Perfect Marriage Revenge: This week’s episodes were the tiniest bit less fun - less OTP, more effort to make the plot hang together (why bother, show?) but it’s still crack and gets close to a perfect score on entertainment value.
The Matchmakers: Gorgeous, funny, swoony, and with just the right mix of cleverness and silliness. I admit, I’ve completely fallen for this show. It might be the Joseon-Detectives-with-romance that Our Blooming Youth failed to be.
Moon in the Day: I might still be watching this. I can’t tell. It’s a train wreck, wrapped in a blank stare, inside an amusement park.
My Dearest part 2: Grrr. I’ve decided to stash this bean in my pocket and have dramnesia about everything except the last 20 minutes, since that’s clearly part of Part 1 when this looked like it would be a different drama altogether. The timelines and time lapses in this show were absolutely nuts.
A Good Day to Be a Dog: Paused so I can watch (or maybe not bother) later when there are more episodes.

Older shows:
Fake It Til You Make It (Cdrama): This pulled me right in. The Pretentiousness Olympics make me laugh and shudder at the same time. Elvis and Elvira (that name combo is still cracking me up) are fire.
Stealer: The Treasure Keeper: Through ep. 3; so far it’s goofy fun despite being a dollar-store Healer, and Joo-won is having the time of his life. It’s clear the whole budget went to actors, costumes, and sets and the writing was an afterthought - if that.

Watching:
Perfect Marriage Revenge: What a ride! I want to slap that weaselly ex-fiancee, I want to see the evil stepsister taken down a peg or three, I want the stepmother to be thwarted, I want to know what makes hot glasses secretary (*Secretary Kim*) tick, I want Do-guk to keep saying the sweetest things in the world and backing it up with swoony actions, and I want Yi-joo to get sweet, sweet revenge. Four eps to go!! WOO!!

Park's Marriage Contract: Really enjoyed the first episode! Looking forward to more. Lee Se-young is so funny, and Joseon-era Bae In-hyuk was the cutest 🥹

Twinkling Watermelon: (through ep 7) Cheong-ah and Yi-chan are so sweet 🥰 Watching slowly to enjoy the journey ❤️

C-dramas
-- Finished Joy of Life! I binged the last sixteen episodes as the plot dominoes started to fall into place. Reveals were expertly crafted, layer upon layer, like a conspiracy sandwich. A couple of realllly big reveals in ep. 46 means season 2 can't come fast enough! Now I understand all the comments I've read.... how could they leave a cliffhanger like that??? HOW??? Such a cool drama!! Highly recommend!

-- Finished Ancient Detective as an antidote to Joy of Life withdrawal. It was pretty awesome. A stylish, cool wuxia/mystery combo, with a bit of romance! Good production values, and I really liked the action choreography and fast moving plot. The ML is a sweet detective with amnesia, the SML is a sweet martial artist, and the FLs are part of an assassin sect. Cool duels and action in every episode. The background music is also quite good - I recognized some themes from Joy of Life. The first ep has a martial arts tournament, and it keeps up the pace from there. But ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER ENDING, DANGIT. Still recommend, though!! (@lapislazulii if you can find it, I think you might like it!)

-- Paused/Dropped Ancient Love Poetry at ep. 12 because I was promised epic romance and angst, but it's soooo slooow (*and kind of boring*). Sigh. Maybe I'll come back to it later?

COMPLETED
My Dearest Part 2 - Amnesia 2.0! At least our leads got their happily ever-after. But what about Ryang-eum?! I think the show fell short of the greatness that seemed possible in the first half but it still had some truly memorable and impactful scenes.

ONGOING
Strong Girl Nam-soon - They should have just named the show Strong Villain Ryu Si-o and rolled with it.

Perfect Marriage Revenge - The boardroom scene was super satisfying. More MILs like Lee Mi-sook please!

Castaway Diva - Still on pause…

The Matchmakers - Those notes and that ending - Jung-woo ended up being more self-aware than I expected! This show is a lot of fun.

A Good Day to Be a Dog - Yul was the star of the episode as always but the crush thing was unnecessary imo.

