this someone. “I’ve never felt this way before,” Won says. “About who?” Mi-jin asks. “You,” Won replies. And there we have it, folks, a confession! To further thicken the plot, Ji-woong watches everything go down from a few paces away. But I won’t be surprised if this ends up being a misdirection and Ji-woong didn’t actually hear the confession.
It’s been a really long week with our OTP misinterpreting each other’s intentions and swimming in misunderstanding and miscommunication. So many miss-es, it’s almost like we’re in a beauty pageant. Mi-jin and Ji-woong are really in a slow burn. They’re slow, and we are the ones who’ll burn with impatience as we wait for them to get together. At this point, they both need to throw their phones into the reservoir and talk to each other face to face — no cutting into each other’s sentences and no jumping into conclusions when nothing has been concluded — and maybe Show can also throw the raincoat killer plot into the reservoir while at it.

Thank you for the 🌄 and 🌃 recap.
Most importantly the OTP ship sank before it salied. 🤦♀️
For a Prosecutor how is the ML this bad at communication. I get it that he's interested to know if Mi-jin would hypothetically date Ko Won, but my good man she has already answered you - and she actually said that. Can you not put two and two together. Or is your hand still in front of your mouth and you cannot see what is staring at you in the face.
Also the longer they are stretching the day and night reveal the tougher it is going to get. Especially when Ga-yeong and Won are both in the know. At this rate perhaps even Investigator Ju may get to know the secret before the ML. *smh dolefully*
I totally get the Beanies, who have never had SLS, feeling a bit pulled in that direction. The Gene Kelly-esque dance bouncing off the bench gave tough competition to the ML and his jump over the wall last week. 😅 The one and only reason we are still Team ML (forget fated childhood connection et all) is because it is *Choi Jin-hyuk* for crying out loud. 😂 Remember - him with the floating golden hearts - yeah that one. 😉 Picture that moment, breathe in that beauty and forget that a respectful and protective 2ML can ever be in consideration as anything but a friend of a FL of a K-drama.
The villain track is proceeding pretty much paint-by-numbers but is there is secret reveal or a hidden Big Bad. Let's see. Not that I care much.
Where is the supernatural cat and what about the missing women. Did Ji-woong's mother see Aunt Sun getting kidnapped. Is Ji-woong's father the Hospital Director or another Big Bad.
Neither the OTP is selling it right now nor the villainous track. Miss Day makes my drama day as does her chingu Ga-yeong. I'm missing Mi-jin's parents who always make the scenes they are in sparkle. I love how protective Investigator Ju is of uri Miss Day. He's her biggest cheerleader.
So glad the climb up the hill wiped out Prosecutor-nim and gave him a reality check. Hat's off to the Beanie who had predicted this fall.
I confess to being the most irritated by the so-called "supernatural" element in the drama which come and go as per plot convenience. For now the plot if finding it to be very inconvenient to explain:
- Is there is any mystical / supernatural element in the disappearance of the missing women or not.
- Did the missing women also transfigure or transmigrate into cats or some other person / creature after falling into the wishing well and more importantly can they come back!?
- Also exactly how many people fell down that well and why is it such a popular haunt.
- Will Miss Day need to fall back into the wishing well to become Mi-jin both in Day and Night. I'd prefer for the ML to fall down the well so that we can get a nice Ajhusshi for our Miss Day. 😂
- Are there ghosts in the ML's apartment.
- How did Investigator Ju sleep the whole night on the sofa with his head hanging down...

… contd/-
- How did Investigator Ju sleep the whole night on the sofa with his head hanging down and not wake up with a sprained neck.
Granted the last one is not supernatural but it well may be. 😊
I did like this week's episodes. I really liked how Mi-jin snapped back at Prosecutor-nim for his needless questioning without being answerable himself. Also serves him right to stew for a week and reflect upon himself as to *why* the brolly tilting 2ML is not a
perfectbetter choice for both Mi-jin and Aunt Sun.Required fields are marked *

