A gripping modern mystery drama largely anchored by an excellent performance by Kim Nam-joo, the story beats are familiar but the pacing, direction, and characters are solid, this will largely fly under the radar because of higher profile projects out at the same time but its definately worth watching.

How many hankies will you give it? I want to watch it but I don’t think I have the necessary emotional bandwidth/resilience at this point.

*****POTENTIAL SPOILERS******

The final quarter is when your spirit will really be tested, the final revelation about "what really happened" is absolutely nauseating.

But the reveal itself never feels sensational or cheap, its a result of every layer of the mystery being slowly unravelled, in short its "earned" if that makes sense.

A beautifully told, hearbreaking story of grief and healing that managed to maintain its pace throughout without getting lost in sideplots or circular narratives. Kim Namjoo have an incredible performance that may unfortunately be overlooked because the show itself was not flashy or romantic, and Cha Eunwoo also embodied his character impressively. Hopefully she will take another drama soon instead of retiring for another 6 years, and hopefully he will get a whole new caliber of scripts thanks to this work.

Just finished this one. It was really intense and kept me watching all the way. I really liked it although it isn't a light fluffy drama. The issues were dealt with in a sobering yet satisfying way and yes, I cried with her more than once. It is so well done and the actors are so believable. Very well done and I recommend it totally with a box of tissues by your side. I have lost children myself so it resonated with me more maybe but it is so very good.

perhaps relatable is closer than satisfying.

No regrets watching this as all the cast including Cha Eun Woo really deliver in terms of acting. This thriller is truly different from the rest as it is a melo-thriller (melodrama + thriller), instead of your punch-chase-shoot or legal-investigative kind. Thus it does play on the emotional part well. As for Kim Nam Joo, she really solidify her position as a respected actress through this drama as a grieving mother who wants to seek justice for her son.

I agree with the beanies here its more melo than a thriller/mystery as the plot is predictable. But the acting is top notch, you can feel their pain and its well paced.

I was absolutely captivated by this drama, though I must admit, there were moments when the pacing seemed to drag a bit, only to unexpectedly rush headlong into a finale that felt a tad too predictable with its neatly tied-up happy ending. Yet, Kim Nam-joo's compelling portrayal of Eun So-hyun was nothing short of mesmerizing. It was a breath of fresh air to see Cha Eun-woo shed his usual 'eye candy' roles for a character with real depth and substance.
This drama was a wild ride! Eun So-hyun's journey was so powerful to watch—from the depths of despair to the heights of grace, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Her strength and grace were indeed off the charts. And her innate will to not let others as well be consumed by the darkness…. beautiful. The delicate balance between being kind/good-hearted and being formidable and protective of your family…. only Kim Nam-joo could pull it off. The way the other characters' flaws and weaknesses, though very humane, were contrasted with her strengths made for such compelling storytelling and yet true to the theme that they returned back to grace somehow. I loved the characterization of Yoo-ri, Su-ho and Su-ho’s mom. I also loved the subtle, simple strength of good-heartedness portrayed by So-hyun's mother and the silent, carrying the burden of guilt of her jail mate, Hyun-ja. They add a lot of weight to the story.

This show felt to me like distant relative of "Just between Lovers" in its exploration of how grief can rattle people in their core and turn into different persons. There is a mystery that gets cleared up and yes, almost none of the revelations are really surprising nor are they meant to be, in my view. It's more about looking close at the protagonists and watch them how they navigate pain and guilt, first very alone and later together, and even later to overcome the worst of it.
This show loves its details, and I loved all the mirroring scenes and developments as well as early hints that things aren't quite as they seem or as the protagonists think of themselves and / or others.
It's not an easy watch because of the themes that are on display here, but in my opinion it's very worth its time and effort.
