the availability of Korean films has dwindled drastically.
I want to see Escape, and that Jeo Jin Gu film, and movie Flood, and a movie named Seeking the king with a mysetrious alien object in the forest.
excuse me I must yell at a patron

done.

anyway, I am plotting turning the Korean Culture Club into a movie club and somehow acquire access to streaming services and start having regular movie nights. also pressuring cinema chains but they say koreans no longer bring movies to the film markets they sell them directly to streaming sites.
meh.
tonight, Tallinn Old Town days, I must buy a knife, again. They sell the best knives on medieval fair.

art project almost finished, now only sewing the dress together and attaching leds.

I have the urge to sew so much but I mixed up all the patterns now I had to borrow Burda to figure out which pattern is which..

Taemin promised to start giving fans very early morning calls. I must prepare myself.

Interesting read about the crumbling status of the Korean drama industry and how over dependence on OTT is driving up costs and making female focused narratives less desirable especially for romcoms that live or die by the male lead and his fandom. It’s surprising how Netflix has less than 10 female actors on its roster of relevant actors.

Unfortunately no but you can try Naver translate. It does better with Korean to English translation.

Here’s another article detailing how Squid Game set of the domino effect of Netflix controlling everything from genre to actors and only wanting their favourites getting cast.

OTT stands for “over-the-top” and refers to technology (OTT services or platforms) that delivers streamed content via internet-connected devices.

I love me some Jeon Seok-ho, but it's like MUST be cast as a supporting character in all of Disney's Korean dramas. Like the old days when the studios would "own" stars, only for secondary cast!

Read with translation seemed OK. Thanks! I will paste a quote from one of the articles that I think lots of Beanies will find interesting....

"This is because the reality is that there are very few cases where a product is sold overseas because of an actress. Especially in the case of romantic comedies, they are sold because of male actors with high fan bases, so it doesn't really matter who the female actor is as the main character. I think dramas with female narratives are not working in the market right now. In the case of , which had great viewership ratings last year (centered on female narratives), it continued to fail to be sold overseas and was sold very cheaply at the last minute. So, it is difficult for the production side to prefer this configuration."

5
9
reply

Required fields are marked *

If even pulling in strong viewership ratings makes them redundant then we will be seeing less and less of female focused of dramas and more of what happened and continues to happen with LR where the male lead is clearly the only one who gained from the drama. The consumption of dramas by a largely young and impressionable female population also means that the value of male actors will continue to soar as the female audience replaces the female lead with herself and hence it’s completely irrelevant who they cast for the female lead. The whole industry is of this opinion and OTT continues to make it worse.

7

reply

Required fields are marked *

Even though in LR KHY carried the bloody drama and without her BWS wouldn’t have been able to shine anywhere as brightly. It is so unfair and depressing but this is clearly a systemic issue that predated the OTTs. The reality was though he hadn’t soared in previous dramas so it does matter that an exceptional actor like KHY carried the drama on her back through the arduous filming, being mistreated by that asshole PD and not being celebrated anywhere near enough. So, while I’m not taking an issue with your points so please don’t assume it is directed at you, it is absurd to think BWS could have carried LR without KHY’s stellar acting. Those same fans would have dropped it like a hot potato if the female lead hadn’t brought it home. KHY and other stellar female actors deserve a system which isn’t primed to venerate their male colleagues and to launch them into super stardom at their expense. Sigh. This is a tiny part of our world but it sucks. Bad enough that the genocide continues in Palestine, war rages in many parts and we have a rising tide of fascists gaining power.

