Kim Ro-woon and Jo Yi-hyun join hands in The Matchmakers

Another teaser has dropped for KBS’s upcoming sageuk romantic-comedy The Matchmakers featuring its leads Kim Ro-woon (Destined With You) and Jo Yi-hyun (All of Us Are Dead). Both are widowed at early ages, and though re-marriage might not be in the cards for them, their current marital status won’t stop them from helping others get hitched.

The latest teaser opens with “Wedding March” as Shim Jung-woo (Kim Ro-woon) and Jung Soon-deok (Jo Yi-hyun) make their entrances. Jung-woo declares that he has been writing marriage-related appeals for the last eight years, and Soon-deok calls herself the god of matchmaking. What happens then when a “pro annulment appealer” and a “god of matchmaking” cross paths? Hopefully lots of cute hijinks.

With a smile on her face and sparkles around her head, Soon-deok stretches and says that the weather is great for matchmaking. On the other hand, Jung-woo glares into the camera with a glint in his eye and seems overconfident in his abilities to play matchmaker.

Right off the bat, our two leads appear to be at odds as Jung-woo blocks Soon-deok’s path, and she curses him under her breath. However, the tides turn as Jung-woo finds himself moving away from Soon-deok and asking why she keeps getting closer. Pushing her with his finger, Jung-woo tells her to leave his side, and in response, Soon-deok grabs his leg.

The teaser then plays a quick sequence of Jung-woo and Soon-deok together from a trope-reversal of the falling into her arms to the classic accidental hand-touch. As Jung-woo bends down to look Soon-deok in the eyes, she states, “To summarize, the time frame is two months, and the entire process will be done with you, sir.” The teaser then ends with Jung-woo yelling, “This is where you end it? How evil!!!!”

Written by Ha Soo-jin (Sell Your Haunted House) and co-directed by PDs Hwang Seung-gi (Memorials) and Kim Soo-jin (Nineteen Otters), KBS’s The Matchmakers premieres on October 30 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

I feel sure I’ll tune in to this eventually, but in the short term I am preferring to take a moment to enjoy Rowoon‘s turn as Jang Mu-Jin in the sageuk-flashbacks from Destined with You…the scenes are shot beautifully.

Between My Dearest and Kithan War (or something like this), it looks very light and fun (kinda cheap too 😅) But I really like the writer who did Sell Your Haunted House and both PDs.

This might be too much Rowoon too soon - and in addition to the gats, samos, and whatever the reverse-conehead thing is called, other stills show him wearing the all-time champion of silly Joseon headgear. I may not be able to block enough of my screen to get through this. I need to save my gat-ability for My Dearest.

Oh God, that is just too funny. I have been laughing with tears after seeing that...headgear thing! Thanks, Elinor!
Without hurting too many beannies that like him, it's his lips that I need to block to watch him and I am not able to do so.

Hmmm, I feel like while FL's styling is pretty good by itself, it does not look good ON HER. Honestly, she looks like a kid dressed in her mom's best clothes, and that heavy make up only solidifies the impression. Perhaps that's a plot point and she got married and widowed very young? Not unusual for the era we're talking about, but there is supposed to be a timeskip between her failed marriage and drama's timeline since she managed to build herself a reputation of a famous matchmaker along the line, and such things ain't happen overnight, you know. Plus it totally doesn't help that RW finally grew out of his baby boy phase (DWY is a proof) and looks like a man - sure, a young one, but clearly an adult, cherry blossom pink hanbok notwithstanding. Mismatched pairing to me - visually, at least. Probably will try the pilot to see if acting will improve things, but somehow doubt it.

I hadn’t looked closely at Jo Yihyun’s pics for this drama until you mentioned it. She does look like a child in them. Let’s wait and see but this might not be worth watching.

I assume that stylists tried to age her up with all those bold colors, but it ended up giving the opposite impression. And there's really not much one can do about actress still having baby fat very prominent in her features, esp her side profile... You're right, maybe she will be able to overcome all that with her performance, like equally baby faced KHY did in that ROYAL INSPECTOR something drama with Taec.

But still, kdrama casting carousel keeps being ridiculous. Here's a pretty young girl who has perfect visuals to do many youth dramas, but instead she's playing a mature "seen it all" widow while actors who are around 30 and look very much their real age continue embarrassing themselves in unconvincing teenage roles.

Age appropriate roles are such a rarity in K-dramaland.

At times it does become confusing because even actors in their 30s look so young - no thanks to makeup and filters. 🤣

As someone who looks decade+ away from my real age I cannot judge them for that. But those who aren't like that - what are you even thinking, folks? Buy yourself a better mirror, if your current one is being a liar!)))
