Stills, stills, and more stills for Netflix’s The Glory

If a picture is worth a thousand words, these stills are worth… well… let’s just say they give us everything we need to know about the tone of upcoming revenge melodrama The Glory. The much-buzzed Netflix drama stars Song Hye-gyo (Now, We Are Breaking Up) and Lee Do-hyun (Melancholia) — and as you’ve probably heard by now — was written by the Kim Eun-sook (The King: Eternal Monarch, Mr. Sunshine) and directed by Ahn Gil-ho (Happiness, Watcher).

The Glory tells the story of our revenge-seeking heroine, Moon Dong-eun (Song Hye-gyo), who has laid careful plans to pay back the torment she endured during high school. As an adult, she starts her war against Park Sung-hoon (Memorials), Im Ji-yeon (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area), and her husband Jung Sung-il (Our Blues). And here the stills tell us everything we need to know, because these peeps are basically dripping with malice.

Luckily, our heroine is not alone. On her side (though we can hardly call them the good guys?), we have the mysterious plastic surgeon Joo Yeo-jung (Lee Do-hyun) and fellow abuse victim Yeom Hye-ran (The Uncanny Counter).

With a poster, teaser, and trailer in our hands — and now tons of episode stills — it’s clear we’ve got a dark, twisted game ahead. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s probably a good thing the episodes will drop in sum. This one might be better enjoyed as a binge, where the cliffhangers I’m expecting can be immediately sated with more episodes.

Netflix’s The Glory releases 8 episodes on Friday, December 30.

Oh - that unfortunate man bun and whatever that’s happening under it (Imagine that I’m waving my hand up and down at it😂). I recently read somewhere credible that the man buns which are routinely so tightly pulled up contribute to male hair loss and pattern baldness. Someone should tell dudes this is not a healthy look all things said and done.

Happy for Jung Sungil getting a bigger part than he normally does. He always stands out for me whenever he’s on screen. But it’s not enough to make me watch Song Hyekyo...

Just to be clear, from your description . . . This is a series about a intelligent, coherent, woman who wants to destroy the lives of the people who bullied her in high school?

So the supposed heroine of this series is some sort of psychotic and we are supposed to cheer for her while she harms all these people? This is not a horror movie?

😆😆😆...my thoughts exactly! even if it is under horror category, I still need SHK to step up her game and diminish her preassumption beforehand.

People can be intelligent and coherent and still be warped. And as a revenge melodrama, I feel like it would involve questionable stuff. There is a saying that when embarking on a journey of revenge, be sure to dig two graves since you would have to doom yourself too. It'll be interesting to see someone who is the total opposite of a kdrama heroine - even down to the morals. The FL is more like an anti-hero than a heroine.

The bullying in korean schools are really next level with little to no repercussions. I'm guessing the revenge must be as equally messed up in order to "pay back" the bullies.

@As you undoubtedly know, bullying exists globally in all institutions including educational ones. Hazing used to called ‘creating team spirit’ in the militaries the world over and continues unabated in some places. I am not particularly knowledgeable about the incidents and kinds of bullying in SK but any hierarchical society no matter how much it tries to address such issues is imprinted with the vestiges of power dynamics and domination. Children from their families, peers, teachers and school authorities what is tolerated and even encouraged. Systemic global change in a local level takes time and that is if the will is their to reform the system.

Tbh, the only faith I have for this drama is in Ahn Gil Ho and the trailer don’t dissapoint. I guess this one can be double hit or double miss for me. First, whether this will be the first Kim Eun Sook’s drama that I view worth all the hype and praises and second, whether this will be the first Lee Do Hyun’s drama that I admire the writing. I have serious concern with his choice of drama, it’s seems like he chose dramas based on complicated character, and we know he delivered all of his character very well, but the writing of most his dramas were big meh. So I would cross my finger with this one.

I have been regretting his drama choices one after the other since day one. Why can't such a talented and charismatic young actor get a good script and a co-star his own age?

I disagree a bit, Youth of May is very good, and Go Min-Si is around the same age as him (and its still last year).

Sweet Home's writing is not its best strength, but everything else from the production values, the thrills and actions are spectacular.

18 Again, well, when technically Kim Ha-Neul is her pairing all the way but Yoon Sang Hyun is the OTP.

I couldn't finish YoM, dropped it halfway through. It got too manipulative for my taste.

I skipped SH because I can't watch horror.

I finished 18 Again ONLY for him. Disliked everything else about the show.

To each their own I guess.
I still like him A LOT, and look forward to him doing a project I'll love.

Youth of May is just okay for me and that is his best drama.

With Sweet Home and 18 Again like I said, his character is well portrayed, that is proof he is a good actor, but the writing is pretty average.

Don’t even mention Melancholia.

I know right. But on upside, it is admirable of him to play such risque characters. He really showed his talent through this unusual roles. Most actor his age will chose “easy” character like popular, handsome and rich guy falling in love with beautiful girl along the way, but he chose to be a father, a husband, adult trapped in teenager body (not the reverse), or a young lover. Boy don’t play it easy.
