Symphonies and secrets in Maestra – Strings of Truth

tvN’s upcoming mystery Maestra: Strings of Truth has released its second teaser, spotlighting our enigmatic heroine Lee Young-ae (Inspector Koo). Her music may create harmony, but the inner workings of the orchestra are less than harmonious, and someone’s about to strike some very discordant notes.

The teaser opens with an introduction to the new conductor and music director Cha Se-eum (Lee Young-ae), who rose to fame as a violinist. Conductors are in such short supply that you could practically count them all on your fingers, and women make up barely five percent of that small pool — which makes Se-eum’s achievements all the more laudable. She’s poised to bring the Han River Philharmonic Orchestra to greater heights.

Then Lee Moo-saeng (The Glory) throws a wrench in the works. As the wealthy finance CEO Yoo Jung-jae, he announces that he’s bought over the orchestra, to which Se-eum retorts, “Is this interesting to you?” It isn’t clear what game Jung-jae is trying to play just yet, but the title cards hint at impending turmoil: The one who shakes up the orchestra, and the one who shakes up the maestra.

Se-eum has skeletons in her closet that she’s been trying her hardest to hide, and they’re about to come to light. As a conductor’s baton falls, a window shatters, and screams echo in the background as someone accuses: “That woman is the culprit.” Still, Se-eum won’t go down without a fight. “You should have done a proper job,” Se-eum sneers, despite her injuries, “if you were trying to kill me.”

Those are certainly fighting words, and I’m excited to see Se-eum bare her claws. Jung-jae doesn’t seem to have any qualms getting on her bad side, though it’s still unclear whether the others around her are friend or foe. Will her doting yet insecure husband Kim Young-jae (Numbers) take her side, and will her talented young protége Hwang Boreumbyeol (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse) follow in her footsteps? And will Se-eum be able to lead the orchestra towards a rousing crescendo of applause?

Helmed by PD Kim Jung-kwon (Love to Hate You) with scripts written by Choi Yi-yoon and Hong Jung-hee, Maestra: Strings of Truth is slated for a December 9 premiere.

Same. 😀 I was little iffy before, even though I like dramas where leads are musicians or music is a large part of the plot. The teaser is definitely on the money. Color me intrigued.

Oh no, is this a Korean version of Tár? Yikes, I really hope not with every fiber of my being. It doesn't look like it 100% but there are hints from this description and these stills. Ugh really no. Unless it's totally unrecognizable, like Little Women or even Inspector Koo, which I loved.
