Premiere Watch: The Bequeathed
by missvictrix
Time slot: Friday (single drop)
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Mystery, suspense, thriller, occult, crime
Episode count: 6
Reasons to watch: Netflix snuck up on us with this one — another dark tale featuring Kim Hyun-joo as a rattled heroine. This time, she’s going along with the current dramaland trend of inheriting dangerous things from your uncle, but in this case it’s a family gravesite that’s deeply entangled with local crime and creepy secrets. While the cast is great here (Park Hee-soon, Ryu Kyung-soo, Park Byung-eun) and the production looks top-notch, occult killings are not my thing, so even the Trolley reunion isn’t enough to lure me in.
TL;DR: Kim Hyun-joo inherits a family gravesite and things get creepy fast

Are we sure its only 6 episodes with clear ending? There is no ridiculous cliffhanger hinting at season 2? I won't bet my money on Netflix...

lolol I hear you there - although I'm actually not upset at all that we're ending up with a second season for Gyeongseong Creature. I looked forward to that drama for years it seems (since I feel like it took forever to actually get finished and then get slated to air), and it was in my opinion worth the wait :)

@missvictrix, I finished the first episode and I am going to continue . A brief highlight , no too spoilerish.
I also tried the first episode of A Shop For Killers, I won’t continue that one.
Hard working FL has a crap work life, (not recognized for work) and a crap marriage . Her uncle, that she did not know she had, passes away and she inherits some burial land. Uncle’s refusal to sell said land back in the day held up a building project , so uncle had enemies.
Cops come to investigate uncles’s death. Of course, there are two ahjussi cops with a history and there seems to be a one sided hate between the two cops.

Ooh thanks for this! I'm excited to try it out, although I probably won't have time until tomorrow night (I have a few appointments in the morning with friends this weekend)

I am considering watching this since I need to beef up my weekly kdrama list. I do not mind the theme, I like other horror themed kdramas like Revenant, The Guest and The Cursed. I will check out the first episode first then decide.

Haha the horror genre has grown on me (at least for kdramas). I'm still not a fan of slasher flicks at all, but stories like Revenant are fun.

Question: you say you don't mind the theme... but is it a favorite? If not, what is your preferred genre? Do you have one?

I like the genre and SK does horror really well. Its usually based on traditional folklore or shamanism. I do not usually look for it but if they offer it, I would normally see if its something I can continue watching.
Romcoms are my usual preferred genre. But it can get tiring so its best to try a different genre every now and then.
How about you? What is your favorite genre?

Nice nice! I think I feel the same way about the Korea horror genre - and I really do like the folklore/shamanism basis myself, too.

My favorite genre is usually anything crime related - cops over prosecutors, and yes I like the weird "this is a romance but there's a serial killer" trend lolol
at least most of the time. And that's not to say I like ALL cop shows dramaland puts out. Just a lot of them haha
I also like a good romcom although I can be a bit pickier there/have to be in the mood.
And lastly I have a soft spot for melancholic healing dramas (characters overcoming PTSD or dealing with heavier topics in an interesting manner a la Just Between Lovers, Chocolate, The One and Only, Recipe for Farewell etc.)

Only six episodes and it’s friday. Sure, why not? I’ll check it out. Even if the writing goes to the dog, at least I’ll see Kim Hyun-joo for a couple hours.

Lol that is such a mooood - I am tempted to do something similar myself actually. We'll have to see if my husband wants to game together or if he's going to do more competitive gaming with his brothers instead. If he's doing the more competitive stuff then I'll probably just binge it along with you!

Let's gooo!! Ahaha I'm all for creepy occult killings (except I actually wasn't a huge fan of Ok Taec's cult drama "Save Me", go figure). Regardless, I'm super down for this and excited to see that it is a straight binge drop on Netflix.

Hi, is this more of horror than mystery/thriller? I am desperately looking for a pure mystery or thriller.
