Premiere Watch: Player 2 – Master of Swindlers

Reasons to watch: I confess I completely missed when the original Players premiered, but it’s always fun to see favorite characters return to the screen, and I like that this sequel didn’t ride on hype (being five years after the original). With most of the original cast returning (main swindling crew Song Seung-heon, Lee Shi-un, and Tae Won-seok), there are some new ladies joining the cast: Jang Gyuri and Oh Yeon-seo. Promising to be louder, flashier, and more wild than the original, I’m expecting a fun action romp with some 2024 pizzazz.

TL;DR: It doesn’t matter if you missed Season 1 because our Players are back with new swindles up their sleeves.

Action with a side of comedy seems to the ‘in’ genre for 2024. I might try this one after Crash finishes as that is successfully filling my ‘let’s try an action comedy’ slot on my watch schedule. I didn’t know what to expect but Crash has been a surprisingly good watch and is the first drama I watch on my busy Mondays. So, if Player 2 proves to have a similar vibe I look forward to binge watching in a few weeks time.

I like the premise, and I liked the season 2 preview I saw, so I'm currently watching season 1, which I should hopefully be done with in about a week so I can then watch season 2 weekly.

I was looking forward to this until I was reminded who "Oh Yeon-seo" is - an actress that has killed two enjoyable dramas for me. I'll give it a try and as long as there isn't a romance with her character, I hope to be able to enjoy it.

I didn’t have a problem with her specifically in Cafe Minamdang, but her character was written to be the worst! I kept hoping she would improve over the course of the drama (hope springs eternal I guess) but she remained violent and uninteresting throughout. Still waiting for the version where SIG was actually in a relationship with her oppa. I hope her character is better and more interesting here because this looks like it could be so fun!

@jls943 Café Minamdang was a drama that perhaps all of us desperately wanted to ~~love~~ like. I too didn't have a problem with any actors per se but the drama itself was a hot mess. I like your version of the drama.

I have my fingers crossed for Players.

Very excited to watch this. I love me a crime caper with cons, swindlers, and a privately traumatized but outwardly shining and confident gang of crooks out to be Robinhoods. Bring it on! Full sped ahead. Vrrrooommm!!
