Behind Your Touch: Episodes 13-14
by lovepark
The list of victims increases at an alarming pace as the poncho killer gets closer to our heroes and threatens to upend everything. As our detective and psychic vet start to question everyone around them, it becomes harder to discern the truths from the lies. Even psychometric powers have a limit, and things that once seemed clear to our heroes have become opaque.
EPISODES 13-14
The death of her grandpa leaves a deep wound in Ye-boon’s heart, and as she sends him off, she wallows in regret for never having the courage to try and understand him. Watching her cry, Jang-yeol renews his resolve to catch the killer, and he goes above and beyond his role as a detective to clear her grandpa’s name and make sure Ye-boon is taken care of.
While nearly everyone in town attends Grandpa’s funeral, Sun-woo is noticeably absent, which raises Jang-yeol’s suspicions. As he begins to worry about his top suspect running away, Sun-woo returns and apologizes to Ye-boon for being late (he was out looking for his mom). Though he should be the one to comfort her, instead he receives solace from Ye-boon who assures him that things will get better.
Meanwhile, Gwang-shik investigates the case on his own and discovers that Shaman Park tried to kill Assemblyman Cha. He passes this information to Jang-yeol, but the new detective on the case overhears his statement and immediately arrests Shaman Park. When Ye-boon hears what happened, she rushes to the shaman’s defense, and to convince the rest of Jang-yeol’s team, she reveals her powers to them.
Though it takes a few butt touches to convince them, the other detectives eventually believe Ye-boon, and with Detective Na’s practically superhuman skills, the team sneaks Ye-boon into the interrogation room to see Shaman Park. After a hasty explanation of her powers, she gets permission to read the shaman’s memories and finds out his alibi: he went to Sun-woo’s workshop that night and met up with him.
Jang-yeol finds it odd that Sun-woo popped up again in the case and confronts him about his whereabouts the night of the murders. Fed up with his targeted investigation, Sun-woo offers his butt for them to check — he put the clues together about Ye-boon and figured out her secret a while ago. Thus, Ye-boon touches his rear and corroborates his story: he is neither the poncho killer nor the third psychic.
With Sun-woo removed from the list of suspects, Jang-yeol hits a wall and wonders where he went wrong. While he goes over the case in his head, Ye-boon heads to Gwang-shik’s farm for a house call and gets a ride from Sun-woo. No longer having to worry about his true identity, she enjoys the peaceful moment together.
At Gwang-shik’s house, Ye-boon notices him acting strange, and after discussing it with Ok-hee, something clicks. She rushes to Jang-yeol’s place and tells him that maybe they were being played from the start. The only one who actually “saw” the third psychic is Gwang-shik, and once Jang-yeol takes away his statement, all the clues point towards him.
However, just as the others begin to suspect him, Gwang-shik becomes the poncho killer’s next target. Despite a life-threatening stab wound, he drags his body to Ye-boon’s hospital and leaves her a dying message: “Black…” (I was not expecting that!)
In the meantime, Jang-yeol continues searching for Gwang-shik, unaware of the turn of events, and as fate would have it, he runs into the poncho killer. As he gives chase, he manages to corner the killer, but loses him again after a little scuffle. He ends up outside the shaman’s home, and right then, Sun-woo walks out, carrying a garbage bag with blood on his hand.
Before Jang-yeol can do anything to Sun-woo, he receives news about Gwang-shik and runs over to Ye-boon. The sight of Gwang-shik lying dead on the floor sends him into a rage, and Jang-yeol barges into Sun-woo’s room, desperate to find the murder weapon. Though Sun-woo argues that he proved his innocence, Jang-yeol remains unconvinced and vows to catch him.
From Gwang-shik’s dying message, Jang-yeol deduces that he must have learned something about the blackouts and knew the killer’s identity. After some experimentation (poor Jong-muk gets imaginary stabbed thrice), Jang-yeol comes to the conclusion that the serial killer could not have committed these crimes with their eyes closed, which means a trick exists concerning these psychometric powers.
Jang-yeol isn’t the only one doubting Sun-woo, though, since the detectives on the case call him in for questions as well and search his place to no avail. Knowing his precarious situation, Sun-woo asks Ye-boon to accompany him to his workshop as his alibi, and she agrees to tag along when he says that she is the only person who trusts him.
Tailing Sun-woo, Jang-yeol sighs when he spots Ye-boon recklessly follow him, and calls her outside to get her away. He asks if she really likes Sun-woo or if she just wants someone to date. If it is the latter, he offers to date her, but his backwards confession only upsets her and she calls him trash.
At the station, Jong-muk’s boss learns of their team’s side project, which goes directly against his orders to stay out of the case, so in retaliation, he sends them as backup to another town. Despite Jang-yeol’s refusal to leave at such a crucial moment, Jong-muk will not risk his team members’ livelihoods and convinces him to retreat for now.