6

reply

Required fields are marked *

You're right its a systemic issue that maybe pre-dated OTT but I do strongly feel that the over dependence on OTT has made the situation worse with some powerful OTTs basically tossing out the casts that a writer or director may have in mind and replacing it entirely with their cherry picked faves. Its hurting a lot of actors who have been blocked from prestige projects and are stuck with low hanging fruit. Take LR again for example where the male lead is flooded with 100s of scripts while the female lead only has a 2 year old drama to rely on for her comeback. The way female leads in romcom are being tossed aside as replaceable and irrelevant says a lot about how their treatment on set would be. Unless you have Suzy or HSH level visuals to rely on you'll get tossed aside and this is especially true for young rising stars. The female lead in Hierarchy gained fame primarily for her severe underweight figure and extreme dieting. her visuals before that were completely ignored but now she gains multiple article praising her looks. Dramas like LR hinge on visuals more than plot and acting so I'm not surprised that BWS got the lion share of the fame but the global craze over him is still very very surprising. Something like this never happens to even the top female celebrities at their peak. Even the Song Song couple hysteria didn't reach this level.

5

There you have it. All drama, movie and OTT scripts for actors in their 20s and 30s go to BWS. Basically every script being written right now is going to him. That will be a huge number.

Does the article say which drama is 'B' ("In the case of 'B,' which had great viewership ratings last year")? Thank goodness for The Glory and Marry My Husband, which were dramas with female narratives, carried by four actresses (Song Hye-kyo, Lim Ji-yeon, Park Min-young, Song Ha-yoon), AND were extremely successful.

2
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

But apparently the ratings still don’t benefit them because the male leads end up getting more recognition and get paid more because only their name allows the drama to sell overseas. Except in the case of The Glory because SHK is likely preferred by Netflix. My guess for B would be Revenant or Dr Cha because both could not find an OTT until the last min.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

I read the article really quickly, but I don't remember them mentioning specific dramas much. The basic theme regarding women was in terms of selling price of the drama and the ability/lack of ability to to earn money from rebroadcast in international markets. The non-streaming platforms need to sell the drama to make money. Often those female dominated stories just don't sell at at as high a price. Attorney Woo would be another exception of success, produced by ENA I think. I really didn't read it carefully enough though and I'm not very business savvy. So, someone else might be able to answer better. (I hope, since I thought it was really interesting).

3
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah basically they’re saying women led dramas don’t sell which why men have far greater value than women. Especially for romcom where they basically said the whoever the female lead is completely irrelevant. No OTT will buy a drama unless the male lead is popular or has a legion of fans. This is basically why CEW and SK have high demand in the market. They can sell anything and everything just by having their name attached.

4

Not suprised by this at all, i think most longtime drama fans have had the same opinion ever since netflix started producing original K-Dramas.

Of course women get the short end of the stick, and if they complain they will be attacked for being shrewish and bitter

When was the last time a rookie actress broke out into leading lady status? Especially compared to male rookies?

The only women who will survive the drama apocalypse are veteran actresses who can pull in viewers and have a proven track record.

5
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yet these actresses don’t make the Netflix Tier 1 pool of top actors means that’s how little their value is. We can probably summarize these 10 actresses as being JDY, SHK, JJH, KHJ, KGE, KHS, HSH, Suzy and IU.

I think the source of these articles is on the producer/Korean production studios side of this issue who are being squeezed in the middle by talent/production costs rising and broadcaster/OTT budgets lagging behind expense increases.

The question about skyrocketing actor appearance fees in media articles have to be taken with a grain of salt since the source is mostly the agent playing the market. Producers would not want salary information shared with the public. I have been researching the reality of reported and actual actor compensation for more than a year.

The unasked issue is the retreat of investor money in k-drama productions. Last year, investors got burned by korean films not making their break even points by miles. Stars in those films have taken reputation hits which can affect their future project offers.

The past model of local broadcast run followed by secondary license to cable/OTT/foreign markets is broken by OTT giants like Netflix who are wanting to own all the IP rights including secondary license fees (cutting out the production company). Unless you are an integrated entertainment conglomerate like CJ where you can fund your own projects, the majority of production studios are caught in a Catch-22 situation. Those with the investment money make the rules (in their favor.)