Re: supernatural element and string of serial murders/missing women
1. I think the supernatural element only exclusively applies to Mi-Jin /Lim Soon /aunt's cat. I give it narrative weight not just because of their blood relation, but also because of various hints & breadcrumbs (a) in an earlier convo with ML, Mi-Jin admits she probably likes her aunt even more than she likes her own mom (b) her aunt telling Mi-Jin that cats always remember the ones they love and the ones who love them. (c) They were both physically affectionate to the cat in that flashback scene
2) Re: missing women. They are not missing; they are probably all dead. Which leads to Pt 3
3) Hence the obsession of Medical Director-Intern with Lim Soon and the insistence on blood testing her. He wants to ascertain if THIS is THAT. Cos in his mind, Lim Soon is already dead (not missing). If the latter, there is no need to ascertain her identity in such a manner
4) The rest of the missing women are not coming back. If they get vomited out from some dark portal, I would get a tonal whiplash. Genre memo: Romcom has just left the building. We're in Stranger Things/Twilight Zone territory now.
Burning questions I would like see resolve (in remaining 6 eps):
1) How will they resolve her Night/Day curse?
2) And at what cost?
3) Is this sudden physical fatigue and toll one of the hidden costs?
4) Is there another wild card besides the cat?

Great Summary.
I totally agree- raincoat intern killer knows the blood types of the people he killed. Lim Soon has got him confused.
Yes, I agree with your burning questions 1&3- which is why I was having flights of fancy further down about how the resolution would play out. I hope they do something clever, and don't just paper over it 'its all gone now and nobody is asking inconvenient questions about why a dead woman was an intern'
As to question 4, I think the cat is the only wild card- but Lim Soon being a ghost could be an explanation they could run with, once the curse is resolved-Can you imagine how Myung-Duk would react if he was told that?

I don't think we have seen any haunting since the first night. I'm ok with that- apart from not liking horror, I think it works in the story as well.
The person living in the apartment is actively looking for her killer, and has a vision/planning board that scary in its detail. It would frighten off (or calm) any ghost

That's a way to look at it. 🤭👌 There were some light flickerings sometime later as well but I didn't pay note as to what prompted those. But yes a vision board "fightening or calming" the ghost seems legit. 🫰

1. Ah! I thought it was hinted last week but clarified now that the ML's mom may be alive. I always thought that the women were supposed to be missing, while expectedly someday be dead but I was hoping that some may be magically alive courtesy the wishing well.
Thank you for pointing out Aunt Sun and Mi-jin's interactions with the cat. Her comment of being closer to her Aunt was also telling.
2. 🙈🤞 Hope not all but let's see.
3. Why do I feel he's not the Big Bad (like im Big Mouth) but just the medical minion responsible for "experiments" including amputation.
4. Rom-com - sigh - even breadcrumbs are not left of either.
Burning Questions
#1 By making a wish at the well, same as before. Just that now she'll just wish to be only herself.
#2 Hopefully younger and more energetic.
#3 I think the longer the curse continues, Mi-jin's time will continue to get shortened and Sun and her age will catch up.
#4 I have a strong distrust of personified cats after Heartbeat but to answer your question obvious answer seems yes but if you think about it the well seems quite the culprit for swallowing young women and spitting out another person / thing(!?) of their choice.

