Pride maketh Jung Kyung-ho’s Crash Course for Romance

The promos are in full swing for tvN’s upcoming Crash Course in Romance and while I will always love Jeon Do-yeon (Human Disqualification), Jung Kyung-ho (Hospital Playlist 2) has stolen the show in this round of teasers – dancing his way into my all of his students’ hearts.

Our protagonist Choi Chi-yeol (Jung Kyung-ho) is certainly confident about his brand as one of the country’s top-ranking instructors. But, as hinted in the new stills, a conspicuously dressed Choi will be meeting his match when he visits a neighborhood banchan (side dish) shop, owned by the retired athlete Nam Haeng-sun (Jeon Do-yeon).

Haeng-sun’s character teaser is short but sweet, proudly giving us a back-to-front view of her uniform when she used to play handball for South Korea’s national team. With a happy grin, the camera then pulls back to reveal Haeng-sun’s second and current career: running a banchan business. The array of pretty dishes are lined up neatly in front of her and we read in the shop signs that her banchan are made with the heart of a national athlete.

In Chi-yeol’s teaser, he shows off a Kingsman-inspired dance number and I’m tickled by how super serious he is through all the flourishes and twirls – all the while his unamused back-up dancers look like they’ve been volun-told to take part. As he hilariously boasts about the prowess of math, we then transition to a busy city street where Chi-yeol’s commerical is playing on all the billboards. But they remain unnoticed by our heroine driving by.

With production led by PD Yoo Je-won (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) and writer Yang Hee-seung (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju), tvN’s Crash Course in Romance will be launching next month on January 14.

I miss his ornery but tenderhearted character in Hospital Playlist.

Stupid cultural question. Curly Bangs. Is that a thing like manbangs? Something that exists in Korea but maybe doesn't in other countries?

The Gaus promo song trailer sold the show for me so I am hoping these trailers give a true flavour of this show too.

Hahaha. The promos have been great. Certainly put this drama on my radar. ^^ I just don't know how convincing the romance will be.

Can it be? A true romcom, without any horrible trauma or murder??

Lol. I must have watched the dancing teaser like five times. 😂

It reminds me how much I adored Jung Kyung-ho in FALLING FOR INNOCENCE. I wasn't planning on watching this, but I might have to check it out in case he breaks into dance, and of course, to watch how his pride cometh before fall (as long as it does not involve something tragic - can we steer clear of terminal illness, revenge, and serial killers along with other macabre associates such as ToD in this drama?)

Here for this!! Interesting pairing, and nice to see that despite both leads being taken in rl. That they're cast in a rom-com, I think 7-10 yrs ago this wouldn't have been a thing. But hopefully, it's changing more now.

Also, this writer is underrated, she writes the best romances out there! If Kim Eun Sook is more known for her fantastical romances, then Yang Hee-seung is the more grounded version. I love all of her works and find she just romance with the right amount of comedy and drama (no makjang here!). So I'm hoping its more on the rom-com side!
