Premiere Watch: Paper Moon
by missvictrix
Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Suspense, thriller, romance
Episode count: 10
Reasons to watch: ENA has been all over the map with their offerings thus far, and I’m loving it. With Paper Moon, we have a Japanese novel adaptation that looks both artful and harrowing, and I must say the promos have done a brilliant job of establishing the drama’s aesthetic (not to mention that firehose of drama). But is there ever a reason not to watch Kim Seo-hyung? Here she plays a housewife in a dead marriage to Gong Jung-hwan. When she tries to push back into the world again, she starts working at a bank, and that’s where our story really begins. From the looks of it, a love affair, insider thievery, and a whole lot of emotional upheaval are in store for our heroine (and us).
It’s pretty clear that Paper Moon is going to be a wildly dramatic ride, but what has me most interested are the moments of quiet desperation that we’ve gotten glimpses of. After all, what’s a story of a women’s life “crumbling beautifully” without a piercing look into her soul? The drama also stars Yoo Sun, Lee Chun-hee, and rookie Lee Shi-woo (whom you may remember from his supporting roles in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol and Hi Bye Mama) as her young paramour.
TL;DR: The ever-fantastic Kim Seo-hyung in a dramatic tale a woman’s life gone sideways

Although the thriller elements of this mean I won’t be watching, I will be following weecaps. I want to see how an everyday person comes to think taking someone else’s money just because she can was the way to go in life.

I don't. Honestly, this sounds awful. There are times when I just do not understand the appeal of a drama (or novel), and this is one of them.

Yeah I might follow through the weecaps just to see what the whole thing is about, and I'm really interested to see if folks love it, but this just does not sound appealing to me. I can only handle characters making a few bad decisions at once.

Kim Seo-hyung always seems to make interesting drama choices.

I’ll take a look.
The Japanese did both a five episode drama and a film, based on the novel, Kami no Tsuki by Mitsuyo Kakuta .

Cautious optimistic on this one just because of Kim Seo-hyung. She is so good but the story? Can I handle it? Will it be cutting but not brutal? We shall see.