The supernatural / serial murders plot lines is way more intriguing than the love triangle waffle now. Like I said, I came for the romcom and stayed for the serial murders!
Let's see what you peeps have thrown up:
1. Ghost, ghoulies and things that go bump in the night: I get how the script may go this way cos of the narrative breadcrumbs earlier.
But I would be frankly disappointed -- reasons: (1) maybe not tonal whiplash, but definitely a neck strain. (2) I don't really like deus ex machina; cos it hints at lazy writing.
Acceptable logical plot devices utilising the ghost rumours would be:
(a) Ji-Ung does some sleuthing and grills Ga-young's dad (our landlord) who gives him a crucial plot clue as to what really happened back then
(b) Ji-Ung digs around the house or accidentally peels off wallpaper and finds a corpse walled in (or plot equivalent).
2. Well as 2nd possible wild card: good point, I sort of forgot the well cos of casual watching. and frankly it reminds me too much of Sadako being thrown into a well to drown (The Ring).
3. Organ harvesting: I have considered that before. As organ harvesting has a definite expiration date; you simply exhaust your human hosts and discard them. That would mean all the women are well and truly dead (also I take into account the fact that the serial missing women case has been open for 20+ years).
4. Director as Minion with a Big Bad behind him: I am in 2 minds about this. Yes, cos it seems really likely given how organised and long-running this killing / drug experiment gig has gone on. No, cos then it will have to be someone fairly innocuous we have already seen appear in the first 10 episodes thus far. (c.f. Pinocchio -- the Big Bad is revealed to be Kim Hae-sook, who's always there in the background as a smiley supportive mum UNTIL...)
5. The only other possible variable that will change the outcome (missing not dead) is: they are not harvesting organs.
They are harvesting something replenishable, and actually require the human hosts to be well and alive (i.e. adrenochrome or stem cells / bone marrow etc) -- then, the women are missing, not dead
empressgirl
July 17, 2024 at 9:24 PM
CONT'D:
6. @seeker: Oh I didn't know Ji-Ung's mom might be alive. I thought they last showed her ominously missing at the phone booth (I sort of presume she is also dead - again, given how long ago the crime has been committed)
8. More than 1 drug: again, I missed that (the evils of casual watching LOL)
If another new unidentified drug surfaces now (Ep 10), whereas we have only been seeing fentanyl traces all these years in the body parts of victims -- then I wonder if the fentanyl has always been used as a MacGuffin to throw the investigations off, and to mask the real purpose / experiments of their drug labs?
9. Drug's effects: turn people old / turn people to cats -- unlikely. That would be a very useless superpower 🤣🤣🤣 if they become super soldiers, X-men variety etc that would make more sense. Unless you mean, these humans are the *failed* results of drug experiments?
10. With your dystopic cat theory, it feels like we are veering into the dark horror terrain not unlike that of Junji Ito's Cat Diary...(or for that matter, all his works)
empressgirl
July 17, 2024 at 9:53 PM
11. The dismemberment of victims whilst they are still alive: I find this noteworthy, and wonder what the implications may be. Given that fentanyl is a very powerful analgesic, well....
empressgirl
July 17, 2024 at 10:20 PM
12. Random after-thought: remember in the early acid attack on Ko Won?
Ji-Ung belatedly figured out that the assailant-drug abuser-troll was actually not targeting Won, he was instigated by Medical Director to throw the acid at someone else.
BUT the plot point was left hanging, we never got told WHO. So who is the real target?
13. The whistle-blowing mystery notes to Chief Prosecutor's Office: "One of your senior interns lied about their identity."
-- as I was casually watching, I just went along with Won's reaction and assumed it had to mean Lim Soon.
---BUT it suddenly struck me (when I bothered to use my ROM): it can mean either Lim Soon OR Medical Director.
-- They both came in under a false pretext / pretense. The retired police officer has always found the Director suspicious (he might be the whistleblower too)
Neolttwigi
July 17, 2024 at 11:09 PM
If the Medical Director lied about his identity, it is in the far, far past. Everyone at the moment knows he is the Medical Director, and there are pics all around the hospital to prove it He has undoubtedly pulled strings to get the job as well.
If the letters referred to Lim Soon, it would have to be the medical director writing them, because he is the only one who knows the real Lim Soon is dead. And the medical director has enough clout to tell the Senior Manager straight up himself, so he would not be writing anonymous letters. (He could just say he was suspicious, no need to give himself away by saying the real one is dead)
We have seen the back story on the detective, so his identity is real
That only leaves the society lady, who I always thought was suspicious. Where was the society lady when the acid attack happened? Who else was around?
Will have to rewatch and check!

It is definitely not just some psycho indulging in a spot of random serial killings. The ladies who are alone and would not be missed are being targeted and their bank accounts emptied, leading to a (misleading) conclusion that they may have just upped and left to start a new life, perhaps with a different identity.
The police and prosecution too seems to be involved. Organ harvesting or illegal drug testing seems likely.
empressgirl
July 18, 2024 at 12:49 AM
Hmmm....the society lady.
OMG it will seriously be a curve-ball if she is the Big Bad! But yes, she does look sus
I think tis time to start one of my favourite cheap thrills on DB -- an illegal betting pool for plot predictions 🤣
empressgirl
July 18, 2024 at 1:01 AM
@seeker: actually I though the opposite.
It's precisely because they are not "people who would not be missed" that I didn't think it would be an organ harvesting / trafficking syndicate.
1. Look at the devastating aftermath wrecked upon the surviving families of Lim Soon & Ji-Ung's mum (flashbacks of Mi-Jin's parents giving out missing persons flyers on the street; Ji-Ung pestering the police offices daily etc). They didn't give up the search for years
2. If we reference a crime franchise like Voice, the psycho killer who needs to kill on a regular basis tend to predate on (i) illegal immigrants; (ii) the homeless; (iii) orphans (iv) similar categories of vulnerable groups without families cos they don't tend to get reported and no one cares
3. So you raised a very good point -- the villains/syndicate actually took pains to clean out the bank accounts to make it look like the missing persons left of their own accord (and is not an abduction, kidnapping, or murder)
4. Which raised the next question: why go through all these trouble? Why not just kidnap the homeless or orphans?
5. Two key traits of those missing: (a) They are all women. (b) They are all found within a very circumscribed radius of Dae-ho (c.f. Ji-Ung glancing at the road-signs when he was frantically searching for Mi-Jin that night)
It's the damned Bermuda Triangle or crop circle plot equivalent of murders!!! 👽☠💀 OR they need women living within that zone for the experiments