Many small studios are on the verge of shutting down precisely because of what you described. Netflix is dictating all the terms and the Japan-Korea crossover dramas are also a strategic move apparently. The sad part is the quality of Netflix original dramas are not good either. Minus a handful the majority of what Netflix has churned out is medicore at best but the amount of gore, violence and sexual exposure that they've introduced into the drama scene in Korea has ruined the original feels of what made them enjoyable in the first place. Now that top writers like KES and NHK are also moving to Netflix only dramas channels like KBS might completely stop producing mini series and SBS has found its formula in police procedural. MBC still needs to find its niche but either way can only afford a handful of top stars since most of them have exorbitant fees. Its starting to feel like the ones sticking around to do only terrestrial dramas are the ones being rejected by Netflix, Disney+, Tvn and Jtbc.

I wish there was a simple shareable excel list of 2024 dramas somewhere. I’m so lazy.

I’ve switched to almost exclusively live watching to manage my bingeing tendencies. 😅 And being able to discuss on recaps is a huge bonus (and often gets me to complete dramas I may not have otherwise).

Perhaps we can have a parallel C or other Asian drama bean list on OT at the end of the year. I only watch a few myself, complete even fewer. They take such stamina!

BUT, I do have a new Beanie Award category for this year: Best Cat.

No dogs need apply for this award, although they can have their own if someone else creates it...

I'm afraid I haven't finished ANY yet... Not my first time having a really bad kdrama year, but I don't remember things being so dire that I didn't even had a project or two to look forward (there are, but all of them are more likely for 2025). Like every time I open another news article here I'm not seeing anything interesting at all, and it's been going like this for a while...

Ahaha, yes, when did cdramas got so tempting all of sudden? Unfortunately, in depth discussions ain't happen anywhere else - I read few other sites, but don't write there, and at my local site it's more like live reaction comments than my usual essays you see here.

Perhaps something will surprise me. Hopefully. It shouldn't be that hard, right? Because bar is VERY low atm.

Something’s got to cross that low bar. But dare I say it, sometimes there’s a season for things. I only watched scandi-noir type show before k-dramas but look at me now…

Looks like there’s a great opportunity for Dramabeans franchises in C. J. T. and other drama worlds.

1

@indyfan I'm pretty comfy here already - lack of cdrama recaps doesn't hold me back at all, as you can probably see, heh))) Tho it would've been very handy with old long titles I have no patience for...

1

😱 Gosh K-dramas better pull up their socks for you.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Well, this is quite easy, because I just realized that I've apparently only finished 6 dramas that have aired this year (unless I'm forgetting something), so I guess I can just rank those. I'm not counting dramas that haven't finished yet.

1. Parasyte: The Grey
2. Marry My Husband
3. Pyramid Game
4. Frankly Speaking
5. Like Flowers in Sand (does this count as 2024?)
6. Goodbye Earth

And I like all of the above, so it's been a pretty good year so far I think.

If I recall correctly, if the drama hadn’t ended when they did the count (mid Dec?), it goes to the next year. But quote me not!

I think if the drama finale ends before December 31st the Bean could technically be counted in that year. But if it is airing on or after 1st Jan the drama would be counted in the next year.

There is some ambiguity for sure. Quite a few Beanies counted My Demon for 2023 while it was still going great guns but then by the time it finished airing in 2024 ... er, well @lordcobol is always right. So I guess it should be counted for 2024 but 🤷‍♀️

Meanwhile, I’d be giving those three beans to:
🥷 Knight Flower
🍶🍶 Dr Slump

I’m sensing MIDNIGHT ROMANCE might be up there, but it’s still running and I’m so slow catching up. I’m having the feeling it’s best binged and so I usually save up 4 episodes to watch in one go (because I cannot make myself wait for the entirety of the screening schedule before watching, but two episodes is not enough! 7

@attiton Sounds really good! I was a bit wary after your initial fan wall post 😆 Glad it comes around!

