News bites: July 31, 2023

  • The promos continue for KBS’s My Lovely Boxer, this time releasing character posters of our main cast: Lee Sang-yub (Eve), Kim So-hye (How to Buy a Friend), Park Ji-hwan (Our Blues), and Kim Jin-woo (Love for a Thousand More) among others. Slated to air on August 21, the sports drama is set to follow Heartbeat in the Monday-Tuesday slot. [KBS]

  • New stills have dropped for Netflix’s upcoming Mask Girl, featuring the black comedy’s mother-son duo: Yeom Hye-ran (The Glory) and Ahn Jae-hong (Be Melodramatic). With Go Hyun-jung (Reflection of You) and Nana (Glitch) co-playing the central role – along with a ~mysteriously~ unknown rookie actress – the suspense-thriller will be launching in just a few weeks on August 18. [Sports Kyunghyang]

  • Jung Eun-ji (Work Later, Drink Now 2), Lee Jung-eun (Missing: The Other Side 2), and Choi Jin-hyuk (Numbers) have reportedly been cast in a new fantasy rom-com called The Woman Who Is Different by Day and Night (roughly translated). PD Lee Hyung-min (Showtime Begins, Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) is attached to direct with scripts penned by Park Ji-ha (Good Casting). [Star News]
  • With The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch kicking off this past weekend, Jo Byung-kyu is reviewing offers for his next project and may be heading to Joseon in A Bird’s Eye (roughly translated). The romance is still in the planning stages with Kim Mi-hui writing and PD Noh Jong-chan (IDOL: The Coup, Cruel Palace – War of the Flowers) at the helm. [Sedaily]

  • A new poster has come out for SBS’s The Killing Vote, showcasing our crime-thriller’s leads, Park Sung-woong (Bloodhounds), Im Ji-yeon (Lies Hidden in My Garden), and Park Hae-jin (Showtime Begins). Coming to our screens on August 10, the series will be broadcasting in SBS’s new Thursday slot. [Sports Chosun]
  • Over on JTBC, more stills have been released of our bickering duo Han Ji-min (Yonder) and Lee Min-ki (My Liberation Notes) in the upcoming Behind Your Touch. The fantasy rom-com also stars Suho (Rich Man) and will be taking over the weekend slot after King the Land, premiering on August 12. [News1]

Already I have a concern. MDL is going with the title SAERAENADAE.
https://mydramalist.com/755951-saeraenadae
MDL synopsis:

“Set in a virtual Joseon and it will tell the romance story of the prince of Joseon who wants to escape from the nation and find happiness, and a maiden who came from a poor family, who aims to be happy by becoming successful in the country. “

Really? Virtual Joseon?
O/T. Thinking about it could an argument be made that JOY OF LIFE (2019) is set in a sort of virtual Southern Qing era?

@marcusnyc20
Yea, I hope the writer is capable. I'm not a fan of Tvn's dress-up sageuks TBH. "Joseon X-files" was one of a kind, but it was produced by MBC.
"JOY of LIFE" is in a league of its own. While waiting for the 2nd part, I've been watching Ruo Yun's older dramas.

Believe it or not, I've been watching more C-dramas this year, mostly older ones.

I don't know how Go Hyun-jung attached to Mask Girl. This had better be good.

I'm suspiciously looking at Mystery Woman at Day and Night. Its good to have Choi Jin-hyuk back in a rom-com.

August 12 should be here quickly so I can know what prompted that last screenie.

I’m tentatively interested in Mask Girl, and always interested in a new fantasy rom com. I’d also love to see Jo Byung-kyu in a sageuk, that could be really fun, and everything I see about The Killing Vote makes me more intrigued by it. Try as I might though, I have trouble feeling anything but trepidation for Touch Your Behind.

Interested in Arthdal Chronicles season 2 starting from Sep 9.
The season 1 execution was messed up despite an interesting story. This time around looks like they have different production teams, actors and even the streaming station. Hopefully things work out.

Especially with Lee Joon-Ki in it. I have to watch just for him and I did quite like the first season.