Vigilante - Once again Jo Heon and Jiyong together were the highlight. Show crams SO much story into each week that it feels hard to care for some of these characters.

Moon in the Day - Some fairly rational conversations this week! I knew Min-oh's obsession with his brother would lead him astray.

Castaway Diva (Episode 7-8) - Mood: C-
So, the show used Chae Jong Hyeop’s smile to make me forgive it this week, smart one. Because what in the world was the combination of the Stairwell of Truth + Noble Idiocy + Love Triangle Bait + Noble Idiocy Pt. 2 arcs? Well, at least we had McDonald’s PPL instead of Subways PPL? To be honest, I’m not vibing with any of the narrative arcs right now. Oh well.

Perfect Marriage Revenge (Episode 7-8) - Mood: C
Oh wow, I always felt that the show kinda lost some of the magical spark that it had in its premiere week and I wondered if I was simply losing interest, but this week’s episodes delivered so much tea sipping and wig snatching! I’m not sure if there’ll be enough time to address time travel but the pacing has been so fast that anything’s possible. Yet it might very well crash.

A Good Day to Be a Dog (Episode 7) - Mood: D+
This is what you start the 2nd half of the show on? Dragging out the dog reveal so that random new villains can use it? The past arc is still at a standstill with the 2ML being given nothing? And don’t get me started on making Yul crush on Hae Na: I would absolutely hate it if that develops in any bit? Now I’m thinking about the inevitable boring damsel nonsense and sigh.

Vigilante (Episode 5-6) - Mood: D+
It’s a pity since most shows don’t often feature a protagonist working alongside their copycat but it’s hard to like the drama when it does as what most mediocre shows have done before it and just build a Big Evil Villain up for the climax. Ironically, I am most interested in finding out what Ji Yong’s friend has been up to but I think he could wound up dead during the finale.

MY DEMON (Ep. 1)
Heh this is fun! I’m loving our leads! Stories featuring deities, demons and other supernatural creatures always interest me, as they exist and operate outside the realm of human possibility and morality

A TIME CALLED YOU (Ep. 1-12)
I liked this well enough, but the twists were more engaging than the romance. Ahn Hyo-seop and Jeon Yeo-bin had zero romantic chemistry in my opinion. Instead I felt Ahn Hyo-seop had more chemistry with Ro-woon, even with the little screen time they had together. I’d actually love for both them to star in an another drama where they are the OTP. (Sidenote I finally get to say I watched a Ro-woon drama this year, yes it’s only a cameo but it still counts!)

Jeon Yeo-bin’s performance tho, was amazing. Her portrayal of Min-ju had me floored. The ending where she’s at breaking point, was incredibly heartbreaking to watch

MASK GIRL (Ep. 1-7)
I’m actually embarrassed to say I watched this. I’m actually more embarrassed to say I finished it. This show is easily the worst goddamn show I saw all year. If I could unwatch it I would. Look I initially thought this drama was a critique on how men feel entitled to women’s bodies. Nooooope. I was wrong. Dead wrong. Save yourself seven hours and skip this one.

The Matchmakers: This show is beautiful and funny and poignant and great. Our villainess is a great and complicated character where I didn’t even know to look for one. When she found out that our heroine was sneaking out of the house, I expected the situation to blow up right away. But since then what we’ve had instead is a series of great moments between mother- and daughter-in-law, and MIL stepping up to right a wrong committed by a member of her own faction even when it weakens their power. Keep it coming, please!

A Good Day to be a Dog: And the award for having the guts to admit affection for someone goes to… absolutely no one. Except for Yul, when he was pretending to be Hae-na’s boyfriend for an afternoon. I know Yul was very depressed when he saw them, but I thought the photobooth pictures were totally adorable.

Castaway Diva: Ki-ho’s secret is out and it’s every bit as good as I was hoping it would be. And that confession is going on my list of most memorable confessions ever. I’ve already watched it like a million more times.

Live Your Own Life
Still no turning point in Hyoshim's family, even a random police officer knows that they should be nicer to Hyoshim. At least we are getting more of Taeho (and his banmal slips and American ways 😁) and Taemin upgraded his hairstyle and got smexier.

