Sharpshooter Kim Hye-joon runs A Shop for Killers

Another teaser is out for Disney+’s action thriller A Shop for Killers, spotlighting the predicament our heroine finds herself in after receiving an unconventional inheritance from her late uncle. In order to survive, she’ll need to run the blood-stained business as both a fighter and an entrepreneur.

Kim Hye-joon (Connect) stars as the orphan Jung Ji-ahn, who’s grown up in the care of her uncle Jung Jin-man ever since losing her parents. Now that said uncle — played by Lee Dong-wook (Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938) — has also died, she’s all on her own.

In the wake of her uncle’s passing, Ji-ahn receives an inexplicably hefty bank transfer of a sum with too many zeroes to count. A little digging, assisted by her friend Park Ji-bin (Blind), reveals that Jin-man used to run a website that sells weapons — creatively named “murthehelp,” ha. Totally not suspicious, and totally not complicit in murder.

Through a flashback, we hear a piece of advice from Jin-man. If Ji-ahn is home alone, his “friends” will come knocking; at no point should she ever open the door for them. That’s easier said than done, since these unwelcome visitors are heavily armed. But Jin-man’s training is ingrained into Ji-ahn’s bones, and when she pulls out a sniper rifle to retaliate, her bullet finds its mark.

“Only when they answer your riddle correctly should you open the door for them,” Jin-man instructs, piquing my curiosity as to what puzzles Ji-ahn will set. No matter how much firepower her enemies — in the form of Seo Hyun-woo (Celebrity) and Geum Hae-na (Cannonball) — may bring to the table, Ji-ahn is determined to protect her uncle’s empire. “If you keep attacking this place in order to usurp it,” Ji-ahn warns, “then you shall all die here.”

Directed by Noh Kyu-yub and written by Ji Ho-jin, with Lee Kwon (Rescue Me 2) leading on both fronts, A Shop for Killers will commence operations on January 17.

Perhaps a welcome antidote to all those small-town-healing rom-coms ?

But will the guns be blurred out????

An anti-healing drama ...? That is a new genre indeed, My Lord.

Good question about the guns. 🔫 Or will they use colorful plastic ones, just for fun.

It's on Disney, they shouldn't have the same restrictions.

With only 8 episodes, this will be a good alternative from the sagueks and revenge dramas.

Who wouldn't time travel for the purpose of revenge?
I certainly would. The plot doesn't even need to kill me first. I'd happily travel in time for free!

In the meantime, I'll sharpen my little revenge tools.

Sounds interesting, especially if uncle kept his business a secret from her while he was alive. He must think she's capable and adaptable enough to leave her something she knows nothing about and might feel a good deal of distaste for. But you know, if left a business, even a shady one you might criticize in someone else's hands, it must be tempting to try and make a go of it and become a Ms Big yourself. Alas, that's how easy it is to corrupt humanity. All you need are resources to pass on.

Also did he train her enough to be able to survive in what is to all accounts a "cutthroat" business.

I might give this one a whirl because: 8 episodes only + Lee Dong Wook, with a mustache shadow on his lip, which instantly takes him from heartthrob to half-korean-half-siberian ajusshi (and I like it).

I don't mind the violence but I mind the guns. SK doesn't even allows guns like that. I miss the other creative deadly weapons like using a nail gun or darts or shurikens.

Can't the assassins be creative, even if this based on webtoon/web novel (I don't know which). Changes can happen in adaptations.