Before they head out, the detectives assign Shaman Park with a mission — find the murder weapon — and Jang-yeol throws Ye-boon in a holding cell for her own safety. She is rightfully annoyed by his abuse of power, and once he leaves, she manages to free herself by coming across as an unhinged lady who touches butts and believes in psychic powers.
The first thing Ye-boon does with her newfound freedom is head over to Sun-woo’s workshop after receiving a call, and Ok-hee’s notifies Jang-yeol of her location. Coming to terms with his feelings, Jang-yeol admits to Jong-muk that he is worried about Ye-boon as a man, and with his captain’s blessings, he rushes to her side.
While Jang-yeol races back like a maniac, Ye-boon arrives at the workshop, but to Sun-woo’s disappointment, she brought Shaman Park with her. In order to get Ye-boon alone, Sun-woo spills coffee on their uninvited guest, but instead of leaving as he hoped, Shaman Park asks Sun-woo to escort him to the restroom.
Left alone in the workshop, Ye-boon eyes the toolbox Sun-woo pushed aside and opens it. She finds the murder weapon inside, and by the time Sun-woo returns, Ye-boon is gone. He finds her walking away, so he grabs the knife and chases after her… wait, what?
As Ye-boon runs for her life, she suddenly stops in her tracks as the poncho killer blocks her path. (Wait, what?!) Sun-woo jumps in, knocking the killer off their feet, and he yells at Ye-boon to run. She escapes, finding a hiding spot not too far away, and calls for help.
However, while she waits for the police to arrive, she remembers Sun-woo’s words and gathers the courage to go and save him. Wielding a shovel, she returns to the crossroads where the killer attacked, but the only person there is Sun-woo, lying on the ground unmoving.
That cliffhanger! For the last ten to fifteen minutes, I was glued to the screen and completely caught off guard by all the twists. While I was distracted by who the poncho killer was, what I should have been paying attention to is who the next victim would be. Ever since the assemblyman’s death (as well as Ye-boon’s grandpa), I’ve been shocked by who the show is killing, and this episode raised the stakes. At first, it seemed like anyone could be the culprit, but now it feels like anyone could be the next target. Especially since I’ve come to love these goofy characters, I’m worried for everybody’s safety.
The show is doing an excellent job unveiling the mystery bit by bit, and the twists feel surprising yet straightforward. As a result, each revelation adds to the story, and the show isn’t actively trying to trick its audience. Rather, the story follows its main characters closely, so we see the case unfold from their viewpoint, including all their biases. Thus, even when the show chases after a red herring, it’s not done to hide the truth, and the show makes it clear that certain “truths” aren’t necessarily based on facts but from people’s memories which can be faulty. It ties back to the overall premise of the show with Ye-boon’s psychometric powers and how people don’t always remember details fully or accurately. Even memories can be misleading, and the same event could look vastly different depending on the perspective.
With all the murders in the show and subsequent tension, I’m happy the humor is still present and kicking. The restroom scene where Jong-muk and Deok-hee bought the others time was hilarious as was Jang-yeol’s failed experiments. Every time the lights came back on and revealed Jang-yeol stabbing Jong-muk furiously was a riot, and Kim Hee-won’s deadpan expression and delivery are perfection. His range as a performer is top notch, and he blends so well into every project he is in that I can’t complain that he’s practically everywhere right now.
As for the romance, I loved the quiet moments between Ye-boon and Jang-yeol during the funeral scenes, and it highlighted why their relationship feels so much deeper than Ye-boon’s, arguably superficial, crush on Sun-woo. While I think Sun-woo may have been romantically interested in our psychic vet before his sad end this week, their relationship felt unbalanced. She’s always the one comforting him, and even in a situation where he should have been the one to offer his condolences, he can only put his emotions first. That isn’t to say I think Sun-woo was selfish, but it did portray why these two wouldn’t have worked well together.
In contrast, Jang-yeol acts as Ye-boon’s pillar and goes out of his way to set up arrangements, buy her food, and encourage her. He does all this because he wants to, and though he did put his foot in his mouth like a huge idiot and threw her in holding cell (really, Jang-yeol?), he clearly cherishes her. Ye-boon, also, is becoming more aware of Jang-yeol, and I think she’s been unconsciously leaning on him for quite some time. Despite her interest in Sun-woo, she always ends up by Jang-yeol’s side and turns to him when she needs help. In addition, she notices Jang-yeol’s pain when he, himself, becomes too absorbed in the things around him, and just as he takes care of her, she takes care of him. Whether or not they end up together as a couple officially at the end is still up in the air, but regardless, I hope both of them make it out of this ordeal alive and well because after all this madness, they deserve a break.