@Joanna
1. When given a choice I think drama writers would rather go with the more popular and easier route of, no explanation required, deus ex machina style resolution - just because.
Also because logical plot development and denouement require not only appropriately embedded hints and breadcrumbs but a well thought out narrative. Which I think we can all agree doesn't seem to be the path we are on till now.
Frankly when the drama revealed that Ji-ung may be living in the apartment where someone was murdered I did think of a walled-in corpse. The first time Ga-yeong's father mentioned it. Then Investigator Ju came to know it was the Hospital Director's wife but her alleged lover was not found. So I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a ghost in the apartment. 😊
2. The Ring parallel seems pretty apt. Let's see how it plays out as it's not on course as yet.
3. Organ harvesting coupled with illegal drug trials coupled with the supernatural cat. Hmm, perhaps after sometime the women simply became a cat. 🙀 It is just a cold case I'm not sure if there was any active investigation for 20 years. Also something seems to have changed after Aunt Sun and ML's mom disappearance as there was a 20 year hiatus.
4. Even if he's not a minion, the Hospital Director surely has some people working with him and then something's gotta give.
5. While I cannot comment on what are the medical experiments being done it is clear that these are not just serial killer victims. It is too meticulously planned - with added involvement of the police and prosecution most probably - to not have some kind of medical research going on.

6. I too thought she was dead given the numerous traumatic flashbacks to a body being carried out of a building and the kid Ji-ung crying for his mom. As noted by uri Unit in the recap the face of the lady is revealed to be someone elae and we are now given to believe that the mother may only have been missing all along. We had also been given flashbacks of the kid camping in the police station urging them to search for his mom but assumed that the body in the stretcher was her but the show didn't clarify that till now.
7. 😊👍
8. Frankly as a quick Google search can reveal Fentanyl is primarily used for pain management. So I automatically assumed some kind of experiments were being carried out on the missing women rather than them being outright murdered.
No worries about casual watching. That is why the recaps and comments are so enlightening. ❤😊👌
9. No I don't think the drugs / medical experiments are to turn people into cats although to me it would be a happier outcome. 🤣🤣🤣 I just meant that the wishing well grants desperate wishes of people to want to "run away" from their lives or turn into someone else.
10. I don't think we're headed to dark horror although a heads up would have been nice. Just hope like the "surprise" serial killer in the premiere of a supposedly rom-com drama we don't get a "surprise" horror.

Our Prosecutor is certainly out of his depth and deeply frustrating in his lack of any clear words. I can certainly see a person who has been so consumed by his past and his work that he really doesn't know how to navigate this. I am giving him a momentary pass by imagining that the reason he is not clear is not because he doesn't understand Mi-jin but because he doesn't know how he himself wants to proceed and thus doesn't want to say anything until then. But my pass will quickly be revoked and Mi-jin is so right on to ask for the same openness from from him that he is requesting from her. She nailed it when she said he was now interrogating her. He's gonna have to change that.
That said Won is also really really getting on my nerves. He just seems incredibly immature and the weird flirting during lunch time was bugging Mi-jin and also bugging me. Dude, stop acting like a preschooler, poking the girl when she is clearly annoyed. And he doesn't tell her about the letters which would be really good info to have and just goes into "I know best and will protect you" mode. Eeew.
I love Mi-jin's boundaries with both these guys as she calls them out on how they treat her and I was so proud of her this week. Even though she was freaking out as she realised how close she is to a probably murderer she didn't go harring off on some stupid solo mission. She went with her work team and worked well with them. And her climb up the cliff and letting Ji-woong deal with his own stuff had me cheering.