Perfect Marriage Revenge
I think I'm enjoying every second of it, even if it is Evil Stepmom preparing Very Suspicious Pills (in a gorgeous dress, of course). The highlight is still Lee Mi Sook and I can't wait for her lines (and dresses) this weekend.

A Bad Day to Be A Third Wheel
Yul, I love you and you are such a sweet boy... and I'm sorry that your third-wheeling made me burst into laughing. 😄

Unpredictable Family
Still mostly sweet and makes me grin.
The main couple is finally together, cute and all. But Second Lead Lady is not cute, instead of accepting the truth (and feelings of our Good Boy Policeman) she is trying to come between the main couple and get the Female Lead fired from work. Her obsession is clouding her mind and her acts may lose her her good name as a team leader.

My Demon
The first episode was funny and entertaining and full of actors I like. Kim Yoojung is amazing and shining and forms a nice duo with Kim Haesuk (ok ok, with Song Kang as well 🙂 ). Just hope the killer will not get too much of the screen time.

From the first scene, I was entranced. What is this (demonic) sorcery??? I feel like I "should" have responded like @missvictrix--that is what I was expecting. But, I like BOTH the ML and the FL? I, of course, love the adoptive mom...and also like the funny human sidekicks? I do get a vague...how to describe it?...Spooky King's Landing vibe. That seems totally from left field, but, anyone else?

ON DECK
I will watch Park's Marriage Contract soon--and will be keeping my eyes peeled for the reports on this very page for all the right ways to think about the premiere before I do. I love MatchMakers so much that I wonder if I should wait on this one. I'm also looking forward to Welcome to Samdal-ri, soon...and these here dramas might be all the remaining beans I have for this year???

The Matchmakers: O Bong, O Bong, O Bong, you masterful snarker. He is the best part of the drama for me. Although Soon Goo and Sam Soon are a close second. She is so adorable and Soon Goo’s subtle reactions to her are so cute. The OTP has moments, but for me the surrounding cast is key.

Moon in the Day: I still continue to oddly enjoy this drama. Everything is so serious. The Silla era clothing is stunning. Everything is so pretty. I have no idea how this is going to end for Doha and Young Hwa. I can’t wait to hear why she finally decided to kill him.

A Good Day to be a dog: This continues to be cute. I am ready for her to tell him the truth now though. I guess next week is the halfway point, so hopefully we will find out then. I want couple cuteness for them.

My Demon: The first episode was fine, but the point was the set up. So I’m looking forward to when it settles into a rhythm. The outfits in this show though are great. KYJ looks great in her outfits, whoever the tailor is did a great job.

The story of Park’s Marriage Contract: Lots of drama here in this one. I enjoyed the backstory. Childhood connection: check, past life connection: check, terminal illness: check, love at firsat sight: check. This is going to be fun.

Vigilante: So, we have new villains and possibly new alliances. Also, Park Kwang Jae is always getting beat up or beating up someone, let the man be a gentle giant. The fights in this are so epic.

Castaway Diva: Unlike some other beanies I am fully in the Ji Ho and Mok Ha ship. They are adorable together. I think they gave us so much Woo Hak so they could play they silly triangle game. However, at the end of the day the drama is more about Mok Ha and Ran Joo than any love triangle. It is about their journey’s to being their best selves and I can root for that. PEB had that in EAW as well, a woman’s journey to bettering herself with love along the way.

CASTAWAY DIVA (E. 7-8) We get many background answers and a heavy dose of noble idiocy this week. Running away from your problems is never a real good solution. But then again, Ki-Ho confronting his Evil Dad is not a very good plan.

The problem is that we are not getting either Moe-ha’s Castaway or Diva story - - - the series has been sidetracked by side stories. She is bouncing back and forth between the filler arcs without any character development.

GOOD DAY TO BE A DOG (Ep 7): Even bottles of soju cannot break the shyness barrier between Hae-Na and Seo-Won. The supporting cast continues to shine, especially Mom and Yul, as their family dinner meeting was the highlight of the episode. But all the side high jinks are just delaying The Moment. It seems all the side stories are just here to put off Hae-Na’s dog kiss curse confession to Seo-Won.