Thank you for the recap, lovepark!
You know, I typed up this whole thing trying to make sense of what happened in episode 14 and what comes next and you know what?
I’m just gonna wait for next week. I predict there’s about a 10% chance of them pulling this off satisfactorily, a 20% chance of it being mediocre, and a 70% chance of it absolutely crashing and burning. And until I know which it is, I refuse to use up more brain power on this show. Yeah, I’m done thinking about it this week lol.
May the odds be ever in our favor I guess!
Oh, the joys and perils of live-watching!

I did discuss it a bit on my fan wall! Basically, in an ideal world, I envision them really bringing home the theme of trust, which has had a strong presence in this show, and how paranoia and the erosion of trust impacts communities and individuals.
But I just don’t see how they’ll do it in two episodes, and again, I’d rather put it to rest and just have the drama show me what it’s going to do next weekend rather than sit here and try to analyze anything without having the whole story.

Got it. And I understand, of course. The emotions around this drama have been running hot. I, too, am very interested to see how next week goes. I suspect we will all be very, very surprised (for better or for worse).

Shall be play at being Sherlock Holmes and prepare to be "very, very surprised".
"When you have eliminated all which is impossible then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
I propose to eliminate the possibility of our otp, 2521 couple, Ok-hee, her brother and Detective Na from the list of suspects.
BTW I forgot if the French teacher was in these episodes ... also he runs very well.
Sigh... so then who shall be suspect?

Ahh Mindy, same. I was so affected by Ep14. Yesterday I was reading the episode thread over at Reddit, and I got more stressed! I told myself to stop and forget about ep14 for now ‘cause honestly it’s not healthy anymore lol.
My motto for now is to keep calm and wait for the finale episodes (and pray to drama gods for a decent finale).

😭😭😭
so many deaths. Now I am worried for the finale.
This episode showed quite a few shots of ’reflections’. I am wondering if the culprit is using a mirror or a way to see indirectly. Which might be a cause of blackouts.
Or if the murderer is able to erase memories by some form. Like post drunk blackouts.
I am not sure. At times I worry it might be the Shaman. Or General McArthur.
Or someone possessing him. Someone who died.
A lot of things made me sad. Jang Yeol’s obsessive accusations on Seon-Woo made him not reach out to the cops the moment he got hold of the knife. He chose to hide it.
On the other hand Ye-Bun trusts too much. Knowing blackouts have a trick she still chose to trust Seon-Woo.
I really hope no more deaths happen. I am already sad about Gwang Shik. It’s sad there was a phase of distrust on him.
It must be hard being the leads. They want to solve this crime but are being thrown around.
I am glad Captain and team are onboard the psychic situation. Atleast we have a team.
Captain is amazing!

I’ve not trusted this show since episode two, and so it wouldn’t surprise me if everyone ended up dead by the end.
But if they did that by making the ghost of General Douglas MacArthur the murderer of this whole town…that’d be not only very much like this show, but also really quite “funny.”

In other, closely related, news, when double-checking how to spell General MacArthur’s last name, I learned that both his father and his son both have the name, “Arthur MacArthur.”
Now that’s a moniker.

😂 Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the ghost general at this point. I hope the characters remember that if the killer goes down, they almost always get back up at least once! (especially if they're possessed by a military ghost!)

Honestly, considering the Korean War, General MacArthur has a very good track record when it comes to causing Korean deaths. I’d say he’s as plausible a suspect as any.

Gwang-Sik being a volunteer investigator led to his demise. Ye-Bun’s attraction to Seon-Woo continues to put her in danger as Seon-woo is more likely to be hiding the truth. He probes her for information about her psychic powers. Jang-Yeol made a rookie mistake - -- he had probable cause to arrest and search Seon-Woo when he had blood on his hand after a police chase for the stabber. But he let him go and wash away the evidence (which could have been Jang-Yeol or Gwang-Sik’s blood). The clue about the blackouts being EDITED by the psychic is problematic since it would be impossible to put back the erased memories. And Seon-Woo finally allowing a touch with that power would make him “innocent” in the investigation. I am pretty certain Seon-woo psychic power could be the touch of a wrist like he did to Ye-Bun during the workshop “date.” He also touched Grandfather on wrist taking him to Cha’s on the night of the murder. But that alone does not make him the killer even though he had a bloody knife in his toolbox. Was he another volunteer detective? (Too many cooks spoil the investigation.)
The idea of no third psychic is still plausible. Or the psychic has the power to control other people’s thoughts or actions. The twist at the end of this week does not necessarily clear anyone since misdirection has been spinning out of control in the last 4 episodes. Rumor has it that Seon-woo is dead (which is the only way to open the love line to Jang-Yeol) but you can never be too sure with all the recent misdirections. My final bet going into the finale is that the killer is Cha’s assistant.

