Kim Myung-min is owed justice from Your Honor Sohn Hyun-joo

The first posters and teaser are out for ENA’s upcoming crime-thriller Your Honor, quickly setting up our story’s conflicting dilemma that pits the honorable judge Sohn Hyun-joo (Captivating the King) against indomitable mob boss Kim Myung-min (Law School).

It all begins on one ordinary day when in one moment’s mistake, Kim Do-hoon (7 Escape – Resurrection) accidentally kills Heo Nam-joon (The Impossible Heir) – the former’s car colliding with the latter’s motorcycle. The teaser begins in the immediate aftermath, so it’s unclear at this stage how it happened exactly. Song Ho-young (Kim Do-hoon) is shell-shocked, though, as he stumbles towards the body of Kim Sang-hyuk (Heo Nam-joon) and he barely manages to find the words, eking out, “An accident happened.”

This then brings us to our fellow father leads and the appearing captions mirror their reverse positions, devastated by the news that “my son killed,” versus “my son has been killed.” The principled judge Song Pan-ho (Sohn Hyun-joo) feels morally torn as well, wanting to uphold the law while also desiring to cover up the case in order to protect his good-hearted Ho-young.

Adding more hues to our story’s gray-scale, the cutthroat mobster Kim Kang-heon (Kim Myung-min) is not about to let his son’s murderer get away and it doesn’t matter if the law is or isn’t on his side. As his underlings breakout mayhem in the streets, the fiercely steely-eyed Kang-heon resolves to personally find the culprit who killed Sang-hyuk. However, Pan-ho isn’t as meek as he may look and the teaser closes on our opposing pair facing-off.

As an adaptation of the Israeli TV series Kvodo (which also has an American remake), production for the Korean version has PD Pyo Min-soo (Moon in the Day, The Producers) taking on the creator role, with directing helmed by PD Yoo Jong-sun (Paper Moon, Secret Royal Inspector and Joy) and scripts by Kim Jae-hwan (Boyhood). Premiering this summer on August 12, ENA’s Your Honor will be airing in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

I don’t yet know if I will watch this or not, but I’m delighted to see Heo Nam-joon getting steady work these days! Makes me want to rewatch all his scenes in The Matchmakers…

This kinda reminds me of A Beautiful World with the same running theme of truth-hiding parent vs truth-seeking parent with regards to their kids, though that show featured the moms alongside the dads with the kids in school, while this show seems to be only dad vs dad with grown-up kids.

Interestingly, the protagonists are the murderers instead of the victims, but we'll have to see if the antagonists eventually go overboard and overturn this setup.

I'll be watching but won't be surprised if the story goes makjang halfway through.

Kim Myung-min and Sohn Hyun-joo going head-to-head. I'm imagining one intense scene after another. Will definitely check this one out.

Premise is very intriguing. Hope the script is tight because we know that these actors can deliver - in spades. 😂