I’m so glad to read your thoughts about Won! Everyone seems so taken with him and I’m so confused by it! YES he should have mentioned the letters and YES he should not be behaving that way at work and YES the switch from immature to overbearingly protective was not flattering. I love Mi-jin standing up for herself too, and I hope everyone can be clearer next week.

So, as you all might have heard me say (write?), I never get SLS. I am coming awfully close here. I don't know what the writer is thinking. Not only does the 2ML know her secret whereas the ML doesn't, and not only was the 2ML far more accepting and sweet towards her older self, the ML is being all passive and standoffish for reasons that don't quite make sense to me (granted, I don't give this 100% of my attention lately). Passivity is the trademark of the 2ML, not the ML! I also feel like the ML is the one who should know the secret, if nothing else--and that's how previews made it sound. I feel like they're putting the 2ML in the ML position and giving him all the ML perks, but obviously he's still the 2ML so it's just making me frustrated. I'm starting to reach the point where I'm forgetting why she likes the ML in the first place.
I also hate, hate, hate when the tension is prolonged because the person simply won't let the other person speak and clear the air. And this drama has been doing that A LOT lately.

Word. You're reading like my own official press statement.
1. Ladies and gentlemen, and THIS is how you do SLS
2. Alas, when the brolly was tilted, it has also changed the playing field and score-line. (Ji-Ung VS Won: 0:1)
3. Actually, no. Won had me at (not hello but....) "menopause supplements." (seriously, even as a young woman, I am swooned)
If this were a soccer match commentary, our ML has lost the ball possession and the control of the field. No wait, he even blew his chances at the penalty kick! (she has already kissed you, did you not get the memo?)
4. Don't get me wrong. I like Choi Jin-hyuk and was really chuffed to see him in a new drama ("Numbers" doesn't count, cos I gave up at Ep 9 and sobbed in shame for I no longer understood the accounting fraud and maths)
BUT this ML is not written as someone you would want your FL to have as a lover or life partner. He should just remain a good colleague and prosecutor.

Caveat: I am about to come across as a brazen advocate of Won now so...if it's not up your alley, you can vault over the wall with our prosecutor and be on your merry way 😂
I mean, he bought her glucosamine, lutein, AND menopausal supplements. Like, how sweet and endearing is that?? This is not romance, this is love.
(I also note the contrast to the first time he lavished her with gifts for saving him from acid attack. It's age-appropriate, yet not ageist)
I find it particularly moving because this relational dynamics and layer does something we don't see as often in romcom (or even real life).
The premise creates a fairytale-like curse of being "a Beast by day, a Beauty by night" (it's a crudely inadequate analogy but just bear with it for a bit...) and that inadvertently becomes the litmus test of true love, isn't it?
Ko Won loves her through all seasons of her life, her brilliant summer and her mellow autumn, her collagen and her crow's feet, her sprightly vitality and her ageing pains -- all these whilst encountering the "Beast" first.
ML has his fair shot tbh -- has he stepped up to the plate? I think he is friendly and respectful to our Lim Soon I grant you that, but is that enough for viewers to ship them together? I think not.

On the one hand ML really has to develop more than crush at his age before hearing that his elderly assistant who peeved him is 1. Mijin 2. One of the key missing women he is investigating and sister of the mother he likes whose missing poster he saw as a child. I remember there is a scene in the previews where the parents see Sun again and ML is calling out to her as samonim while she is hiding her face. Will the three find out ML's assistant is the aunt before anyone finds out Mijin can transform? Will more misunderstandings ensue?

Episode 10 was awful writing. It basically wiped out the characters drawn by the actors for their role. Why is Mijin suddenly blocking Jiung's phone calls when he has already told he would call? Why is Lim Sun not telling anyone about the blood drawing and tests done by villain Director on her and her aunt? And why is the 2SML suddenly crossing all boundaries, acting bratty and blathering that he is missing his pills because of Mijin? Why is bestie ruining Mijin's image by telling she kisses anyone when drunk? The redeeming person was Investigator Ju whether at the 4some restaurant meal or the shocked acting in the cafeteria at idol-boy's behaviour. After Ep 9 which was joy to watch this was such a disappoitment.

