Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 20-26, 2023

Sometimes in ratings land there are clear winners and clear losers, and that’s what we have this week, as we say goodbye to The Heavenly Idol and Kokdu: Season of Deity, both of which struggled through their runs for reasons discussed elsewhere.

As for the winners, Taxi Driver 2 stays strong and hits almost 18%, Divorce Attorney Shin keeps its average up, and the KBS weekender The Real Has Come sees a decent start.

The 3% rise for the new weekender is well deserved (though it may be just a Sunday effect. We will see next weekend.)
Fingers crossed the drama stays good.

Taxi Driver... wow!

What’s happening with Divorce attorney Shin’s figures? They came in at 7.5 week one on both days and have been going up and down each week ever since.

There was no Taxi Driver in week 1, I think 🙂
Otherwise it seems getting stable, close to 6% on Saturdays and fluctuating around 7% on Sundays.

The new weekender THE REAL HAS COME! Debuted to very modest numbers despite the fast start to the story. However, given the way the second episode ended I have to wonder if its third episode could surprise us. The first episodes were really good.

I have to wonder if TAXI DRIVER 2 had an impact on the numbers for the weekender- do they air at the same time? Those numbers are fantastic.

DIVORCE ATTORNEY SHIN is doing well.

I think weekenders air in early evening, like 8 to 9. Taxi Driver airs later, 10-11.

I am not at all surprised at Taxi Driver 2's success, since it follows the tried and true Mission Impossible format, replete with a beautiful hacker and a superhero for whom dispatching 5 thugs is child's play. However, this season has been a little more complex in the villainous circumstances that our justice vigilantes must confront. It also has involved fewer fighting scenes, so I wonder how the week to week ratings compare with Taxi Driver 1 (I'm too lazy to look it up.)

On the face of it, I would say the first season would have a broader appeal because of the simple pleasure of watching Lee Je-Hoon beat up bad guys vs. the moral complexities of contemplating what constitutes an exploitive religious cult or whether the health care system of Korea is set up for fraud.

Then the numbers for TAXI DRIVER 2 are even more impressive- and perhaps also it says something positive about the relative intelligence of the audience as well.