Yes the glasses… 🤓 and our cute couple! 👏 🫰

Blood Free is still on my list, too, but (non-)availability & mood are keeping me from it right now 😂 I guess I’ll have to return to JJH some time later…! (And yes, the comments about it made me second guess my initial want to watch. Oh well. You made it!!!)

4

I just about collected a bean for TSoPMC myself. Blood Free was even harder (cries bloody tears at that lost opportunity). I got a little tired of bean collecting and paused Midnight Studio at #12. But just one episode short? I’d agree with Seon-ha. You can do it!

I have some k-dramas I've liked, but I have to say that c-dramas are killing it this year and I'm WAY more interested in them than almost any k-drama still to release 😯.

We were all noobs once (except the original bean ofc :-). So, at the end of the year, we will give ourselves a bean for every 2024 drama we watch. Then, we get to redistribute those beans amid those shows, however we please (usually to our faves). Then, Beanies have lots of fun discussing their beans and running with the data.

I'm not sure if I'm doing a good job describing it. But you can see it in action in last year's post: https://www.dramabeans.com/2023/12/2023-year-in-review-the-bean-count/

It is a problem! 😂 Also at times, especially on the phone the tags don't always work. So then I right-click the Beanie's display name, open their fanwall in another window and look for their tag in their search box. Before I put my @ tag in my display name I don't know how many of my replies got addressed to the Beanie with the Cera tag!! 😊🤭 Comments for @claire2009 regularly get addressed to Healer.

Many of us indeed lurked for years so then our username suddenly didn't match up or was simply unavailable for us.

I've always wondered why Beanies didn't register with their display names. Was the username taken or too short ("Cera" is likely too short)?

Hi Open Threaders! You know, in a Dramabeans a long time ago, in a land far away, I used to write little stories here about my life related to kdramas. It was when one saw the blog change from just interactive through recaps and blog posts to what it is now, with the fan wall and everything else. The Open Thread is a place you can write your thoughts of anything, kdrama-related or not, and if kdrama-related, then spoilers welcome.

In my own little kdrama world on the OT, you were introduced to “math genius” and my clever daughter, who (spoiler alert) has become somewhat of a math genius herself and planning on majoring in math when she goes to college in a couple years. I used to write about their friendship hoping it might turn into my favorite trope, but I’m still waiting for that. (He did wish her a happy 16th birthday and recently took up golf, which being delusional, I think was so he could spend time with she-who-went-to-state-her-freshman-year. But daughter would rather die than actually invite him to play with her because, “mom, that would look too desperate and I’m not desperate, and not for him.” But he also got asked out to a “ladies pay all” dance by my daughter’s friend — not a good friend, but the one that asks my daughter for math help which daughter happily obliges, and why doesn’t she ask “math genius” and just asks him out to a dance instead 🙄; I know why, so that she doesn’t look dumb in front of her crush.)

Also, my pretty green flag husband who introduced me to kdramas and (little did he know) would create a kdrama/kpop fanatic in the process. And has said that if Gong Yoo wanted me, he’d fly him here and give him to me wrapped in a bow and step aside himself, because truly, who can compete with that? And has also said that if PBG was walking across the street, my kids would have a new dad. 😆

Also, my quiet, introverted son with the deep right-sided dimple, like so many of our favorite
oppas (and right now like Byeon Woo Seok who is just as obsessed with his dimple as we are) and now standing over 6ft, or 185 cm, starting to look like an adult and not a kid anymore. And yeah, he’s off to college in the fall.

And my mom who loves kdramas probably more than I do and has watched I’m not a Robot a dozen times to my, uh, zero times.