If she were to talk about the blood test, she would also have to answer questions about her identity and she wants to avoid that. So she remains silent. Of course she could tell her friend, but that wouldn't change anything anyway.
I don't know what the best friend originally wanted to say, but she only made up the story because she realised that ML could hear her conversation with FL on the phone, so he assumes that FL is currently dating another man. She wants to protect FL with the invented story.
SML's inappropriate actions didn't surprise me after the previous two episodes, he had already crossed various boundaries.

Missing FL's dad (my witty ajusshi crush from Ugly Duckling) The SML is so good that he makes you forget there's a ML sometimes lol. It's like they're both ML's. I like how dangerously close he's getting to stealing our hearts but then a close up shot of ML's sad eyes and hear that deep voice, then you remember, oh, he's the ML afterall. hehe. What I like about this drama is the mix of deeply serious and tragic and utterly ridiculous and funny. It's very much like life these past few years. One of my favorite paintings is an abstract of a black square enveloped in a border of red by Rothko. The red symbolizes joy to me, containing an interior of grief and loss. Dramas like these feel like that painting.

I guessed there would be some misunderstanding after the end of episode 8, but I really didn't expect a PTSD-induced non-kiss (but who can blame him - kicks, headbutts and flying beer cans can indeed lead to trauma). Everything that followed was not good for my recovery. I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack.
Ju Byung-duk was the star of these two episodes. The poor guy has been through so much, I hope he finally gets his Pho.
I had hoped for fewer misunderstandings and more developments in episode 10, but a jealous Gyu Ji-ung is also very entertaining. And he earned more brownie points for not using the app to find out where Lee Min-jin is.
On the other hand, I've never been as far away from developing SML syndrome as I am here. Ko Won is too overbearing. His behaviour is totally inappropriate, he is acting like a pubescent teenager and ignoring Min-jin's wishes.

Am I the only one not in love with Won right now? Sure, he’s cute, and often sweet, and I liked his dance, but I was over here hoping he would be an ally for her at work, and he seems to be doing everything he can to make people suspicious. He’s also shredding up anonymous letters that might be about her or might be about our creepy killer, which seems unhelpful. If they are about Soon/Mi-jin, he should warn her (and lay off all the skinship), but if they are about Mr. Dismemberment, she could use that info too. And apparently confessing you like someone is easier than telling them you’re worried about them and asking them to quit their job.
Ji-ung does need to get it together (well played on the kiss fakeout, Show, you absolutely had me), but he knows that and he’s trying. His timing is just completely awful. I’m glad he didn’t track her when he had the chance for his own reasons. Now if he can just unstick his mouth and make sure to use subjects and direct objects in all his sentences, we’ll get there. I’m still solidly Team Ji-ung.

Hahaha thanks! It doesn't help him that Korean is such a contextual language so you often don't need subjects and direct objects when you say something quickly! I always love when a character is confessing their love and they say "좋아해요", which is pretty much just a verb, but then in the ensuing *shocked* pause they go back and clarify to make sure the person understood. This week's episodes really took off and up the ante (to my pleasant surprise). Up to this point, it has been a mildly amusing but average series for me (despite the fantastic premise, I was never sold on the OTP - individually and together nor emotionally vested in them).
BUT this week, the writers managed to corral all the meandering and loose plot threads into one hot mess waiting to explode. The plot symmetries and mirroring are frankly delightful to behold.
We have:
1. ML latching on to Miss Night- Won suspicious pairing
2. Ju latching on to Miss Day -Won suspicious pairing
3. Neither ML nor Ju sharing their info with each other (so both have exclusive intel, yet are in the dark regarding the other persona's dealings with Won) Had the two men compared notes, they might have reached the completely erroneous (but hilarious) conclusion that Won is a two-timing player! 🤣🤣
4. In the meanwhile, Won is like the proverbial cat that got the cream (since he has full info leverage) and for the first time in series, enjoy time-alone with BOTH Miss Day and Miss Night (across time).
I thought it is notable Won is shown (*twice*) in scenes where he personally witnesses her transitioning from Night to Day (when he did a stakeout outside her house), and the 2nd time from Day to Night (in his car when they went cat-hunting) This last part is significant cos...
5 ML doesn't. ML is almost level with 2ML in terms of screen-time/alone time with FL. BUT his knowledge of her is strictly siloed into Night / Day, never the twain shalt meet. And here is why our hapless ML suffers a distinct narrative (and romantic) disadvantage
6. So in summary: Won is in the LIGHT about our Miss Night/Day, but ML is in the DARK about her (having not yet sussed out the transformer curse)

P.S. and this is a snarky gripe:
Show, don't try to sell me the "destined childhood connection" trope. I may be a neophyte-nothing-Goblin's underpants here on DB, but out there in the real-world, I have been watching k-drama for 24 years since I was a child. I am a veritable demi-god in tropes.
In this particular story, it doesn't cut ice. At All.
If two children sitting within a 5-metre radius of each other in the same sepia-toned flashback scene is a childhood connection, then I am childhood soulmates with everyone sitting within a 50-metre radius from me whenever I watch a match in the National Stadium.

