When squabbles turn to love in Doctor Slump

With the premiere now just over a week away, a new highlights reel has dropped for JTBC’s medical rom-com Doctor Slump, where we follow Park Shin-hye (Sisyphus) and Park Hyung-shik (Our Blooming Youth) as they grow from enemies to friends, and then to something more.

Taking us back to their high school days, the teaser begins with the origins of their rivalry when Nam Ha-neul (Park Shin-hye) transferred to the same school as Yeo Jung-woo (Park Hyung-shik). Thus began their petty squabbles, unwilling to share the top student position in their school.

We then jump ahead 14 years to the present, with Jung-woo now a famous plastic surgeon. Here, we get a brief but fun glimpse of fellow doctor Yoon Park (Delightfully Deceitful), who incidentally has a love-hate relationship with our hero as well.

But Jung-woo’s success is cut short by a pretty serious malpractice case, all the while Ha-neul – who is also in medicine – faces setbacks in her career that push her to quit. This is when that magical fate steps in, reuniting our leads when they’re both at rock bottom.

Their friends – including Gong Sung-ha (Daily Dose of Sunshine) – can see that our leads protest too much, insisting that they’re enemies and not first loves. Still, Ha-neul and Jung-woo find comfort in their mutual sadness and officially agree to become real friends.

We know, of course, that their cutely developing relationship isn’t exactly platonic, but our soon-to-be-lovers are flustered and confused. The teaser then comes to a close as they try to process how they really feel.

Directed by PD Oh Hyun-jong (The One and Only, Find Me in Your Memory) with scripts by Baek Sun-woo (My Roommate Is a Gumiho, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim), JTBC’s Doctor Slump premieres next week on January 27, following Welcome to Samdal-ri in the weekend slot.

This trailer is great it looks like the drama is everything I hoped it would be with the drama elements realistic without the need for really evil annoying person or stalker. Looking forward to weekend slot having some fun.

10 more days! Count down begins.

Only possible stalker mystery is the cause of the CCTV to be down during the medical emergency during surgery. Just bracing myself in case something like that happens to taint what looks like a fun enemy to lovers story. Maybe a jealous rival hides the fact that the patient has a blood clotting disorder and then purposely sabotages the CCTV?

With the end of Tell Me that You Love Me and Like Flowers in Sand the next week, I really need a good drama!

So I have a lot of hopes for this drama. I already like the actors.

I am so excited for this drama, also a little scared, because the last time I was this excited was 2 months back for Samdal Ri and we all know how that went.

I am also scared because this has the 'falling from career peak due to a scandal' trope and I really hope we don't dwell on it too much and far too long with many drunken rants, like a particular drama. Can you tell I am scarred? ;) Lol..

But yes, can't wait to see Park Hyung Sik again, he is just so adorable. I am neutral about Park Shin Hye too, so yes, bring it on!

😅😅
I’ve just never been able to finish any of her dramas— no, that’s a lie, I’ve watched and finished 2, “Autumn in My Heart” and “Doctors”… FF thru “Heirs— nor do dramas appeal to me anymore once she’s been announced as FL for it/as being attached to it in some capacity. Once her attachment to a drama has been announced, I actually become turned off by the drama 🫠😅 The announcement for this drama was a bit better, only because I love and adore Park Hyung Sik, but my excitement for it isn’t as much as I’d like it to be for a Park Hyung Sik drama because she’s attached to it

We don't go a day without someone on dramabeans dragging women to praise men and encouraging others to do the same. Sad but expected.

This is refreshing:
It’s been a minute since I’ve had someone—especially an unregistered account who THINKS they know me, thinks they know who I am in this community, thinks they know my thoughts, thinks they know my feelings, and thinks they know my thought processes— drag me on a Friday morning 💅🏻 🤭

I mean, if you’re so bothered by such comments—and are also insinuating that it’s a regular occurrence on Dramabeans (it’s really not), then why are you even here?

@db-staff
I hope something can be and will be done about comments like this, especially when they’re being made by unregistered accounts. All of these hate comments Aare not simply about the posts themselves, but have become personal attacks on the registered members on DB. It has been happening so much so that some of us on the receiving end of such comments are becoming numb to them… THAT is how frequent it’s been happening. I, personally, was even on the receiving end of some really racist behaviour on Dramabeans during Covid—which I had emailed you about, but received no response—and the person who did that to me has now even managed to make an officially registered account and comments on things here regularly. Just FYI 👍🏻

Bebe Nessa, "not excited that the FL is Park Shin Hye" <- I feel the same about 3 or so other, "top" FLs that just always seem so wooden and off-putting that I regrettably by pass their many dramas.