Or maybe he isn't smart. We assume he was supposed to be some hotshot detective because he was in violent crimes in some Seoul precinct and because he has the swagger. He was probably average at best. He is that guy in the office that gets by enough that his unambitious bosses don't feel like going through the trouble of firing him and getting a better detective. He's the same guy licking every powdered substance - including rat poison I think- in hopes it was drugs. He licked a lot of weird crap in those early episodes...may have killed off some brain cells.
I really like Jang-yeol on screen and mostly a joy to watch, but I would find him too irritating to interact with in real life.

So many bad decisions...
Gwang-shik shoud have called JY instead to try alone...
And what happened to the theory he lied? It was explaining everything and 3 minutes later, he died proving it was wrong...
Why YB didn't touch his butt? It was too late to do something, so at least she could see things... Did she learn her lesson with her grandfather?
Sun-woo always hide something and didn't tell the whole truth. I think if he had been more honest with JY, YB would have been in danger like this...
For the romance, I never thought they will focus on it. So I don't really care. I like their bickering.

Exactly! I was thinking the SAME thing regarding her not touching him as he was dying. Clearly he was trying to tell her something and that would've been a prime instance of when some insight could've helped.
I just rationalized it as she was just to shocked to think (

I think she is able to act when she is not emotionally affected which is probably the case of most humans. In both grandpa and Gwang Shik’s case it was people she knew and cared about. Also when Gwang Shik came she panicked because she was half expecting him to be the killer. Seeing them dying is different from seeing Seung-Gil.

Thank you @lovepark for the insightful recap.
I personally think Episode 13 was great. First part was heart-tugging — with Grandpa’s passing, Ye-bun’s grief and pain, and Jang-yeol’s endless concern (and endless longing gaze hee hee) for Ye-bun. Him taking care of a lot of things for her (clearing Grandpa’s, funeral arrangement, making sure Ye-bun eats) was very sweet and thoughtful.
The comedy in the middle was gold! This show continues to surprise and delight with their creative and consistent humor. And lastly, the mystery part. One of the things I am most impressed with in this show is how they handle the twists and turns (which are a lot btw) so well. Every twist is believable. It never came across as absurd or forced just for the sake of surprise factor. I was very happy with Ep13.
And then came Ep14.🥺 And as most viewers expressed — IT WAS A LOT! So many things happened I couldn’t process and sort my thoughts and feelings about this episode. The initial and only coherent thought I had managed is how are they going to wrap everything up (especially the OTP romance) with only 2 episodes left? And the preview killed me.🥺 Honestly, it left me with a heavy feeling. Still hoping against hope that it is not what it seems.
Further hoping that the team will somehow pull everything off in the finale week, just how they managed to pull off the butt-touching premise in the first place.

Thank you for the recap @lovepark
Positives Thus far in the drama, Detective Na had been the only character who had not made any impression on the viewers, but with the impeccable finger reading and lip reading skills she has shot to fame. Her delivery guy disguise was equally funny and pefect.
Although, Jang Yeol’s failed attempt at confessing his love for Ye Bun was long overdue, I still squealed. He looked like a love sick puppy watching her through Seon Woo's workshop window. My heart again fluttered when he ascertained his feelings for Ye Bun to the captain.
Negatives Considering the fact that the drama started showing its weakness only in Ep 14, I must credit the team for good humour and decent writing. Now, my fury is directed at the writer/PD for killing Seon Woo. Until his death Ye Bun was nursing a crush on him, so even if the leads do get together it will always be an appalling decision made to get rid of SML obstacle in the lead’s romance. This is what happens when you try to satisfy both ships, but this is totally not just about the romance.
Why give Seon Woo a tragic past and make viewers/Ye Bun sympathise with him when his entire arc is just a bait and switch for the murder mystery with no real importance to him as a character. When he opened up to Ye Bun about him running whenever there was a mention of his mom, is when the writers realized they did not know how to help him find solace and finished him off.
Another dissatisfaction is Jang Yeol's obsession with pinning Seon Woo as a killer because of his bad gut instincts. I thought he had better understanding after Captain's explanation of why Seon Woo being a culprit could be far fetched, but he again went back to harassing Seon Woo. It is like every other cop out there in real life, who pride themselves of serving justice, but in hindsight are bullies who blindly stick to accusing a person of crime without doing a proper job of investigating the crime based on evidence. Others can blame Ye Bun all they want for being dumb, but I feel the responsibility of Seon Woo’s death lies solely on JY because if only the cops trusted Seon Woo, he would have mentioned about finding the murder knife.

