Premiere Watch: Evilive
by missvictrix
Time slot: Saturday-Sunday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Crime, noir, thriller
Episode count: 10
Reasons to watch: ENA and Genie TV bring their A-game to the Saturday-Sunday slot with dark noir Evilive and a super duper exciting lineup of Shin Ha-kyun, Kim Young-kwang, and Shin Jae-ha. Yeah, I wish this was a slice-of-life healing drama instead, but we have to take what we get: Kim Young-kwang is a powerful crime boss about to be released from prison, and Shin Ha-kyun is a lawyer who gets pulled into his web. Don’t let that sexy gaze fool you: the premise is based on evil and villainy — and the drama’s promotions have crafted a pitch-perfect taste of what that’s going to look like. Don’t say they didn’t warn you.
TL;DR: Sexy-but-terribly-evil Kim Young-kwang brings Shin Ha-kyun to the dark side

Genocide and war crimes in the real world, villainy and then some in the KDs. Ya*, KYK, couldn’t you find another exciting and challenging role which didn’t involve making me want to take my memories of “Call it love” and head for the hills?
* Credit to @bbstl who inspired me with her apt usage of this wonderful Korean word. We don’t use it often enough on DB and me thinks we should. Even though it is only used in informal speech, we can hopefully all agree not to take offense at its usage among us!

This looks like it will be better than The Worst of Evil in the "noir" department.

Sigh ... we all know how good both Shin Ha-kyun and Kim Young-kwang are when they are bad.

I like Kim Young Kwang but still deliberating if I will watch this. I guess I will wait for initial reviews first before I start this. In my opinion, crime noir are better for binge watching. So we shall see ...

Recent dramaland crime noir offerings have been a hit-or-miss so I’m skeptical about rushing in head first without reviews. That said, I already know the acting will be fantastic because these men have not missed in that category before. What remains to be seen is the writing.
