Flying, fighting, and friendship in supernatural sci-fi Moving
by solstices
It’s the first day of school for the peculiar protagonists of Disney+’s Moving, a fantasy sci-fi based on the webtoon of the same name. Following its first teaser, the drama treats us to a longer glimpse of its main characters and the superpowers they’re endowed with.
Awakening from a dream in which he’s plunging down to Earth, Kim Bong-seok — played by Lee Jung-ha (Nevertheless) — falls back onto his bed from the ceiling, where he’d been sleeping all night. His mother Lee Mi-hyun, played by Han Hyo-joo (Happiness), stuffs a weight plate into his backpack before shooing him out the door, and we soon see why. In the middle of class, Bong-seok starts levitating, sending him into a wide-eyed panic — hmm, it seems like he doesn’t have control over his own ability.
In comparison, Jang Hee-soo — played by Go Yoon-jung (Alchemy of Souls) — is having a relatively calmer morning, bidding goodbye to her dad Ryu Seung-ryong (Kingdom) with a smile and a salute. Elsewhere, the bespectacled Lee Kang-hoon — played by Kim Do-hoon (The Law Cafe) — approaches his father Kim Sung-kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin) outside a neighborhood mart.
As luck would have it, both Jung-ha and Hee-soo are running late for school, and they collide right in front of the school gates. Jung-ha goes flying to the ground, and Hee-soo stares at him curiously, as if she’s sensed something odd about him. Her suspicions are soon confirmed when Jung-ha floats up to the top of a stairwell before her very eyes, leaving her stunned.
Not to be outdone, we see Kang-hoon punch a tree with such strength that it snaps in two and keels over. Before long, our trio bond with each other over their special abilities, with Hee-soo sweetly saying that she’s cheering them on.
However, the world of the adults is much more unforgiving. We’re given a montage of the kids’ parents — including Jo In-sung (It’s Okay, That’s Love) — harnessing their powers to fight their way through danger, complete with guns, explosions, and crackling electricity. “Someone is eliminating us,” Mi-hyun realizes, as the superhuman hunter Ryu Seung-bum (Tazza) arrives at the airport.
Through flashbacks, we see even more sinister undertones. In what seems like a brutal training camp, Kim Shin-rok (Reborn Rich) delivers a tight slap to a bloody and disheveled Hee-soo. Worse yet, we see young boys with awful scarring on their backs, forced towards what looks like a containment facility by armed guards. It’s clear why our protagonists’ parents are so determined to conceal their children’s powers — the world is hostile towards superhumans, seeking to either exploit or eliminate them.
Helmed by PD Park In-je (Kingdom 2) and PD Park Yoon-seo, with scripts penned by the original webtoon author Kangfull, Moving premieres on August 9.

Sounds like a live action version of the Incredibles trying to hide in plain sight and blend into normal suburban family life. Shame I can’t handle live action as this sounds like an interesting story.

(1) Truly stellar acting skills or (2) her apparently perfect genes cover aging and is actually 52 years old.

Lee Jung-ha's curly perm made me wonder if this had some kind of tie to The Uncanny Counter for a moment. It looks like it could be dark, weird fun and I will definitely go darkside to check it out.