Maybe it's the terrible police culture in the US, but Jang-yeol's obsession with Seon-woo as a killer left a bad taste. Like sprinkle some coke on him while you're at it, why don't you, so you can frame him for drug charges too? And the bad taste got even worse with Seon-woo's getting killed off. He left the world under such tragic circumstances. Like a few minutes before his demise, Yebun was even doubting him (which I don't blame him for since he was thoughtlessly running after her with the bloody murder weapon...).

I think the bad taste might come from the fact that jang-yeol turned out to be wrong? (At least I think he’s wrong. This drama is so crazy I’m not putting anything past the writers.) if he was right, at least narratively you could say he had some justification, but to then make him wrong leaves jang-yeol, our lead, looking like a problematic cop and seon woo a sad victim. (To be clear, I am in no way condoning jang-yeol’s behavior, fictional character or not.)

What a fantastic recap, lovepark!! I would not know where to begin if I were recapping this show!
You know how intestines twist, giving you that godawful pain in the gut that you cannot do anything about? Episode 14 did that.
They killed two main characters, so the show is already not a happy ending (my heart broke for Gwang-shik's girlfriend), and Sun Woo's death was a terrible end to a budding, even though massively lacking in chemistry, relationship between sweet Ye buna and him.
The humour is indeed A+. The bathroom scene and the furious stabbing of Captain was the highlight (I literally rolled off laughing). I agree about Kim Hee Won. I have loved him since his A-game in 'The Man from Nowhere', and he never disappoints.
And, of course, the goofy, totally in love, Jang Yeol's longing gazes and even goofier attempts to protect his lady love. "Date me" was like - 'Nay?' Even I went - Yaay??? (totally Hangul style, hehehe!)
The clue black - left me wondering - Does the killer wear black glasses to prevent memories from registering?
I still have my dime on the secretary. He was there at the barn and is possibly a psychic. He had access to all the victims. The question is, how did Gwang-shik figure it out?
Couple of hotch potches -
a) Why did Ye Bun did not try to touch Gwang-shik's girlfriend's butt to know more later?
b) Did Sun Woo have a scuffle with the killer too? (Hence, the blood and the knife?)
Can we have some more of those beautiful Jang Yeol longing gazes?

I think Ok-hee had explained to Ye-bun that the thing Gwang-shik was probably trying to hide by preventing her from touching the gf's butt was that there are probably a lot of recent x-rated moments in there considering they are a new couple that just started cohabitating and are planning marriage. They're probably acting like bunnies in heat behind closed doors.

a) This also frustrated me.
b) I think you're on to it. It's very possible that the killer ran into the backyard of the Shaman's house after the encounter with JY, had a scuffle with Seon-woo and/or dropped the bloody knife. Seon-woo realized he couldn't turn over the left-behind weapon because the police (especially JY) would pin the murders on him. So he hid it in his toolbox instead.

Jang Yeol is not the only cop. She should have reached out to captain or detective Kang and handed it over right away.
But I see why he is so scared. Like I said JY’s constant probing made it difficult for him. He should have been a bit more open and communicated with the cops. He was all ‘smug’. If I were him I would have met the captain and complained about Jang Hyeol 😂

Completely agree. He realized Ye-bun was the only one who could vindicate him, by seeing through her powers how he found the knife and also because she was willing to believe in his innocence to begin with. Sadly, waiting for that opportunity backfired in the extreme!

First, to the FL: “Honey, you should not have to low-key fondle your grandpa in order to know he wasn’t a complete jerk. That was on HIM to demonstrate to YOU through words and actions throughout his life. Which he didn’t. Really, you gave him more respect than he deserved, considering.”
This was the first episode where I was legit worried the wheels were starting to wobble on this crazy train (and the preview for next week didn’t help). It was also the first episode where I lost my patience with our FL. As wrong as it was for our ML to literally lock her up against her will in a freaking jail cell, the fact that she immediately got out only to run off alone, in the dark, to hang out with a possible serial killer was so jaw-droppingly stupid I don’t even know what to do with her anymore. It wouldn’t have killed her to humor everyone and take steps to stay safe, just in case, whether she believed she was in danger or not.
Also, isn’t the death count getting a little high for a comedy about seeing the future through butt-grabs? Though I admit I had a blast watching the constant flip-flopping of suspects this week. It’s giving me big, cheesy slasher vibes and I kinda love it.

Ye-bun frustrated me too.