And can Mum & Dad help in getting the ML-FL together? Mom was especially great and Dad has already claimed FL is dating Mr.Prosecutor. Really if only Jiung had walked into the house rather than waiting for FL at her doorstep he could have sorted the misunderstanding that bestie created.

I agree with the childhood connection thing. But, he did save her a few times, kept all her secrets, bought her a bunch of stun guns, bandaged her wounds, let her into his house overnight and let her destroy his house twice. Maybe he promises to find her aunt when they were kids, as unlikely as this sounds?

Right, ML has done a lot of sweet things for her... but that feels like ages ago now. The writers need to make me root for him again and it's just not happening. I don't even really know how he feels about her. He seems to like her, but then why is he being so passive?
And if I'm confused as a viewer, who has the most access to the ML's emotional state outside of the ML himself, then just imagine how Mi-jin feels!

Re: "I don't even really know how he feels about her."
THIS.
1) This is the burning million-won question. Millions of perplexed viewers like me don't either.
2) AND, I also don't understand what he likes about her. It's all terribly opaque to me.
Genre Gripe:
Show, this is a murder mystery, not a love mystery.
As a viewer, I shouldn't have to be so befuddled or uncertain about the emotional terrain and loyalties of our leads. By your mixed signals, we too become uncertain of where to align or invest our loyalties (and THIS is how cheating and SLS are birthed... 😆

@vienbenimo @joanna My interpretation is more along the lines of Mi Ho's interpretation. I know they like each other. But, they are two awkward people who can't express themselves. The jealous outburst at spicy pork sealed it. But, Mi Jin can't figure it out, which means she isn't ready yet. So, better not force anything and tell Ji Woong that she is a puppy when she is drunk. Because in kdrama land, logically cat --> puppy. If she knew someone else was involved and it was a kpop idol, she probably would have played it differently.

I can't help but feel that despite all of that he has a deeper connection to her mom. Perhaps this should have been a revolutionary KDrama where Lim Sun(54f) and SML(27m) romance and a Prosecutor gets himself adopted as a son by the parents of the girl who had a crush on him.

+1!
I would applaud any KD with the courage to go down that narrative path
A Beanie said something hilarious (but very astute as well) that MND is secretly an old-people fantasy: and Ji-Ung covets the parents of Mi-Jin, while Won pines for the maternal love of an older non-exploitative woman

Woo hoo!! out there in the real-world, I have been watching k-drama for 24 years since I was a child. I am a veritable demi-god in tropes. 👏 👏👏
I love the way you express yourself but this is just 👌🙏😍

The FL is not really smart... She knows that the villain is after her but she does nothing about it. She just searched for the cat. She behaves like a teenager with the ML.
I like Won because he acts with her the same, he doesn't care about her appearance. It's pretty surprising for an idol.

He said I like you to Miss Day forst before even knowing about her transformation while bringing her coffee and all our ageist and age gap squicked souls took it as platonic while it was very romance coded from the start.

yes I agree that is part of the SML's charm, that he is fascinated not repelled by the duality of this ajumma-girl. and it's so sweet how sweet and caring he is to the day ajumma, even before he found out she's actually a young woman. his character is very refreshing and unusual, for any young man, especially such a good looking superstar. He's kind of the opposite of the prince in Beauty and the Beast.

Am I the only one that keeps getting the feeling 2ML is like Min-hyuk and our poor ML is like Guk-doo the way he missed every opportunity it will be too late? Also he confessed to liking her mom and dad rather than her and her own reaction after the mistimed kiss since she assumed the were both in a romantic mood isn't looking good for this pairing.