Regarding some of the more recent recaps and commenters:
here in 2024, although I still frequently use DB to guide my view choices and sometimes to fill in gaps of my understanding of some scenes, I miss the great, Korean-knowledgeable and humorous recaps of Javabeans and Girlfriday, along with the polite, enlightening and thought-provoking comments by many of the "old faithful" Beanies back in the mid to late 20teens.
Dramabeans played a big part in my switching to Kdramas from Hollyweird and some British detective series (after my college daughter shared a couple of shows with me).
Since JB and GF left, then a mostly different (younger?, ruder) group of regular commenters showed up, it just isn't the same enhancing experience.

@drabea
Exactly, and I have no issue with that— for myself or others. We’re all humans and not robots, which means we all have our own thoughts, ideas, and preferences. I just don’t prefer to watch PSH, and that’s all there is to it. Nothing personal 🤷🏻‍♀️

What absolute nonsense. @bebeswtz, I'm sorry you've had to put up with this kind of garbage.

Thank you for your kind words, Elinor ♥️🥰
I'm honestly unbothered, so that person can feel and say whatever they want. It's not a reflection of me, but them. The last time I was truly hurt on DB was the one time mentioned above--when racist vitriol was spouted at me--but I've since moved on. I trust and know that I have a community here which supports and pours love unto me 🫶🏻

Initially I too was apprehensive about her being the FL. In a sea of amazing FLs, why Shin Hye, especially for a romcom, had been my first thought. But then the trailers dropped and I love what I am seeing. She is matching him in his goofiness and looks lovely. And I didn't think she had comic timing, but by the looks of it, she does.
I am hoping this would turn things around for her too. I know a few beanies are worried about their non platonic scenes, but hey, PHS has been giving borderline chaste kisses to his FLs (though he somehow makes it quite evocative) in the last three seconds in every series in the last three years so I am not even expecting anything other than goofiness, pure comedy and some profoundly serious scenes from this.

Yea, I’m not completely dismissing the drama just because she’s in it, but just in general, I’ve never vibed with her or her works, that’s all—it’s not anything personal against her 😅. I’m happy to be proven wrong—in terms of not vibing with her or her works— and if this is the drama that will do it, then yay!!

Nothing is wrong if one dislike an actress here, if he or she does not criticized their age, gender and so on. In your case, it has nothing to do with dragging down one's gender.....bla, bla, bla

Agree. I have been very vocal on many actors I absolutely do not care for and cannot watch their work (Cha Eun Woo for example). Rowoon was up on my list but I am glad I watched Matchmakers. He did comparatively well and was quite watchable, especially in the funny scenes (he still can't emote though but that's OK). And I have loved the actresses here. One actress I do not think I can watch again is Go Ara after Hwarang. And yet I have watched that series more than once (only selected episodes) because I love the men in it. So everyone has their favorites and then those who keep me away as a viewer in both genders.

I totally meant to reply to your original comment and say "yeah me too" but as I read the comments below it was just so out of place. 🙄
I'm really sorry that you had to face totally unprovoked personal attacks online. It must have been really hard and I'm even more sorry that you did not receive support from the site.
Very happy to know that you have since moved on from that.
Yes you have a lotvof love and support on the site and some random person making uncalled for remarks is best ignored.

I don't watch a lot of k drama trailers but do they usually show this much of the drama? It feels like I watched the first half of the drama already.

His face is so exceptionally mobile, this guy just flows into a character. Park Hyung Sik's transition from the stuffed up uptight distrustful crown prince of 'Our Blooming Youth' who barely moved any muscle in his body other than his face (an amazing performance by any yardstick) to this crackjack crazy ball of energy in this drama is so smooth it's incrdible. I was a bit on the fence about Park Shin Hye but she is bringing so much energy that it's infectious. But I do love the storyline, especially Park Shin Hye's because it's so relatable.
And I am sure doctor beanies can relate to the malpractice viperpit. I like the thread of suspense.
I wish they showed a bit more of Yoon Park too. But I guess PHS always had something extra about him even that young. I remember 'What Happens To My Family's preview being dominated by him as well.
Another 8 days to go. And I am already biased, so at least one bean in my kitty for 2024 haha!
