Park Eun-bin goes from fangirl to friend in Castaway Diva

A cute new teaser has been released for tvN’s upcoming Castaway Diva, giving us another look at our aspiring singer heroine Park Eun-bin (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and the sisterly friendship she forges with her role model Kim Hyo-jin (The Good Detective 2).

Opening on the deserted island where our resourceful Seo Mok-ha (Park Eun-bin) was stranded for 15 years, we watch as she begins another day with resolve, turning her island lemons into the best lemonade. We then jump to singer Yoon Ran-joo who thinks back to when she faced a different but also difficult isolation in her life.

Ran-joo explains that, “Just when I was thinking if I should end it all, that’s when you [Mok-ha] appeared.” In the sequence, we see the ardent Mok-ha showing genuine concern and being the best spirited fangirl – and friend – that Ran-joo could have asked for.

Hand-in-hand, the two support each other in chasing their dreams anew and the appearing text screens announce that the top optimist Mok-ha and the top sensitive Ran-joo are taking on the challenge of reversing the gears in their lives.

Celebrating with a pajama party and drinks, Mok-ha encourages Ran-joo to push down on the accelerator by leaning on her and the teaser ends our sisterly pair as they declare their victory over their opponents.

Just say Park Eun-bin and I’m already on board, but it’s hard not to get excited with the added bonus of healing friendships and second chances in the story. Now that promos are in full swing, I expect will soon get our peek at co-stars Chae Jong-hyeop (Unlock the Boss), Cha Hak-yeon (Joseon Attorney), and Kim Joo-hun (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3) as well.

In their third project together after While You Were Sleeping and Start Up, production is being led by PD Oh Chung-hwan and writer Park Hye-ryun, who are joined this time by writer Eun Yeol. Slated to air in the weekend slot following Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun, tvN’s Castaway Diva premieres on October 28.

Even though I can suspend my disbelief for a while while watching dramas with time travel, aliens, past lives, super powers, magical beings, etc, I’m not sure I can do that with a castaway spending 15 years on an island whilst still having such good skin. Maybe she also managed to make old school skin care products?

Ah, but the cosmetics industry sells us a bill of goods on 99% of what they’re offering…and she’s probably found some coconuts for their oil. No chapped, dry, or flaky skin for our castaway!!

It certainly does. I thought of coconuts but if lucky, papayas as well.

Maybe some shea seeds had washed up from Africa and she made some butter from them. I'm not sure how you do that, though. (Do you churn them?)

I wonder how it is made too? But for PEB, this is likely to be a stinker. I hope I will get to eat my own words.
Btw, since Elinor always changes her username in creative ways, I thought you could use “hacjima” as a play on “Don’t do it” in informal Korean!😂

She is so fun to watch, and I love her to pieces, but I'm not feeling the castaway or the diva.

I agree. Though, I would love to change my view down the line because it is her.

The premise was over-the-top ridiculous from the get-go, no amount of good acting can save it. 15 years, really? She'd likely forget all the human language and manners during the time, not to mention the sky high risk of going irreversibly crazy. They'd better to play the whole thing as non-seriously as possible so we can just ignore this plot point completely like some bad joke/fever dream once it's over.

Do you think she will decorate and name a big coconut (like Tom Hanks with the ball) and have imaginary convos with it?
I suggest Pororo as its name?

I'm super later with this reply, but she'd indeed better to have someone (or something) to help her keep her sanity intact during all those years. I'd be the last person to doubt the power of kpop, but just singing her favorite bangers (or is she more into weepy ballads?) non-stop for the half of her life wouldn't quite cut it in this case, psychologically speaking.

@Gikata:
Don’t worry. It shows you have a life!

I thought so too. Hardly anyone could quickly integrate back into a society after such a rare and presumably traumatic incident. If that is trivialised/sped up, it would become probably the most unbelievable aspect of the drama.

I hope they push hard on the “fish out of water” with her return, like how behind she is on tech and cultural developments and even slang. There could be a lot of humor there 🤞🏼

I don't care much for some mainstream writers. Eun-bin earned her success through the recognition of lesser-known writers who recognized her talent, not simply because of her current popularity.

I’m really looking forward to this. Early promos didn’t center the friendship, but it’s looking more and more like it will be the main part of the story and I couldn’t be happier about that! Now if we could just get CJH’s perfect smile in the next round of promos…

Oh, I see. This is going to be a “cute-off” (like a dance-off) between Park Eun-bin and Chae Jong-hyeop.

Who’s gonna be more adorbs? Whose smile is gonna be more electric? Who will win our heart over more completely?

Watch it that in the next promo, it turns out that CJH plays a real jerk…Can he even do that??

I will watch anything Park Eun-bin is in. I will believe 6 impossible things before breakfast if I have to. Noble savage raised by gorillas, with perfect skin, fitting perfectly into a suit of their father's has been believed before, and that was not even PEB. Bring it on!

How old is the character supposed to be and how old was she when she got stranded? I will just suspend my disbelief and wait for other beanies' reactions. But then there is Chae Jong Hyeop...

I believe she got stranded at the ripe age of 16, so 15 years later she should be around 31.

I will watch Park Eun-bin in anything too. Will it be fun? I'll be there watching to find out. And Chae Jong-hyeop's gonna help me!
