[Cast Away] A conwoman is possessed by an upright politician

Don’t you just hate it when you’re short a few million dollars to produce a drama with your dream team of actors, writers, and directors? *pouts* Well, we found a way to scratch that itch!

In the Dramabeans community series Cast Away, Beanies can advocate for their chosen actors and creatives in imaginary roles.

How it works: We share a [very] hypothetical K-drama plot with you, and in the comments, you discuss who you think is the perfect cast to play the roles in this imaginary show.

This week’s K-drama plot: body possession, wacky revenge, and romance

A conwoman posing as a shaman is possessed by the spirit of an upstanding assemblyman. Unable to leave her body, the two decide to cooperate in taking down crooks to help his soul move on.

Their only ally is his political aide who shares the same goal, but he keeps clashing with the conwoman on the legal versus effective ways to achieve justice.

As their clean-up plan progresses, the aide starts getting confused between his feelings of respect for his old mentor and a strange admiration for his new, crazy partner in justice.

I got this idea from watching The Whirlwind and One the Woman at the same time, so y’all know who my vote for the conwoman is. But are there other actresses you want to see in the dual role of Respectable Old Man and Cunning Force of Chaos?

What about the aide who will start out hating the collaboration and end up having starry eyes for the conwoman? His deceased mentor will have some scenes too, so it’d be nice to see the two actors have an almost father-son dynamic.

Feel free to switch genders around or remove the romance if you think it’s unnecessary.

If you have a plotline idea for future Cast Away posts, leave it in the comments. We’ll do our best to serve a fun twist on it.

LEE YU RI takes over her mother KIM HAE SOOK’s shaman “business.” She applies questionable marketing principles in order to increase her “cash flow” because of her extravagant life style.

GO JUN is a shy, conservative man who works for assemblyman KIM GYU CHUL, whose blue collar upbringing gave him empathy for the working class that propelled him into political stardom by fighting political corruption. GO JUN’s sister, GO JOON HEE, thinks her brother needs to get on the political corruption gravy train in order to get the family moving up in wealth and social status so she can marry a chaebol.

When his party’s leader asks KIM GYU CHUL to run for President, he is conflicted and anxious. He goes to see an old friend, KIM HAE SOOK for advice, but she has given up fortune telling. He wanders next door to be forcibly dragged inside by LEE who is having a slow day “milking” her customers. LEE performs a wild, disco ball lit, mystic ritual without even asking what troubled KIM. When he stutters to tell her his problem, LEE breaks the one rule her mother told her “never touch your customer” by grabbing his wrists. KIM’s eyes bulge and he has a heart attack and dies. GO JOON HEE witnesses this event as she walked into the shaman’s den seeking the best way to mingle with the super wealthy. When LEE recognizes GO and calls her by her proper name, both women are shocked: how does this shaman know my name? They soon realize that the spirit of the assemblyman is now in the shaman’s body. GO quickly seizes the opportunity to have LEE use KIM’s knowledge and connections to make them both rich.

LEE quickly writes up a letter stating that she is KIM’s political protege and trusted advisor. And if anything happened to him, LEE would be his successor. GO inks KIM’s dead thumb to seal the deal. They secretly move the body back to KIM’s office where they prop him in his chair in an unlit office. LEE puts her name in his contact index card file, and her picture on his desk.

GO JUN finds his boss the next morning. Paramedics quickly conclude he died of a heart attack. GO JUN heads the funeral but chaos happens when LEE shows up dressed like a high priced Gangnam hostess. She moves around the rooms whispering and charming all the politicians and businessmen who are stunned by her knowledge of their secrets. When GO JUN pushes her outside and demands to know who she is, she gives him the letter of introduction, complete with KIM’s blood seal and signature (which she lifted off her shaman guest book). The party leader comes by to read the letter. He nods and proclaims LEE as KIM’s successor.

LEE immediately takes over the assemblyman’s office with GO JOON HEE by her side as her assistant. GO JUN constantly complains about her not focusing in on legislative bills, committee assignments and public events but GO JOON HEE says it is all about “relationships” with powerful people. LEE goes on a run of entertaining, drinking and flirting with powerful people in...

... order to be seen and photographed by the press. LEE skyrockets to immediate fame. She then uses her fame and ambition to start to blackmail politicians first with access to chaebol parties to straight forward cash payments to her.

But as LEE starts to “cash in” on her fame and position, KIM’s personality begins to grow and loudly complain in her head that she is doing wrong. As the headaches get more severe, LEE makes a “deal” with him to “try” to do good. KIM convinces her that there is more potential power and wealth by taking down the corrupt people than stealing from them. LEE suddenly changes course to become a very public Goddess of Justice to the dismay of GO JUN and his sister. She starts trapping corrupt politicians by taping them bragging about their biggest scores. She starts questioning big company development plans then suddenly bags of cash find their way to her office. KIM says she can’t keep it; LEE says she has “expenses to pay.” To GO JUN, she says she is really passionate about justice for the common man while to GO JOON HEE she says it is her long-con to be untouchable and wealthy.

LEE is soon overwhelmed by media attention and rich suitors for her affection. In a fit of exhaustion, she agrees to date wealthy investment banker CHOI SI WON but GO JUN objects because he has true feelings for her wild and crazy personality. LEE now struggles with a choice: get the prize of being a wealthy chaebol wife or be with an upright, socially responsible man.

I watched a bunch of Bubblegum this week so Jung Ryeo-won leaps to my mind as the conwoman. For that matter Lee Dong-wook could be in there as one of the other roles.
