2nd Blue Dragon Series Awards

Last year we saw Korea’s famous Blue Dragon Film Awards expand to include streaming content and miniseries with their new Series Awards arm. Now, the awards are in their second year, and this year’s winners? Well, there are some names here that make me want to pump my fist in the air in victory. And then there are some that just feel like popularity nominations. But I’m nice, so I won’t name names.

How is Cha Eun Woo a new actor? From what angle? What did they smoke?

I think their version/definition of "new actor" is someone who hasn't been nominated for this particular award or field

Yeah, this is how you get Seo In-guk nominated for best new actor at the Baeksangs this year. It's a weird category in general.

@missvictrix Best Drama was won by Big Bet, not The Glory in bold.

Park Ji-hoon winning Best New Actor makes me jump for joy. He was robbed of a nomination in the Baeksang Arts Awards.

Im Ji-yeon deserves to sweep all the Best Supporting Actress awards.

It was! I'm not sure why I bolded The Glory, but sorry for the scare ^^

wasnt extraordinary woo allowed to be nominated for anything? or just robbed? lol at first I thought it was just because this was streaming exclusive, but cheer up was a SBS drama iirc so....

happy for park jihoon. weak hero was really good and he was the driving force behind it.

It is supposed to be streaming exclusive, not sure what Cheer Up is doing there!

Cheer Up was produced by Wavve. That's why KBS drama Bad Prosecutor was also nominated.

so the criteria is just being produced by streaming platform and not streaming exclusive. that's random lol

Good for them.
I wish they are less conservative with the red carpet looks. They usually stick with black or white.

The way I see it this is more like a popularity award: the awards were distributed equally among many contenders.

Sorry, I'm missing something. How was it a popularity contest if the awards were distributed equally?

Ash. Wrong word choice. Thanks for pointing that out. I only meant the awards are distributed equally among contenders (the way many big public channels in SK give awards to their shows at the end of the year award ceremony). As I haven’t watched The Glory, I’m not sure its quality warrants a Daesang but it’s obviously the most popular among all the noms.

Aww, I remember seeing older comments about how Suzy couldn't emote and now look at her, a blue dragon winner for her acting.
That's nice

From what I remember of the drama, I don't think it was exactly a powerful performance but it was certainly different for her and she did well. Two things that stand out to me: she did sign language and there's a moment when she acted towards a maid a similar way she had been treated in the past and that was kinda interesting. It was a fully becoming the mask moment but it was also shattering an illusion, even momentarily. I don't know if I explained that well at all haha but yeah, that was a scene that I remember.

I don't get what exactly the criteria for this is. It's only for performances on streaming sites?

I saw Yu Jae Seok won an award; so that's because he's done shows on Netflix & Disney+? (And/or Korean equivalents)

Hmm, interesting. So there's the station awards and now streaming awards? Lots of opportunities for awards haha

Hum... the nominated and the winner are quite disapointing. I wonder how Recipe for Farewell wasn't nominated for more categories and Kim Seo-hyung didn't win. It's the only one drama for me that really deserved to be nominated.

The winners are almost all from 'gritty' dramas, this is an interesting choice. I am especially pleased for Ha Jung-woo and Narco Saints. Suzy is a deserving winner for Anna as is Park Ji-hoon.

I am not sure, if the shortlist should have included a few other dramas, but overall, it is not a bad result.

I notice too These kind of awards tend used to favor gritty drama / intense roles.

Big Bet deserved those wins. Lee Dong-hwi deserve more nominations for his role.
