Listening to Jung Woo-sung’s quiet world in ENA’s melodrama

With the flurry of fantasies and thrillers bringing in plenty of excitement to our current dramascape, it’s a nice change of pace to let our eyeballs slow down, taking time to pause and reflect in the latest promos for ENA’s Tell Me That You Love Me.

As a remake of the similarly titled 1995 Japanese series, Jung Woo-sung (Fly Dragon) plays our Cha Jin-woo, a hearing-impaired artist who speaks to the world through his art. But before we greet him in the new teaser, the introductory text screen has a request for the audience: “Please pay attention just for a moment.”

In the sequence, our hero explains his guarded nature: “Because I cannot hear approaching footsteps, it’s crucial for me to keep a safe distance from others.” Still, he can’t help but feel drawn to our heroine Jung Mo-eun – played by Shin Hyun-bin (Reborn) – an actress who understands how to listen with her heart.

We then watch as love blooms between our leads through a series of cute fumbles, including Mo-eun’s “confession” of her feelings which she mistakenly said through sign language instead of “conversation.” Cue the embarrassing realization.

Mo-eun honestly admits, though, that she sometimes forgets that Jin-woo can’t hear and we see how dangerous it can be for our hero when the people around him are unaware of his impairment. The teaser then closes as we catch a glimpse of the story’s main characters and the appearing captions read: “Even if you can’t hear, can’t speak, or use a different language, anyone can love.”

In supportive roles, the melodrama also stars Lee Jae-kyun (Song of the Bandits), Park Jin-ju (Critical X), Shin Jae-hwi (Moving), and Kim Ji-hyun (D.P. 2) among other talents.

Written by Kim Min-jung (Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, The Sound of Magic) with PD Kim Yoon-jin (Our Beloved Summer) at the helm, Tell Me That You Love Me will be airing in ENA’s Monday-Tuesday slot, premiering next week on November 27.

This drama also stars 🌟 our resident Beanie @welh640 who on the trip to Seoul chanced to walk into the filming location.
Thanks to our detective Beanie @panshel we were able to identify the drama being filmed.
Now Beanies have to identify exactly what scene welh was in? 👏
Yes this is an indirect way to say - please watch the drama with your detective hat ON!!

Jung Woo-sung, my childhood crush. WB to dramaland.
I hope this writer's primary focus is split evenly between the two leads, not just the male lead.

This looks great. I started the original but picture quality was bad and they had annoying female character in the early episodes who was a key character. Those kind of characters frustrate me too much to continue watching a drama if they play too big a part. I hope they change that bit of the story in this version because the trailer makes it look quite sweet.

Since I’m watching CALL IT LOVE right now, I don’t think I have it in me to watch another snail-paced slooooooow drama at the moment. But at least the visuals look brighter and more colorful than CALL IT LOVE’s bleak colour-palette.

I love a slow paced drama but I agree they need to be staggered to get the full benefit of the scenery, dialogue and storyline.

Small doses go a long way. Two such dramas simultaneously us a definite no-no.

I'm watching Call it love too (14 out of 16). It's a good drama, but painfully slow and monotonous, especially halfway of the show.

I only finished CiL for Sung Joon's character and the brother. Everything else was painfully slow and boring. For me, to say that about any show starring Kim Young Kwang is bad.

Totally agree. At least we have Sung Joon (the pharmacist is my favorite character).

I’m so relieved to find I’m not the only one who was NOT enamored with CALL IT LOVE. Everyone else kept raving on about it. Anyway, I chuck it up to taste. Guess I’m not a huge fan of melos, I did absolutely love Kim Young Kwang’s pitiful character, Han Don Jin. The guy just kept on getting bad luck after bad luck, especially because of his godawful witch of a mom.

I finished it yesterday and I liked the last episode. It would have been a better drama without that horrible mom, she was insufferable. But then I guess that would have been a different story.

Sung Joon’s character and little bro were definitely the highlights, I enjoyed it for them. I also loved Kim Young Kwan’s character, such a kind and considerate man who had so much shit thrown his way, poor guy🥺

I came to enjoy Woo Jo’s Big Sister’s friendship with the pharmacist as well. I loved how he gently let her know that her younger lover was just not it and not because of the age gap.

It is an acquired taste. Timing and one's own frame of mind are important factors in determining enjoyment of such dramas. 🤔

I have never been in that frame of mind for the past 15 years 😄 and I keep watching them for my favorite actors, and keep being disappointed.

I was exactly like that for a very very long time. This is an idea I have been implementing only recently for my own peace of mind. I have been reminding myself to respect my emotional boundaries and just have FUN. It has given me the wherewithal to drop dramas too, whenever it is uncomfortable or worse boring. 🤣

@seeker Oh make no mistake! I'm a pro at dropping shows. The only reason I finished CIL was because of Sung Joon who has been a favorite of mine for a decade but rarely in roles that I like, the dongsaeng's interesting storyline, and, ahem, KYK's physique.😁 3 valid reasons, right?
Of course if the show was in any way infuriating no reason would have been enough. But it was only boring.

5

Ah! I'm still "learning" the fine art of dropping shows but I'm getting better at it. Lol.

‘Painfully slow’ is the right word.

I finally did, yesterday. I stayed for Kim Young Kwang, never knew I’d come to love him this much. This is the first non-jerk role of his that I’m watching, and IT’S SUCH A SURPRISE!!❣️