That catches everyone up to today. 😂

So the end of The Atypical Family has come. And I must admit, I started this partly because it was only 12 episodes, and mostly because it was Jang Ki-yong’s first kdrama post-military, and 1% because it was about time travel. But kdramas imprint themselves in my brain and I must have had an out of body experience like Gwi-ju because two nights ago, I was picking up around the house and went to the bathroom where my husband had taken out our scale to weigh some luggage that he was taking on a trip. I NEVER weigh myself. Maybe I did about 6-8 months ago. I don’t need that negativity in my life. (And also, I was a skinny kid and when I...

... went to my grandparent’s house in the summer, my dear old grandad would make us get on the scale when we got there and weigh us to see if my parents were feeding us, obviously. Anyway, trauma.) But since it was out, I thought I would step on it for just a second because I just got back from a vacation where I ate my weight in seafood, gummy candy, and ice cream, and thought maybe I’d gained a couple kilos (maybe 5 lbs). I also had a jogging pant on that I had just bought mistakenly in one smaller size than what I had bought prior, but wore it anyway, and yes it was tight, but I fit in it, and we all know that time of the month where we bloat and put on water weight and blamed that. Well, it was probably not the best day to weigh myself. But I did, and to my horror, it was 10-15 lbs more than what I was expecting and only 20 lbs less that what my husband weighed when we got married. THE TRAVESTY! So, again, with The Atypical Family on the brain, and channeling Bok Dong-hee’s transformation from fat suit to runway model, I made myself run for 30 minutes and circuit train or another 30 minutes. (And watched two episodes of Salon Drip 2 where BWS and KHY are being all crazy chemistry, and PBG being the emotional sweetheart that he is.) I’m thinking that I’m over 45 now, and so maybe entering my low metabolism phase and although I was flabbergasted I could gain so much weight, I was in the military, so I know what to do to expend some extra calories, and really, I need to be working out more anyway—the pandemic put a wrench in that.

Yesterday, I went to the coffee shop to get my usual coffee, but I did’t put any of that amazing sugar syrup in it because what if 3 pumps of pure sugar a day is what did it? I get to work and remember that my patients always complain that our scales weigh them more than what they weigh at home, so I’m curious to see if that scale would read the same or more than the digital one at home. I step on and to my absolute joy, it’s 12 lbs less! So either I lost 12 lbs of water weight and fat in one session of training or my scale at home is sadistic and is out to make me exercise. I didn’t want to jinx it, so I didn’t weigh myself again. But I remembered my husband saying before his trip that there was no way that his suitcase was 50 lbs and that he had no idea how it could be that when it wasn’t really full. I had nothing to tell him at the time. I texted him yesterday telling him that his suitcase was only 38 lbs and that we need to get rid of that scale. 😝

The only other thing that I’ve done post Lovely Runner is follow the two main leads’ and Eclipse’s instagrams and the hullabaloo around BWS’s fan meetings and airport arrivals and departures is just crazy unprecedented. He was basically unknown and unimportant 3 months ago. Oh, I did preorder the OST and the Eclipse mini-album! And the mini-album looks legit, honestly.

I’m also enjoying Jisung and Mido in Connection. Also, Kwan Yool too. I saw him first in...

some scales have settings like you press twice and enter your age, height etc and sometimes they get messed up and show strange number. I had the opposite case that I thought I gained weight but I have dropped 4 kg instead and I dont like that bc when I go under 56kg I get so cold and freezing I cant get warm even if I jump into fire.

you son is scary tall.

My kids' friends would get excited when they got taller then me. I would laugh and tell them it wasn't a big accomplishment. Notice I didn't say my kids because they all stopped growing at my height. LOL

Also, no way is your son old enough for college! Ugh, time.

... Let’s Eat 2 and I’m glad he gets steady work as these side characters because he’s really good. That’s the kind of actor that if I had any inkling to be an actor I would be: the morally ambiguous side character (although he’s not so ambiguous right now, he’s downright corrupt).

I won’t bore you anymore with my typical conversations. You just read one that I had with myself in my head, 12 hours of thinking I was 12 lbs heavier than I really was and dang if perimenopause sneaks up on everyone that fast! Speaking of being old, I have 2 doctor’s visits tomorrow. Wish me luck. And good luck and good health to all of you today!

