Crash course is doing great. Looking forward to watching this one when it finishes airing and I know how much I can fast forward through annoying mum’s and killer story lines and still keep up with the bits it does best.

This is just disheartening, honestly. I'm sincerely grateful that MBC made Kkokdu happen as a proof that there is no bad blood between then and KJH (hope it will be enough to end the issue once and for all), but couldn't they give him a not so terribly written drama while at it? No amount of blink-and-you-miss-it witty comebacks at the previous "controversies" related to him (that line about Joseon Annals in Ep6 surely wasn't unintentional considering the fuss around said chronicles being called tabloids in Mr Queen) could make up for the fact that this show is just so painfully pointless. Oh well, I suppose being freshly remembered for being the best thing about flopped show is still better than being freshly remembered for messy backstage drama scandal... I've read he's already considering his next project (maybe even as early as later this year) so let's wait for that.

OBY premiere ratings were exactly what I expected them to be. There is no other sageuk currently, timeslot is not all that bloodbath-ish (sans the trot show), story seems settling in now that the introduction phase is mostly over and word of mouth is rather positive. It just needs to keep the things steady and at least one wow scene this or the next week to create a real buzz. Writer-nim, can you do it?

The analysts and program managers at these TV stations had done their homework to put all the rating breakers on weekend. We can see here that Koreans do prefer watching their dramas on weekends rather than on weekdays. Some of the higher performing ones here even belong to the same timeslot e.g. Crash Course in Romance and Red Balloon ....

Weekdays still are very quiet.

Also; ENA needs to change its programming strategy immediately. Bring in makjangs, sageuks, or veteran actors, or any hit screenwriters that can boost up ratings. As a young TV channel, they really need to build hype. The EAW hype train is long gone and they need to propel with new hits.

Wow--Crash Course is killing it! I really love it, but still, I'm a little surprised it has so solidly hit double digits. I am terrible at predicting what's going to do well with a domestic audience as I never expected numbers like this for any rom com.

I think Interest of Love did about as well as could be expected. And I bet Our Blooming Youth will double these initial numbers.

Because the cast are more mature and much loved by Koreans, the themes are relatable to Koreans (the competitiveness of education, the growth of private academies)
and it is a romcom that blends family, slice of life and mystery. Something that you can't find in many romcoms these days

CRASH COURSE IN ROMANCE is doing well and you can include my wife and myself among its fans.

THREE BOLD SIBLINGS is not gaining much ground even though it now has all the elements of a proper weekender- including a fresh villainess. The writer has done good work before, so it is hard to see why the show simply has not come fully together. The great weekenders like ONCE AGAIN have that quality of pulling you in and making you care about their characters but much of the time we simply do not feel that in this show.

I have been enjoying STRANGERS AGAIN and do not get why it does not have a bigger audience.

Once again is one of my all time favourite Weekenders, largely due to how well the characters were written. They were flawed but relatable people who made mistakes but were simply trying their best, everyone can relate to that.

I suspect Three bold siblings isn't resonating because the characters are flat and a bit two dimensional.

Once Again cared about their characters and it tried to tell a real story. We saw real relationships, real family dynamics, and real people.

3BS is just trying to check all the boxes on someone's "most predictable makjangish tropes" list, the characters don't feel like real people, and I think the writer keeps recycling their scripts from the first episodes because I'm pretty sure some characters just keep repeating the same thing (same situations and same words) every episode. 😆

You are right about how well the characters were written and acted in ONCE AGAIN. But it was also even unique way that standard tropes were deployed. Example: The makeover of the 'plain girl' Dahee: Instead of the male character doing this to the girl and then being pleasantly surprised it is actually the girl who decided to do this to help out her male friend (and former inlaw)- but with the unintended side effect of vastly accelerating his falling in love with her. Rather than something out of character for the girl it was something utterly in character- and that is what made it so dramatically effective.

Once again was superb. It didn't have over the top pantomime characters. Everyone who got upset you could see why and they got over themselves too. I only fast forwarded through the fake sister episodes as that was the only part that was just ridiculous and wrong as her brother was so careful with his money and she caused mayhem in the lovely family. They also had the missing person storyline too many times; the same child was lost twice and then they had the same issue with an adult. I think having young children helps a story feel more real too. Three bold siblings will have the twins but probably only as babies near the end unless they do a time jump.

I can talk about Once Again! I'm extremely inpatient for series over 16 hours. But this one grabbed me for that long. Granted I watched it for the cast, but the story was gripping and the characters were indeed relatable.

Is anybody watching Red Balloon.

If so how crazy is it?

On a makjang scale from Penthouse to Princess Auroa/Temptation of wife

Everybody cheating on everybody. It's a cheating rubik's cube at this point. I may need a chart.

It is quite a tame one, more like family-drama makjang (the writer's specialty) with a lot of slapstick comedy in-between. Definitely not murder mayhem makjang (a la ahem, Penthouse, basically anything by Kim Soon-Ok).

I'm happy Payback did well till the end! I haven't watch the final episodes yet but I bet they were as great as the others.

I love how Trolley and CCIR fans are consistent. I hope they get even more love this week.

I hope Our Blooming Youth's ratings increase this week. It's a nice show.