First off. A petition to drama gods to spread the releases. My weekends are choked and nothing is happening during my weekdays.

Live Your Own Life - So they finally drove Hyo-shim into the cage of a money lender 🤦🏽‍♂️. I thought the man she called was her dad.
Aspiring actress Jung Mi-rim's character took a nosedive the moment she lost her senses and began fawning about a-hole Hyo-jun just because he successfully directed some short plays. And this is especially annoying cause while she took an hearsay and believed it, he scoffed at the complementary card introducing Mi-rim as a partner at a prestigious law firm. I don't know what the writer is trying to here but if last week was an attempt at showing me that this annoying, dependent on his younger sister's hard earned money yet being the most prick, unappreciative, very unthankful man and member of a mostly unthankful family unit is actually useful in some aspects...they're doing a very good job of eliciting the opposite reaction from me.

Hyo-shim had the chance to let hell loose on all her siblings and her mom, Hyo-sung included and the writer decided to blow it all away🤦🏽‍♂️.

Goryeo-Khitan War - Mokjong's death shocked me. It came too early. It was the very next scene after Gang Jo's coup.
Killing Kim Chi-yang? ✅. But threatening Daeryangwon? Absolute nope.
I'm looking forward to Gang Gam-chan's rise in the court, and the Goryeo-Khitan War. The war had better serve a semblance to Iron Empress in this aspect. I don't want to watch another repeat of the war situation Joseon faced in My Dearest.

My Dearest - It ended. Yes, it ended. I had very critical comments about this part 2 of the drama. They separated the leads for unnecessary reasons for far too long. And, it seems like they took a large Sohyeon's ideology and principles that he developed over his time in Qing and put in Jang-hyun so it was like I was watching CP Sohyeon through Jang-hyun instead of watching CP Sohyeon through CP Sohyeon. And for his Crown Princess, Lady Kang, I was very pissed each time they addressed her as Thief Kang.
@alathe thanks for leaving out Injo's death scene from the recaps. It was very satisfying to note.

I look forward to seeing Lee Chung-ah and Choi Moo-sung in something better. MD might have been a wonderful drama, but in my eyes, it wasn't for them both.

Nam Goongmin and Ahn Eun-jin really did their best to make this work. They were the selling point of this drama and they remained so, even though a 10 years time apart was thrown between thanks to the convenient designs of amnesia, they kept on selling the drama.

It is not easy to play a character that's unlikeable for most of the series. Lee Hak-joo and Ji Seung-hyun did well here. Yeon-jun pissed me off almost every scene he was in. He really was a pitiful character who lacked spine. Unlike his wife who although lacked strength had a great strength of character, grit and candor. Eun-ae leaving...

My Dearest, pt 2: 5.0 They tried so hard to be historical/meaningful/profound while telling us about how horrible a certain period of Korean history was, and pointing out a dark side of Confucianism. All that is worth knowing about, but they beat us over the head with it rather too long and neglected to make the show fun. Also, amnesia is a card you can only play once. #gonewiththemind

Goryeo Kitan War: 7.9 Not a great show, but at least they keep things moving - a nice change from so many other shows. But with 32 episodes I assume they will have to spin their wheels and add lots of filler eventually.

Strong Girl Nam-soon: 5.1

Castaway Diva: 8.0 Ep 7: Guess I'll have to buy some eggs next time I'm at the supermarket. Ep 8 was a bit of a letdown.

My Demon A Good Day to Be My Dearest Strong Castaway Demon in the Day?: 8.5 Some really fun lines in between all the tropes... and it looks like Kim Yoo-jung might not be playing Kim Yoo-jung this time :)
Demonic tropes include a blind date, an orphan, paying someone to break up with someone, falling over a cliff and sinking into the bottomless depths just a few feet from shore... No amnesia or childhood connection yet, but I have my doubts about the whole "orphan" bit. It's a kdrama, so...