For a show with such a wacky concept, it surely piles up the deaths, without sparing some of the main characters...
I hope Sun Woo is not dead, so that, if Ye Bun ends up with the detective, it is her own choice and progress, instead of being because of a lack of choice.
I'm still p***ed off that she didn't call the people on the bus to save Ji Suk, there were lots of acquaintances there and the criminal couldn't do anything among them. Instead, she chose to waste time going to the detective, because she only trusted him.
Also, when the detective asked about the blood on Sun Woo's hand, he replied: I don't know. Ok, you may go. How does that make sense?
Otherwise I enjoy the show and the quirks of the characters, and I'm invested in Ok-hui and Unnie guy's love story. I hope to get at least that in the end.

Oh I so agree with you about if they kill off sun woo. It will take all of the satisfaction away from her choosing the ML (if she even does) because then there’s no second option.
The bus moment and the bloody hand both felt like the writing showing its seams a bit. Where the writers overlooked something obvious in order to force the narrative where they wanted it to go.

My main takeaway from these episodes was SO WHO IS THE KILLER?!
Is it really the shaman. Is he having some kind of mental break when he's channeling the general and/or other spirits which allows him to blackout and commit the murders?
I thought maybe it was the translator cop since he didn't want her to touch his butt but then I dismissed that thought and figured it was just too embarrassing and personal/intimate for him.
The killer is gonna be revealed as some random side character? I even thought maybe the part time carpenter stage that fight with his partner cause seriously, who else is there?
If it turns out to be that former assemblyman or a lackey of his, I think I'm gonna be annoyed. Same if it's Assemblyman Cha's employee.

If we believe both Jang-Yeol and the Captain, the killings are related by one psychic who would have had to be at the farm that night: Cha, Kang (his assistant), Gwang-sik's father or someone else who lurks outside of town (Shaman, Seon-woo).
It is hard to link all the victims to one killer's grudge.

Though I think they were drawing very fast conclusions, they did say that Gwang-sik's last words "I found out... black ..." meant that he had understood how the blackouts worked and that when they understood that, they would know who it was.
If we take that to mean (but don't trust them) that the blackout's is something specific to that person, then it is the ghost(s) and spirit(s) that inhabit the shaman. His own self goes in a trance, and then revengeful spirits carry out the murders.

They made Gwang Sik seem VERY suspicious of the shaman when they were at the funeral hall. Weirdly so.
But still doesn't explain his reaction to Ye Bun attempting to touch the girlfriend. It's as if the girlfriend had unknowingly seen something that he didn't want Ye Bun to know about. Even if he was trying to hide their sexy times, the level of reaction was odd; almost like he couldn't trust Ye Bun either.

Jang-yeol received a call that Yi-boon was in danger and rushed to her aid.
Maybe, when he arrived, the murderer had escaped or was fleeing, and what he saw was Seon-woo with the murder weapon in his hand.
Considering he has bodyslammed Yi-boon more than once for just getting her hand near someones behind, and considering he is obviously jealous of Seon-woo, no matter what he tells himself or anyone else, ... there's a possiblity Jang-yeol has killed Seon-woo.

I hate Ye-boon more and more after seeing episode 14. She literally could've unmasked or hurt the killer while he was being dragged on the ground and clumsily trying to get hands off his foot. Just grab the knife and start stabbing!!! Its clearly the killer is not a "pro" and she knows it so she ran seemingly like half a mile out then cry about it then run back...
It just annoys me soooo much how her character has been. Having crush that clouds her initial judgement (seon woon innocent but he could've played her like a fiddle if he were the culprit) and now this.
As for the murderer.... I think Shaman might be the highest but I would wager either the male secretary to the mayor cha OR maybe Shaman's son. We keep hearing Shaman talking about his son - maybe its illegitimate son or a father-son combo killer or father protecting his son.

Most of my commentary will focus on my OTP, because that's just how I roll:
I love your interpretation of Jang-yeol's and Ye-bun's relationship. I didn't even think about the reciprocity aspects. You're right, because I was thinking that Seon-woo wasn't really bringing that up at a good time. I was excited when Jang-yeol told Ye-bun to date him, even if he did so in a terrible way. I think he kind of blurted it out without really planning or thinking about it, and also totally meant it. It was such a Mr. Darcy proposal moment where he confesses while also totally insulting her, and I loved it so much. His support of Ye-bun was really sweet and Lee Min-ki did such a great job showing how much he cares for her. I don't think his character would work half as well as a male lead that we're rooting for romance-wise, if it would work at all, with other actors.
Given the preview for next week, I am wondering if there will be a time jump before our main couple gets together. It seems like it'd be really fast for her to go from Seon-woo to Jang-yeol, especially now that he's passed away.
I get Ye-bun's grief but I really missed her personality this episode. It was like a light had dimmed!
I was laughing really hard when they showed up with a warrant. So they DO exist in the world of this drama!