SOULMATE (2023) is a coming-of-age story where two friends first meet at 11 years old and spend the course of 14 years remaining close and sharing experiences in both friendship and romance. It starred Kim Da Mi and Jeon So Nee. It did modest Korean box office ($1.7 million). But the production company is now re-releasing it this year because of the breakout of actor Byeon Woo Seok. Will a second bite at the Apple be worth it? I don’t know, but producers are making odd choices on distributing content (example, three episodes of TAROT bundled into a movie theater release on June 14).

NOTES FROM EARLY 9TAILEDFOX'S EARLY JUNE:

1. THE MOUSE IS A LOUSE

Disney+ in my region sneakily revised their offered plans and transitioned me WITHOUT MY PERMISSION to a more expensive plan since now instead of forcing everyone to take out a quarterly subscription, they finally are offering monthly, quarterly, and annual plans. But wait! The quarterly plan is PREMIUM which means I got charged 33% more this month.

But are they going to refund me or pro-rate it so I can switch to the basic plan? Nope. I had to cancel my auto-renew and wait out the current subscription and then resubscribe for the annual basic plan.

If Disney+ wasn't carrying so many K-Dramas, Marvel, Hulu, Star Wars and Doctor Who, I'd have just kicked them to the curb.

So PSA to Beanies - if you're a Disney+ subscriber in Asia, go check their website for your region/country to see if they've sneakily changed plans.

2. COMING UP - ANOTHER TURN ROUND THE SUN

My birthday week is coming up and I'm feeling oddly flat about it.

I have secured a super long weekend that started yesterday and will run until my birthday on Monday (i.e. no classes to teach at all!) but so far it's just more of sabbatical chillaxing to regain my spoons.

I did receive a surprise in the mail - an ARMY friend from Scotland and her daughter sent me the official BTS biography with a photo card of a particular BTS member inside *ahem*. They are among several ARMY friends who are still campaigning for me to officially become ARMY and this is their latest salvo haha!

(c) THIS WEEK IN KOREAN WOMEN'S NEWS

Actor Lee Sun-bin promotes female volunteer army in commemoration of Memorial Day

Actress Lee Sun-bin and Seo Kyoung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University and an activist promoting Korea, have joined forces to shed light on the female volunteer army during the Korean War (1950-53) in commemoration of the June 6 Memorial Day.

As part of a campaign to honor people who sacrificed themselves for their nation's defense, the two have collaborated to share an online post on social media introducing some 2,400 women who participated in the Korean War without receiving any compensation. According to the post, they not only engaged in combat activities, but also dedicated themselves to nursing and administration in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Happy Friday, Beanies! It was a pretty crazy week – at some point I even doubted I will be able to prepare a new playlist in time, but thankfully my stubbornness won over unfortunate circumstances. My ridiculous injury is healing very well too, don't worry. In fact, I've been shedding scabs like a snake these few days – more in X-Files monster of the week fashion, sadly, and not like a spirit in fantasy drama...

I think it was 2 weeks ago I complained about powerhouse duo of LYN and Zhang Bichen being given a rather lame to my tastes OST to sing together and guess what? Universe must've agreed with me since I apparently they also performed together once! And not just anything, but their famous solo drama songs respectively – hers “Direction of light” from THE LONG BALLAD (ha, the meta!) and his “Ask heavens” from WORD OF HONOR. Now that's a blockbuster stage by all things considered! Also they're both just so pretty here, wow (I'm really fond of his belted jacket and those xianxia hairclips):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0raIsdrL4HM

Mini-bonus: no idea what's this about, but such a cute ending after all the drama! TV stations with their tight schedules always cut the good stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k47uXXG1J-g

