[Drama chat] Opening title sequences

This week’s topic is thanks to the suggestion of @anne18 and @kurama — they started chatting about K-drama opening title sequences and it’s definitely a topic worth chatting about!

A lot of attention is paid to crafting a drama’s opening titles, but in the past it was hard to even see them as an international fan — desperate searches for episodes on the interwebs usually meant sacrificing that. Now, however, the story is different, and in recent years it’s been a joy to watch opening sequences that are so creative and do a great job of setting the drama’s tone. Whether it’s something interpretive and thematic (like the opening titles of Little Women or Tomorrow), something that just rocks the OST and sets the mood (like Happiness’s opening credits), or the recent move towards animated sequences like we saw with Business Proposal and One Dollar Lawyer — opening titles can be a drama to enjoy in themselves.

Are you an opening credits watcher? What are some of your favorite drama opening title sequences?

I tend to fast forward through the opening and closing credits and only really remember One dollar lawyer and Chief Kim. If I watch closing credits its to see if there is a preview.

The opening theme of "its okay not to be okay" is so beautiful and creative. It gave sort of a brief theme on the characters and the show.

And the scene where DO running barefooted showed all the struggle the ML face in his psychotic attack 😭

That was great! I was completely obsessed with the ost too, and I never care for music much.

The credit of "The Glory" witch literally contained every important symbol of the series.

Call it love: The title was refreshing for me and there is part where they were pretty creative with shadows. One of our couples reaches hand for the other. The other reaches too but before the actual hand, the shadow hand joins the other party 's hand

I remember I really like the opening sequence from Painter of The Wind because I like traditional east asian painting and I think the ost played along with it suited the saguek vibe.

Ok, no matter how Kdramas turn out, the opening sequence is impressive every time. You can feel the creative teams put a lot of thought into them. Especially compared to the long spoilery Chinese/Taiwanese and the silly Jdrama ones. Seriously, fastwarding through them on Viki becomes a whole task. My favourite recent ones that I never skipped are Little Women, Happiness, Mouse, Yumi's Cells, 2521 and EAW which was the loveliest- yay for whales! ❤

I normally skip the opening sequences. But there are two dramas that I made sure it plays out since it sets the mood for every episode. I love the breezy opening of Our Beloved Summer and the moody one for Love Between Fairy and Devil.

The only drama that I’ve never skipped its opening title each episode is Extracurricular. Something so addictive about the music that goes along really well with the visual graphic.

I only watch opening credits during the first & last episodes as to me it signifies the start of a new story & the end of it. (and I just want to get to the story after a week of waiting lmao)

So far one opening credits i LOVED is Our Beloved Summer, everything about it was perfect for the show. It had such soft vibes that made me feel warm inside and the song was so good as well.

The opening titles of Kdramas are generally very nice, no matter if the drama itself is good or not. But they seldom leave a lasting impression on me. The one I can recall is Goblin, mainly because of the "Never far away" OST.

Watch it for episode 1, skip it for all the rest, even if I think it's good. A time thing. Only exception was Taxi Driver - I adore that 20 seconds of music.

1. The Beauty Inside’s opening credits incorporated the soundtrack perfectly and it is stuck in my head. Such a bop🙌🏾

2. I like Start Up’s maze lines in its opening sequence.

3. Tale of The Nine Tailed was good too.

4. There’s no way It’s Okay To Not Be Okay’s opening sequence won’t be here!❣️🙌🏾