What do we all think was the unknown drug that Ji Woong took from the hospital? Do you think it was a drug that turned people into cats? Do you think it was the drug that turned Mi Jin old? It seems clear that the doctor was experimenting on people in the basement. Do you think the missing women were experimented on in the basement?
My guess is that they were experimented on and are probably dead. Some of the drugs ended up in the abandoned well and that is how Mi Jin became old. I really hope for the cat theory tho. Cats/People. A new era of kdrama.

Re: "and that is how Mi Jin became old"
But here's the rub:
Mi Jin didn't age, else we would be getting the actor Jung Eun-ji with latex masks / ageing makeup. Instead, we get the 54yo actor Lee Jung-Eun who is a real person with an ID (her very own missing aunt).
This part is clearly a supernatural / fantasy genre trope and may not intersect / mash as well with a medical / sci-fi genre trope like medical experiments.
p.s. the dystopic cat people thingy: reminds me of Junji Ito's brand of horror

But, early on, they mentioned how she looked like her aunt when she was young. Also, the blood type didn't change. So, you could be right. But, also maybe she temporarily becomes old. 🤷🏻

Her blood type changed. Hence the confirmation that they were two different persons. Hence Medical Director was totally thrown off when comparing Lim Soon's blood tests results

I had a random thought but seeing the female intern's temper and Ji-ung's mother's similar temper what if it is his mother who changed her identity and face after running away and wiping her past clean with a new marriage? And maybe she knew more or was an accomplice. I find the boastful intern suspicious because he is not suspicious at all and his failed business can be related to the case. The police intern should be the sort to talk directly to prosecutors about his observations and I'm surprised they put him as a cleaning intern instead of using him to help the investigators and paperwork. I wonder if he has a past.

Straw Poll / Betting Pool for Plot Prediction
QN: Who is the killer / Big Bad / mastermind?
Give us your best shot / conspiracy theory, bar none!
* Multiple answers in combination are valid
(i) Medical Director-Intern
(ii) Senior Intern - Society lady
(iii) Dementia- stricken OG detective handling case (he faked his dementia)
(iv) Some form of police-prosecution collusion (why was his mother's case sheet specifically torn off, not the rest?)
========================
Any other far-out theories (include HERE)
1. drug cartel as cover / funding for medical experiments
2. well is magical Russian roulette recycling bin - spits out dead persons for 2nd shot at life
3. Medical Director is *ALSO* a Night/Day transformed person (hence he recognised his own)
4. To be cont'd

OK, I am voting for either (1) Medical Director or (v) Suprisingly-little-information Fifth Intern! I'm not sure which of the two, if either, is the actual Boss.
Looking back at episode2, Specifically the cigarette-in-garden incident, we have five people
A Seo Mal Tae-detective
B Na Ok Hui-Bystander (Society Lady, Nepotism Hire)
C Ko Na Heum-Victim (Soldier)
D Lim Sun (Our Heroine)
E Geum Guad Sok-Suspect (oldest intern, referral hire)
B Geum Guan-Sok-suspect. Listed as 'referral hire'
So the victim in the cigarette incident turns out to be our actual victim later. Which increases the chance of our suspect in the cigarette incident being related to our case as well. Also, we are given Very Little information about Geum- what was his previous employment? And who was he referred by that got him this job? Was he actually referred by the Medical Director?
Following on to the acid attack- We have already been told that Won is Not the intended target. The people on the verandah are Won, Won's manager, Lim Sun, and a couple of nameless guards. So that would make it seem either Won or our Heroine are the target. BUT!! We see the attacker charging up the steps towards the doors- and Geum, our mystery intern, is right behind the glass doors. Lim Sun charges past and bumps him as she is on her way out with the mop.
But if Geum is the intended victim of the acid attack, who is attacking him? If it is the Medical Director orchestrating the attack, why doesnt the medical director do something nefarious now that he is also an intern?

Re: acid attack real target
I think @Cera answered it in earlier thread above, JI-Ung figured out the target is Miss Day
(if true, tis interesting timing cos it happened before soldier MIA and Medical director intern joined them)
Ep 11 has a prescient line uttered by one of the senior interns when they are speculating: "Often the one you least expect is the real culprit."
(there are 3 seniors in that scene; Medical Director has been absent for days)

I don't remember Ji-ung figuring out it was Miss Day. He was unsure of the target, because Miss Day was the person there apart from Won. But if our attacker was looking past Won to the glass doors, our mystery 'oldest' intern was there