This drama likes to play tennis with the suspects. Just when you think the characters cleared someone, they end back up on the list. It's like a tough jigsaw puzzle where you thought a piece goes one one place because it fits on one side and the color matches, but it doesn't once you have all the other pieces around it put together.
While I dislike his policing methods, Jang-yeol was the MVP for just being there for Ye-bun, even helping with some of the funeral arrangements. I sort of like how koreans seem to have a set package for weddings and funerals. You can do it almost on autopilot and it's easier to get help. Han Ji-min does devastation so well. I was mourning with her at the funeral scenes.
Out of all these deaths, Sun-woo's felt so unfair since he had been trying to find his mother. And he spent his last days just being hounded and suspected and in the end. I guess it sort of tracks with how Ye-bun and her grandfather didn't get an emotional reunion either. I had been enjoying all these twists, but I wish the writer had pulled back a bit. They're really just killing everyone around Ye-bun. If she weren't the main character of this mystery comedy, she would really be the top suspect. Next up would be Jang-yeol.
Ye-bun must be hella traumatized with all these violent deaths of her family and friends.
I feel like the only explanation that would make sense is the shaman getting possessed. Unless the blackouts were a misdirect. Maybe it's someone rich carrying a black card?

One thing in that would make sense. Poor guy didn't get to say more than just "black..." and it would be just typical of this show if what he was trying to say was just something entirely different from "blackouts".
To me, Sun-woos death was especially unfair (if he is dead. please, let him do a bogs bunny) because he had been treated unfairly*always*, and now he was here and could have had friends and maybe a girlfriend, maybe just a crush, and instead everybody was set to spy on him and suspect him and if he hoped the murderer would be found, and then he would be free to start from "not the murderer" status ... then he hoped too much. I have my own theory, which I'll keep to myself for now. I just want to rant about Ye-boon's ongoing idiocy. No, not about trusting poor Sun-Woo, but as a trained veterinary surgeon, she is absolute crap at first aid, CPR, not panicking, and common sense. The latest example, if she was going to run, as urged by Sun-Woo, why didn't she pick up the knife as she went, or throw it away, or better yet stab the attacker. Too little, too late, with your useless shovel.

I have noticed it before in these TV-shows; the hero will throw himself into fight and tell others to run, and sometimes it makes sense, but they also do it when they could be to against one in a fight, like here. It made no sense to leave him alone with a killer and maybe a 50/50 chance of surviving, when she could have kicked the murderer or thrown stuff at him ... if she isn't a good fighter (and let's keep the possibility open that she isn't) she could at least be a bother, and tip the scales to Soen-woo's advantage.

agreed, especially since at the moment, the serial killer doesn't have any known motive or target. The serial killer just be killing people seemingly at random (why does there always have to be a motive?), so Seon-woo's chances of living through the altercation were really low. Like if it's an abusive man bent on killing a woman in a domestic/dating violence sort of situation...yeah, tell the girl to run away and hold him back...
I guess it's easy for me to think this through since I'm safe in my house. And when I'm outside of the house, i'm on the defensive. I guess Mujin doesn't have any murders or rapes or other violent assaults ever, so people don't think about the dangers or ever picture themselves in terrible scenarios. Just like how all those people who don't ever lock their doors in some rural areas. I lock my door even for the 1 minute it takes me to go down to the common laundry room to add one more thing to my wash that I had forgotten.

I am sure I'm a total coward, but yes, leaving Seon-woo alone with a murderer, when she could have joined him in a two-against- one ... if he is dead, it would have been worth a lot to give it a (scared) try. Like she did, but only after calling for help and crying some more. So that maybe SW ended up killed in "friendly fire" since Yi-boon only said she was scared, not that Seon-woo was fighting for her life. And then his.

Learning an academic/practical profession and keeping your head cold in front of a serial killer demands very different skills.
Actually, my sister is a vet, and also a formidable planner of making everything work and getting things done. A bit like if Amy from Brooklyn 99 were a vet.
But you should have heard her panicked scream that night she found a spider in her bed, and her anger at me for in my half-sleep to go looking for a newspaper to slap it with: "YOU CAN'T LEAVEME ALONE IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS!!!"
Now, I suspect she would be less scared in front of a serial killer, but still, I think it demonstrates that you can be a (good!) vet and at the same time react a little bit ... less than optimal in a situation where you feel threatened.

