Kim Young-kwang taunts Shin Ha-kyun in Evilive

Chilling character posters and slick teasers are out for ENA’s 10-episode noir Evilive, setting the mood for what’s to come. Stylish and atmospheric, our first glimpse into the complex minds of these protagonists is certainly an intriguing one.

Acting powerhouse Shin Ha-kyun (Yonder) stars as the opportunistic lawyer Han Dong-soo, whose methods of obtaining cases err on the gray side of morality. Pragmatic and persistent, Dong-soo often prowls the prison to solicit potential clients. His tactics may not be the most conventional, but they’ve served him well. That is, until he meets someone who awakens his inner beast — Dong-soo has been repressing his inner desires, and it’s only a matter of time before he takes his first step into the world of evil. “Experience it yourself — the feeling of being stepped on,” Dong-soo taunts, sporting a spine-chilling grin.

If Dong-soo toes the line, then Kim Young-kwang (Call it Love) simply steps on it. Befitting his position as the second most powerful figure in the mob, Seo Do-young is charismatic and cunning. As blood splatters onto a baseball — a callback to his past as a professional baseball player — Do-young sneers, “Aren’t you tired of always losing?” Interestingly, the word for “line” can also be interpreted as “kindness” or “goodness” — just as Do-young disregards boundaries, he also deems do-gooders as pushovers to crush beneath his feet.

Adding even more intrigue to our main cast, we have Shin Jae-ha (Taxi Driver 2) as little brother Han Beom-jae. He may only be a half-sibling to Dong-soo, but he’s certainly an invaluable assistant, using his computer skills to source for information and broker cases for our unorthodox lawyer. Since we haven’t gotten so much as a glimpse of Beom-jae yet, it’s difficult to tell which side of the line he’ll stand on — but given Shin Jae-ha’s track record, it really could go either way. (And I’m very much excited to find out!)

Helmed by PD Kim Jung-min (Remarriage & Desires) and PD Kim Sung-min, with scripts written by Jung Seo-hee and Lee Seung-hoon, Evilive is slated to premiere on October 14.

I might pass due to personal preference, BUT I would pay the closest of attention to the work of any giffer who might wish to offer tasty morsels of 5-10 second goodness on the Fan Wall for this show…

PS: Is Shin Jae-ha trying to look hot and menacing in that last photo? Or is that sweet and damaged? Or is it “Oh crap, I slipped in the rain and now I’m all muddy, can someone help?” Thoughts from the crowd on this?

I feel like such a simpleton for saying this but I don’t want to soil the memories of “Call it Love” by going anywhere near this. Nope. Nope. Nope

After The Secret Life of My Secretary it was shocking to see him in Somebody. I almost didn't see Call it Love.
The spectrum of this man is amazing.
You are right - we should preserve our precious memories of Dong-jin where even his back acted to well.

I didn't watch Somebody, but a beanie in Call It Love recaps posted even his shirtless back in Somebody acted *so fine.* Of course I went off to view the clip.
I felt terrible about that later. But also not. (Can you objectify a back?) It is a fine back indeed. 😂

I couldn't watch Somebody beyond ep 3 but I too remember that Beanie's comment in Call it Love recaps. Recommending them for a laudatory public service award! That helped us manage our Call it Love angst somewhat!!

Like all others I too went back to Somebody ep 5 to watch some back-to-back action. Yeah! Sorry not sorry!! Very fine back that is!!

😍 🤩 🤣 ☺

For a long time, I had a natural dislike for Kim young Kwang because of his douchebaggy role in Can We Get Married, to the point that I never fully warmed up to him, despite really enjoying D-Day.

I thought I would never like him as a romantic hero until I started watching The Secret Life of My Secretary. Both he and the female lead are adorable so far❣️

So you can imagine my hesitation to watch Call It Love which seemed so melo from the description, Lee Sung Kyung, not withstanding. But I’ve seen mention of it here to be very very interesting now.

@flighteygazelles1 Call It Love is amazing, but it is pretty gosh-darned melo. So, if you’re not into incredibly taut emotions stretched thin over issues of interpersonal conflict…be forewarned.

@flighteygazelles1

Please be forewarned about Call it Love beacuse it will make you CRY, nevertheless do give a try ... also be forearmed with something that makes you feel safe and warm while you watch.

@flighteygazelles1 Seon-ha and Cera are absolutely right. But don’t be put off. You will feel good after all the tears. It’s a healing melo.

3

Absolutely ... it made me think things and I learned about myself a lot while accompanying Dong-jin and Woo-joo on their journey.

I live watched the drama so it was easy on the tears but it may be torturous to binge ... do what makes you feel comfortable.

OMG, now I’m sacred!😰 I’ve still not recovered from the scar that The Red Sleeve Cuff left on me💔

But thank you guys for the warning, I’m going in fully-ish prepared💪🏾🙏🏾

🤦‍♀️

We mean to encourage you not scare you, ha ha.

The dramas these days are trauma inducing!!

Just put it in your watchlist and when the vibe is right ... press ▶️

@flighteygazelles1:
Don’t be put off. ‘TRS” was gut-wrenching and problematic in a number of ways despite some very good acting including by Junho and Lee Seyoung. “CIL” has a sweetheart of a male lead and a stoic and strong female lead who empower each other in a bitter sweet quest to find relief from sorrow and isolation.

@dncingemma
is has expressed it so wonderfully! Also, we will all love to hear your views - so avoid any spoilers and enjoy your weekend!

@flighteygazelles1
To add a contrasting opinion to the mix, CIL was just boring for me. And the ever-changing pink filter extremely irritating. I finished it only because two of the male side characters were very well depicted and acted.

I have found it helps to know different takes when deciding on a new show. Tempers the expectations.

@midnight
Thank you for stiring the pot!

The contrasting opinions are what make DB interactions so much fun.

All art is intrinsically subjective but the different perspectives and opinions help our appreciation of the same.

They had me at “spine-chilling grin” for Shin Ha-kyun. He does them so well. And Kim Young-kwang and Shin Jae-ha coming along as bonuses? Perfect.
