News bites: June 23, 2024

Kim So-hyun, Chae Jong-hyeop, Yoon Ji-on, Dasom

  • The newly christened Serendipity’s Embrace (previously Is It a Coincidence) has confirmed their air date on tvN, broadcasting in the Monday-Tuesday slot starting July 22 next month. Headlined by Kim So-hyun (My Lovely Liar), Chae Jong-hyeop (Castaway Diva, Eye Love You), Yoon Ji-on (My Lovely Liar), and Dasom (Kokdu: Season of Deity) as our main quartet, the rom-com and webtoon adaptation has PD Song Hyun-wook (The Midnight Studio) at the helm with scripts by Park Geu-ro. [MBC]

  • Jo Yi-hyun (The Matchmakers) is reviewing an offer for a new romance called Because Oppa’s House is Empty (roughly translated), based on a popular webnovel and webtoon by the same title. Still in the early stages, Jo is up to play a third-generation chaebol, somehow getting entangled in a pearl-clutching co-habitation scandal with her bestie’s older brother. He is of course our title’s “Oppa” who just so happens to be a top star film actor. [Xports News]
  • MBC’s upcoming I Don’t Like Donkatsu came out with a new poster, with our village head Jung Sang-hoon (Twinkling Watermelon) begging for some privacy in their close-knit but oh-so-nosy community. Come July 5, the two-episode comedy will follow a busy week for gossip in their little town as our characters face a circumcision, vasectomy, and dog neutering in a triple whammy of coinciding events. [MBC]

  • Over on tvN, The Auditors team is busy on the chase for office baddies in the newest teaser, with Shin Ha-kyun (Evilive), Lee Jung-ha (Moving), and Jo Ah-ram (Doctor Cha) standing against company vice president Jin Gu (Shadow Detective). The office-comedy is slated to premiere on July 6, airing weekends following The Midnight Romance in Hagwon. [Newsen]
  • SBS’s legal drama Good Partner released a new teaser as well, showcasing our rookie lawyer Nam Ji-hyun (High Cookie) as she unexpectedly finds herself working in divorce cases under the sharp-tonged Jang Nara (My Happy Ending). Along with fellow attorneys Kim Joon-han (Anna) and Pyo Ji-hoon (Mouse), the series will be launching on July 12. [News]
  • The promos continue on Disney+ with new stills for Red Swan, with Kim Haneul (Nothing Uncovered) under pressure from her chaebol mother-in-law Seo Yi-sook (Knight Flower). Also starring Rain (Ghost Doctor), Jung Kyeo-woon (You’re Too Much), Yoon Je-moon (Nothing Uncovered), and Ki Eun-se (Now We Are Breaking Up) in an ensemble cast, the action-melo will be coming to our screens on July 3. 2: I love cohabitation drama. I'll be looking at who they cast as lead.

4: breathes... It is only another fortnight wait.

5: Seo Yi-sook's hair is glorious.

No interest in RED SWAN-not my cup of tea anyway but a painful reminder of how Disney made sure I could not watch RED HEART. I am still steamed.

Given the background of the writer I will at least start GOOD PARTNER because it will probably avoid the egregious face palm moments found in some 'Legal' shows which render them unwatchable to me even if non-lawyers find them to be very good, with HYENA still remaining as my prime example. But a big second reason is that I am a very big fan f Jang Nara.

The two romcoms are based upon webtoons or web novels and that is usually a very good sign, if not a guarantee. I look forward to trying both of them.

And surely there is no one who does not like donkatsu.

Hyena is hugely entertaining, which does not equate good, or correct at all! 😄😄

Which is exactly my point- for 99% of the potential audience it was. Only a very few people would be doing a face palm in the first episode. But we have good reason to believe that such will not happen with GOOD PARTNER.

With Serendipity’s Embrace (can’t say I love this title change) coming so soon, I feel like I should know/remember more of what it’s about. I’ll probably watch it anyway to catch Chae Jong-hyeop’s smile. Here’s hoping for a better role for Yoon Ji-on this time around! Please let him be nicer to and less jealous of Kim So-hyun - and also not in love with her! (Now that I’m writing this out I realize how tall an order this is 😅)

They haven’t started any promotions yet but it’s a first loves reunited romance. YJO was the ex-love of KSH. It’s supposed to be a four way romance maybe. CJH is the US return first love of Dasom.

1. Well at least this ML can act!! 😘❤

2. I love me a "pearl-clutching co-habitation scandal". Just hope the top star ML is cast well.

4. Comedy by numbers - count me in. 😉 😜

5. Written by a RL lawyer sounds promising. 🤞

Why do I feel this could be another BSW project? He would fit in nicely with the movie star image.

I really don't think I can stand any pearl-clutching tension after seeing what's happening at our neighbourhood Hagwon, but I'll try it anyway hoping for cohab hijinks and tension.

I just asked about the Chae Jong Hyop one, and I hope it airs somewhere accessible to me. Same with Auditors.

Will watch Red Swan- based off the trailer videos, it looks good, and it's on D+.
