Love is in the air in A Good Day to Be a Dog

MBC’s upcoming fantasy romance A Good Day to Be a Dog is just three-ish weeks away (not that I’m counting) and we’ve been graced with a new poster and stills to tide us over. Notably, the poster is a three-character poster — what feels like a rarity for dramaland. Showcased are our three leads: Park Kyu-young (Celebrity), Cha Eun-woo (Island), and Lee Hyun-woo (Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area).

The breezy springtime poster showcases our teacher-heroine Han Hae-na (Park Kyu-young) gazing oh-so-dreamily at colleague and fellow teacher Jin Seo-won (Cha Eun-woo). For the record, I never had a math teacher that looked like him, but I digress. Looking down from a window above our OTP is Lee Bo-gyeom (Lee Hyun-woo), a new history teacher at the school who’s setting all the hearts a-flutter.

Lest the story and setting seem too simple, though, we must remember that our heroine is actually under a generational curse: when kissed, the curse activates, and she’ll be doomed to turn into a [scruffy and adorable] dog each night. I personally think that sounds amazing, but our heroine does not. And when there’s an accidental kiss between her and Seo-won, Hae-na must find a way to break the curse. The clincher is that in order to do so, Seo-won needs to kiss her again in her dog form — all the while, dogs are his Achilles heel (because no man is perfect, let’s face it).

Also complicating matters is our history teacher, who’s so much more than a history teacher. Secretly a mountain spirit, Bo-gyeom arrives on the scene and stirs things up. We catch a cute glimpse of him interacting with Hae-na in the new stills, and I have to say, there might be the rumblings of second lead syndrome in my future.

Directed by PD Kim Dae-woong (Start Up The Engine) and adapted from the webtoon by Baek In-ah, A Good Day to Be a Dog premieres on October 11 in MBC’s new Wednesday-only slot.

Very excited for this!

I promise I'll shut up about the webtoon when this starts coming out, but if it's similar, SLS was not even a remote possibility for me. Keep waiting to see some pics of Jin Seo-won's nephew too!

I read that this is only going to be one episode a week (did I make this up?), like The Killing Vote, which is fine but I'm not loving. We'll see how it works here!

Whoops, it literally says "Wednesday-only slot" right there hahaha! The good news is: I did not did not dream that information. The bad news is: only one episode per week :(

Interesting! I wonder what the reason is for this? Does it save money for the broadcasters or something?

It seems to me that there are more dramas than there are timeslots these days. Maybe this is MBC’s way of wading back into the weekday timeslots without fully committing.

There are some dramas that release both episodes on the same day so let’s hope it is one of those.

Although the dog part of this one might or might not be fantasy--my wife and I kiss our dog's muzzle all the time, but nothing has happened so far--there are two parts of this one that I can personally attest ring true to real life. History teachers are frequently mountain spirits, and they ALWAYS are second lead losers in a love triangle.

But, having said that, this will be the first ever show that I will have second lead syndrome!

@hacja: If I may be presumptuous and based on your comments, you’ve done well in your non-triangled love life so don’t feel too sorry for yourself! As to “history teachers being mountain spirits”, I think I know the exception which makes your use of “frequently” very apt. A near demonic one is more fitting.

I wish the dog could be on the poster too, but I am otherwise thrilled. Eunwoo and Gyuyoung look so lovely together, and Hyunwoo's placement makes perfect sense given his role as [insert plot points yet to be revealed here].

I've lost count of how many times I have read this webtoon and time seems to pass oh so slow while waiting for the drama version

Eunwoo and Gyuyoung's chemistry it's off the charts and just thinking that we are finally getting them together in a drama makes me even more impatient!

Is it October 11 yet??

It was a great sageuk, the more historical version of the Great King Sejong.
We used to call the Mt. Seongheungsan Love Tree, King Sejong's tree because this drama made it famous.

I am captivated by Korea's history, making it easy for me to enjoy a lengthy sageuk drama.

Yes. You'll only see the nonfiction characters from 6FD continue here. Ha, Ryun is pretty old but still sharp and crafty. I don't know how his head remained intact while serving Taejong. LOL

I learned a lot, but I wouldn't watch it again.

I think I have only watched him as the young Yooshin in “Queen Seon Deok”. I remember him perfectly.

Yes, both Lee Hyun-woo and Nam Ji-hyun were cast in QUEEN SEON-DEOK after the writers saw them in KStG.

I am so excited for this drama. Can't wait for 11th Oct. The poster looks so good, cherry blossom, and the lead couple's chemistry is chemistrying. Eunwoo looks so good here.

Wdym, hot math teachers are all rage in kdramas lately - CRAZY LOVE, CRASH COURSE and so on... It almost feels like there is some sort of government order to make the dreaded math seem more attractive in the public's eyes))) With all the respect to CEW and his legendary visuals, boy has a big shoes to fill in this role given who his predecessors were.

P.S. Kinda weird for a romcom poster to not have ANY of the leads looking at each other. Where's trademark for the genre longing gaze?

Some of what the cast said about the drama made it sound like it will be pretty faithful to the webcomic. Assuming that's the case, I look forward to a drama that's just a sweet romantic comedy with no serial killer or murder mystery storylines, just enough angst to keep me interested

There are a few of us on the welcome crew so when we see a name we have not seen for a while or it’s a new beanie stepping out for the first time we like to acknowledge it. The more lurkers actively joining the banter the more fun we all have.

If it's good, its hard not to marathon it, let alone wait for ONE a week. Good means full speed ahead! Hoping it's as good as it sounds. (didn't read the webtoon).