Park's Marriage Contract: 8.0 It's like someone wandered off the set of Matchmakers and landed here. Worse things have happened. Like dropping dead right after your wedding -- where have we seen that recently? And if that's so common, no wonder Koreans are staying single or getting married later.

The Dog Show: cute cute cuuuttee!! 💕

My Demon: obsessed already, premiere is A++ in my eyes

Wonderland of Love (C-drama): second half getting a little repetitive with plot points but still solid nevertheles, this Xu Kai character is going to be my most favourite of his roles yet I think!

Castaway Diva: feels like this just started, how is it already the second last week 😭

Played the sport 'extreme fast forwarding' with the C-drama Love is Panacea. Literally only watched it for Leo Luo.

Resumed watching Under The Queen's Umbrella with my mum again! Can't get over how good it is still.

Leads finally confessed, there was cuteness, cheese and cringe. Cant get over the ML's mother making ML and SFL go to his bedroom to talk, when she visits to see how he is doing. So inappropriate. SFL is acting completely deranged right now and I am glad she got caught out. FL going noble idiot is prolly going to let SFL off the hook and FL fired. GAH. SFL absolutely doesnt deserve FL's brother, but looks like thats how this will end up. Double GAH.

The FL is weird. If she acted like this irl, she wouldve been ghosted by guys before she can say "I'll pursue you".

The matchmakers continue to be my only joy for the week but I think The Story of Park's Marriage Contract will share that spot.

Perfect Marriage Revenge: Only four episodes left! The first eight really zipped by and I have high expectations for the remaining quartet. Still plenty to do on the OTP's agenda. I hope they prove the best revenge is living well.

The Matchmakers: So much heart in this fusion sageuk. The number of charming couples rivals a historical C-drama. The stakes have been elevated by the cliff plunge and ML's realization of his feelings. Fingers crossed the assassination plot and the murder investigation work to bring our fave characters together without costing them their lives. 

The Dog Show: Need to catch up, but perhaps being able to watch episodes back-to-back won't be such a bad thing.

Moon in the Day: I appreciate this show the most when it's funny, even if sometimes the humor is unintentional. Do Ha's intentions toward Young-hwa have switched from "kill her" to "protect her." And she's fated to die before her 30th birthday. The drama! 

Plus two more weekend marriage contract dramas getting started? Help! There's not enough time.

Ongoing with some delightful options:

* PMR - need I say more? I’m eagerly awaiting each new episode and am already half mourning when this will be over. Such a surprisingly awesome show! Love, love, love the MIL.

* THE MATCHMAKERS continues to be beautiful. Cannot recommend this drama enough. PDs of Memorials/Into the Ring, actors, whole crew really bringing their best here.

* started PARK’S MARRIAGE CONTRACT and it’s looking delicious already. Trying to keep the show separate in my brain from others with - ehm - quite similar plot points. But I’m in, even though the scene where the palace guards burned the clothes had me boiling with rage for many reasons.

* HYENA - dug this out of Netflix’ offerings and am flabbergasted how I could ignore this when it aired?!?! Must repeat praises for the good acting, the awesome cast, the chemistry… what’s not to love?

Kinda dropped MOON IN THE DAY, for it wasn’t gripping enough. Enjoying the awesome screen captures and GIFs on the fan wall to see the best moments.

Moon in the day. OMG! Do Ha can smile!!!! I knew Kim Young Dae has more than one face expression! Jokes aside, I like how our leads are getting a better idea of who each other is. The rest? Stupid and selfish ex-girlfriend, crazy ex-CEO, obsessed brother… don’t get me started.

Castaway diva. Still loving it, knowing I will be sort of disappointed in the next episodes.

Perfect Marriage Revenge. I was not surprised I liked a little less these last two episodes, but still finding it too funny.

The story of Park’s marriage contract. I really liked episode one. As always Seyoung is a delight to watch.

Planning to try My demon, although missvictrix comment has already making me wonder if it’s worth it (maybe it is because I never watched Nevertheless???), and determined to resume My dearest while trying to avoid all kind of spoilers.

Moon in the Day (8/14) - everyday I scream at God, yet He refuses to end my suffering.