Since we're back again to Yuning feat female singers topic, here's one with Miriam Yeung from yet another Spring Festival (Lunar NY) galas – sometimes I feel like he's done too many of them, way more than it's believable logically for a guy who's only been around for 5 years lol. It's a mix from 3 different songs - “Gravity”, “Mojito” (should I comment on the irony of him having to dance AGAIN or him singing about alcohol when he cannot handle a single glass of wine?) and “See you, see you, see you”. Choose your fighter – good quality video with super low volume or microwave video with a decent sound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEcxGB4d8VQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS7SVPKX2Ps

If you're getting tired from real life ladies, he also once sang with an AI – I'll never understood the appeal of virtual idols (if they're not real, what's so impressive about their “talents” then?), but Asia loves them... Idk, he still sings (and looks) better than this Chinese anime snow-maiden, whatever “her” name is. Props to my man for managing to have a chemistry even with a hologram!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGzRmGQsddg

Speaking of festive galas, not everything has to be about romance or girls – sometimes a whole choir can do too. This has distinctive propaganda undertones, but that I can overlook. Also, just how many moving platforms were needed to make everyone on the same level/above him? Bwahaha, another day in his “Gandalf among hobbits” tough life))) Right, song is called “Ideal”, I think.

Aaand another choir – much more to my liking, awww, so cute! We can clearly see which team he's more happy to perform with))) Reminds me of that one time when fans urged him to go procreate and he was NOT amused with the idea, snarking back that he'd rather become a kid again himself – to work less and sleep more, presumably, or maybe just to avoid that kind of stereotypical Asian mom-like advice^^ Back to the stage - that jacket needs to burn, plus I'd like to have a word or two with whoever did kids makeup. Song is “Pear blossoms bloom again”:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98ThHh_q7fM

Bonus: no freaking idea wtf was that or WHY, but it's hella entertaining even without subs, amirite? Love how he doesn't hesitate to use any means to win – teeth included – and that smug smile and victorious pose in the end!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL8Qj2QO0cs

Bonus 2: pretty student of THE TRUTH academy's drama club being so flowery (in the most literal goth fashion) that mother nature kindly decided to water him thorough. Hey, perhaps he'll grow even taller after that^^

I was watching the fight scene from the HBO show Euphoria (I don't know if that show has a lot of fight scenes but this one is pretty iconic fron what I understand) and oh my god, I feel such second hand mortification every time I see it. It's layers to it.
1- this happened onstage in front of damn near the entire school
2- a shameful betrayal was announced in front of hundreds of people
3- the actual beating
4- this is being filmed on people's phone so it's gonna spread like wildfire

Ugh, it's just so mortifying to me to even imagine and I know it's a tv show but it made me think about how hard it is to be a teen or a kid today because if something mortifying or even embarrassing or just naive and dumb happen nowadays, you can't really live it down. It just haunts you forever or threatens to haunt you.

I will sound like a boomer but it's one of those moments that make me go "it was better in the past)

Aren't humans hilarious?
Even though the reason why I feel comfortable asking my friends for favors that annoy them is because the ask me favors that annoy me, I still get annoyed when they ask for those favors and they get annoyed with me the same way.

But we're the only people we can ask annoying favors to, so what are we supposed to do? LOL

This week I really appreciated my friends.

Also, on a kdrama note. Isn't is kind of funny the gay-erasure drama is airing on pride month?
I don't know, I find it hilarious.
I find everything about it hilarious.

Anyway, I (re)watched The Bear with one of my besties last weekend but we talk way too much (before, during and after every single episode), so we only finished season 1.

I don't want to be THAT friend, but she disappeared for the rest of the week and I'm seriously considering rewatching season 2 without her if she doesn't give any signals tomorrow. I can just watch it again whenever she comes back anyway (already watched it 4 times before). 😂

Oh, I started reading the book Anxious People... it feels like it was written by a Twitter troll. People need to stop saying the ending is worth it because I don't want to suffer anymore.

I hope you had a great week, beanies de mi corazón! XOXO