The thing that I most want resolved satisfactorily next weekend is how the murderer is getting away with it. Gwang-shik has hinted that the murderer is manipulating the blackouts so that his crimes can't be seen - check. We've had the hint dropped that it may be to do with using a mirror, a la Medusa (but I'm not happy with that because you'd still see them checking the mirror). There's the theory that the killer is wearing black sunglasses which has a bit of traction as all the murders occurred at night (meaning sunglasses would really black out pretty much everything). However, that would make it mighty difficult to see - and run - which our killer is doing plenty of. If the killer is not Seon-woo then he wants to make use of him by framing him (since the weapon was in his toolbox) so the killer has to know enough of Seon-woo's movements - and how to access his workshop - to do so. I don't really mind how they tie it up as long as it makes good sense and is satisfyingly, "Oh yeah..."
I do wonder if @seeker is on to something by referencing And Then There Were None: has Seon-woo deliberately staged this event so that people have "seen" there is another person as the killer and will therefore stop considering him. I can't buy that the murderer will be one of the side characters - we need to know this person to have the emotional investment in the story succeed - so really we are left with Seon-woo or the Shaman. Let's see!

So true ... you have hit the nail on the head.
At this stage, to have a satisfactory ending the how is more important than who. The writer seems to have stretched the mystery to its utmost, just hope it won't snap back and hit us in the face. It seems challenging to land the ending ending in just two episodes with the dozen or more loose threads still hanging.
If we get a clear answer about the intent and motive for the murder spree and modus operandi for manipulating blackouts perhaps the loose threads will be forgiven and forgotten.
I just remembered **rushes to check recaps.**
Eureka! In the recaps for episodes 7-8 @mindy quoted Han Ji-min saying that the PD contacted her with this drama and said he would “make her into a romantic comedy queen”.

What a hot mess. Or bloody mess?
Everybody's dying, and it's not because the killer is fantastic at murdering people without getting caught. Pretty much everyone chasing him is incompetent to the degree their mistakes and missteps make it easier for the killer to run the show. This is basically a show of amateur sleuths losing a game of cat-and-mouse badly.
I came in for the humor and have stayed for the humor... but now the writers have realized the serial killer plot can't be resolved as another joke and so they have swapped out a long-running comedy for a thriller - and wow, it's just awful and jarring!

Its sad amd awful that they killed off two characters I learned to like a lot. Despite Seon Woo's sus actions, he was a good foil to Jang Yeol. Also someone he is clearly jealous of bec of his growing interest to Ye Boon. Now I am worried that the killer is someone we overlooked all along. I am suspicious of the shaman because of the blackouts. He is the only plausible candidate left. Something else may have possessed him that is out killing people. If that is true, I feel bad for his son. Unless there is another candidate that. I just hope its not another character I like or close to the leads. Since that will be a betrayal that would cut so deep.

Ok, that was a lot in these last two episodes.
I don't think they needed the murder count so high, it has been impactful enough but I'm going along for the ride.
Poor Sun woo just can't catch a break, is he really dead? I hope it's just a fake out but why have him running with the knife like that.
The last 15 mins of ep 14 were so tense but well done for the bait and switch because I didn't see that coming.
It is amazing that they still have these little windows of comedy that fit right in and have been tied to the characters from the start, i.e - female detective able to read the texts and lip read from afar because of the husbands cheating, well done to the writer.

19+? Holy cow, that's a bit concerning for the story, lol

It is. The rest of the episodes is only rated 15 so I don't know why the last 2 episodes are rated 19+. I think the murder scenes will be too disturbing hence the rating. I really hope the writer and director can pull this off. A bit scary of they will deliver and have a good explanation on the murders.

I don’t know if this will be the case here—although I suppose I hope it is—but sometimes the streaming services put the 19+ rating on a show prior to air, but then the show itself doesn’t end up requiring it. This happened on Prime for HeartBeat once.

I think I might be the only person who’s disenchanted with the direction this drama has taken in its second half. I'm just kinda getting bored with all the crime noir tbh. As the recap pointed, while there were comedic scenes, it still felt like the moments darkness outnumbered the light. Can we have a bigger comedy instead of all the angst pls?
That anecdote of the director telling Han Ji-min he’d make her a romcom queen seems darkly ironic now. it's been 14 episodes and Ye-bun is still love with the SML. Unless that was supposed to be the loveline from the start? because, after the ending of EP. 14, how is her romance with ML even supposed to proceed?

I was thinking, before the finale next week, how about we go wild with our guesses as to who could be the killer -
My guess is the secretary. Though I do feel if so the shock factor would be absent.
My other guess is a wild one - OK-hee's father; but I can't recall if Gwang Sil had touched his calves.

So I've been thinking... there was a scene when Jang Yeol took Ye Bun with him to his nemesis, and made her touch his butt, in order to see if he was the one who had ordered the killing of the first guy (Jang Yeol's friend).
When he left, that guy took a long look at Ye Bun, as if wondering about this type of power that she has.
So I've been wondering if he was planning something, maybe to get rid of her, or use her somehow?
Could he be involved in all the killings, and if yes, why? Or is it just a loose end that will remain loose?