The Matchmakers (7/16) - Rowoon is so cute as a completely whipped nerd in love. Cho Yi-hyun is acting really well (I love her voice!). there’s a lot of obstacles in their way, but I can’t wait for them to get together. Youngest sister and police oppa kinda stealing the show rn tho.

A Good Day to be a Dog (7/14) - eps. 5-6 had so much charm, and even improved some plot points from the webtoon. Ep. 7, however, was really draggy imo and made some questionable choices. hopefully, my wholesome doggy drama becomes wholesome again soon.

Ya Boy Kongming (4/10) - I can watch a hot older man from the 3 Kingdoms period drop some fire bars all day 🔥🔥🥶🥶 drama gods, thanks for the casting choices

Ishiko and Haneo (4/10) - Arimura Kasumi and Nakamura Tomoya’s bickering siblings type chemistry is the main draw. I also really like how the story deconstructs the trope of an uber-competent male lawyer, ala ODL; many of the cases are won bc of the FL (a talented woman propping up an incompetent man? impossible!). I love the character development, as they both gain confidence in their abilities each ep.

My Demon : I feel the same as @missvictrix, I’m not in the mood for another kdrama theology. Put that aside, the rest of the premiere actually better than my expectation. It’s good enough to keep me wanting to watch the next episode. Suprisingly enough, I found Song Kang’s acting a lot more engaging than Kim Yoo Jung’s. He is so much better than all his previous works I’d watched. Kim Yoo Jung on other hand, for me, she doesn’t deliver. I don’t feel her character (yet, hopefully).

The Matchmakers : I really want to feel the fun other beanies shared while watching this one, but I don’t know why, I just don’t find the show interesting.

Castaway Diva : Just give me a lot more banter between Mok Ha and Ki Ho and I’ll be keep forgiving all the unimportant conflicts and unnecessary tropes.

Castaway Diva: A whirlwind of emotions as we finally see Ran-joo stepping aside for Mok-ha's debut and her moments of true sincerity and maturity, Kiho's reveal and the lead-up to it, the Kang family being more wonderful than ever, the fate of the seagull's eggs, and Ki-ho about to confront evil dad.

The Matchmakers : I guffawed and giggled my way through episode 7. The drama packs a lot of punch and cheekiness in every minute- whether it be the scripting or the camerawork or the acting (including the gems of side characters reacting - looking at you, Footman Oh Bong!).

Moon in the Day: Slowly losing me, though the drama is different and odd enough that I want to see what they want to do next. Seems like they're making things up as they go along.

Daily Dose of Sunshine (up to ep 6) Thoughtful and at times, a really fun, watch. I like the variations and intensity differences and visibility differences of various illnesses. Nurse guy is my favorite.

Live Your Own Life: Have we hit rock bottom yet so we can really get to the heroine living her own life?

Joy of Life (up to ep 45) I've been watching this for months and even at episode 45, I feel like the momentum is still going. Fan Xian always comes through like a breath of fresh air even when dealing with serious political stuff. Planning to get my snacks ready to enjoy the finale.

My Dearest 2: The ending was so beautiful it made me forget some of my frustrations with part 2. (Plus, the release of the additional 9 minutes yesterday really helped to resolve most of them.) A stunning, memorable series.

The Matchmakers: Still loving this. The production quality is so high, and all the little details and nuances in the direction really make it a joy to watch.

Strong Girl Namsoon (last 2 eps this weekend): Sigh. This has really fallen apart. So much wasted potential. Ready for it to be over.

Castaway Diva: I'm enjoying this well enough but I had higher hopes. The story and characters feel clunky to me. Ah well. The OST continues to be fantastic.

Park's Marriage Contract: Just when I thought they couldn't make historical costumes any more creatively gorgeous (did you notice that melon colored hanbok Sam Soon was wearing in The Matchmakers?!!) -- along comes PMC. The dialogue and pacing so far are tight and snappy. Love the chemistry, love the storyline, ready to enjoy this new series!

My Demon: I liked but didn't love the first episode. Let's just see what happens with episode 2.
