Reborn Rich has already exceeded the highest rating for Vincenzo. Song Joong-ki and JTBC must be happy campers right now.

If we ignore Arthdal Chronicles, all of Song Joong-ki's dramas have been hits (Reborn Rich, Vincenzo, Descendants of the Sun, Nice Guy).

Maybe Arthdal was the wake-up call to choose better shows 😬.

Joong-ki had worked with the writers of ARTHDAL before in (TREE WITH DEEP ROOT). That gave him critical acclaim and exposure.
Writer Kim Young-hyun is a hitmaker from the get-go (Dae Jang Geum, TWDR, QUEEN SEON DEOK, SIX FLYING DRAGONS, etc.) It's totally understandable why he picked it.

Re SJK and ARTHDAL. I am with him on this. I am not going back there.
Figure series 1 had 18 episodes at around 80 minutes per episode. I invested about 24 hours in a drama which could not reunite the three things (I have already forgot what they were.) that needed to be reunited. Basta!
SKJ was certainly not the problem.

I actually expected arthdal to be a hit, since writers previous work is always a hit. but it end up getting negative respond thanks to custom and bad cgi.

I actually didn't expected Reborn rich to be a hit. As much as I love the writers previous work, before reborn rich, her latest hits /buzz drama is sungkyunkwan scandal. I Like 60 days survivor, but that drama despite good rating for a cable, it's not a hit. I was worried this drama would be received underwhelming result.

My point is we never know which project that will be a hit. I think Joong Ki has that luck aspect to pick project so far.

Wow, it's so weird to see tvn and jtbc, 2 cable channels that started with very low numbers years ago, having almost the same ratings as SBS, the weekend ratings queen (king? 😅) on Sunday...

Three Brave Siblings is underperforming for a KBS weekender.

Once Under the Queen’s Umbrella ends, tvN won't get these numbers on the weekend because Alchemy of Souls 2 will air.

I bet they can get it from Island once AoS is over

Why not? Their dramas are catching up with better actors, better scripts and better understanding of Korean interest...

Actually JTBC only hit their jackpot recently with Reborn Rich. The last 2 years had been cruel to them, with no double digit shows post the World of the Married. I also noticed quality-wise, the majority of their shows went on decline post that show, with some notable exceptions such as My Liberation Notes or Beyond Evil.

SBS still reigns the free-to-air channel by producing hits on both weekday and weekend slots. I also think that TVN is the current market leader on Korean TV network which constantly both quality and rating hits.

I hope smaller networks can become bigger and grow their ratings more .... for example ENA has yet to find its second double-digit show after EAW, and TV Chosun have quite some hits - but it consists mainly of bad makjangs ...

Yeap..it is high time they relook at their mostly run-of-the -mill and overused romcom trope or dramas that cause the country to go into hoo-ha and rely on idol power (but fail) to lift the ratings up.

I wonder if the underperforming overused tropey dramas bring in money when sold overseas. In the end, it's whether the drama had enough of a profit margin. Some of the overused romcom tropey dramas look pretty cheap to make and if they can just bring in enough to make a good profit even if the domestic ratings are bad, it's great for the studio.

JTBC doesn't have the unlimited budget that TVN has. I'm not a fan of CJ E&M, but we get more cable shows since they can fund them. Also, TVN has been around much longer.
I'm biased toward JTBC. Most of my favorite dramas are from JTBC and their in-house production.
Here is hoping for a better year in 2023.🙏

I wish Under the Queen’s Umbrella ends with its highest ratings next week.

Both Reborn Rich and The World of the Married hit 14% in Ep. 5.

I always wonder about the change in figures between the two days and wonder when they drop if people are watching at a later point and if they climb if they told their friends and more people jumped in. Surprised by the drop for the last episode of Fan letter. Reborn rich and Queens umbrella both climbing for the second episodes, I wonder if they are unaffected by the sports season due to the day or time they air?

Or is it they resonate with Koreans, especially when it comes to history? Dramas that deals with Korean history (whether it is fictional or fantasy) especially those with big stars tend to have huge ratings.

I am more intrigued in the difference between the two episodes released each week why would the second day be lower or higher than the day before rather than the climb or drop over the duration of the season which I would expect to reflect the response to the quality of the storytelling etc.

I always assumed it was primarily plot - that if the first episode ends on a cliffhanger or a significant plot arc will be continued in the same week, then the ratings will rise for the second episode.

Good to see that the ratings are high for historical dramas, especially when it comes to Joseon saeguk and dramas that touches on the history of Korea starting from the 1980's.

The World cup certainly had an impact.

The ratings for THREE BOLD SIBLINGS were disappointing. In all honesty this weekend's episodes were comparatively dull.

PLEASE SEND A FANLETTER should also have done better but I understand that it did not get much publicity as far as regular broadcast shows go because it was only four episodes in total length.

My hypothesis on REBORN RICH is that having three straight episodes was a marketing strategy that worked well given that it also served up Chaebol revenge, reincarnation, etc.

Reborn Rich really shot up fast. SJK has another hit under his belt, but it's Lee Sung-Min who is the standout for me.

I hope Under the Queen's Umbrella can hit 15% next week. I'm impressed by the writer. It looks like it is their first drama, but the pacing and storytelling have been consistently good.

Three Braves Siblings is very disappointing for KBS. They need to work on casting though the next weekender is more promising on that front.

I'm impressed by how forward Under the Queen's Umbrella's writing is with Grand Prince Gye-seong's storyline.

Lee Sung-min is carrying Reborn Rich.

Reborn Rich should be renamed The Chairman because Lee Sungmin is really the heart of the show. I actually don't find the reincarnation plot to be the most interesting part of the story. What's drawing my interest is the chairman's trials and tribulations as he manages his business empire and family members.

@songxrising: it is bloody hilarious though that the actor playing the oldest son (forever known to me as the scary gramps from The King’s Affection) is 52 and his ‘dad’ is a 50 year old actor. And, he is an old 52 year old. Ah, to be a fly on the wall when they were discussing that casting.

I haven't started Reborn Rich yet, though I'm planning to soon, but it sounds like it's one of those that would really fit netflix binge formula, where all the episodes of a series get released at once for ultimate immersion, especially when you're dealing with drama and vengeance.

I need to pick up Under the Queen's Umbrella as well. It's doing really well too. I hope it's getting a lot of buzz too. It's several percentages above Little Women's ratings and I thought Little Women performed quite well too.

Someone on twitter described "Reborn Rich" as the baby of "Succession" and Bollywood film "Om Shanti Om". It feels different from the usual rich family dramas. Despite the fantasy aspect, it is more grounded in reality: while I doubt The Penthouse's Hera club is actual representation of SK's wealthy, It's not hard to believe that the Soonyang Jins are acting like true chaebols (honestly, Soonyang is probably just Samsung with changed names). Things like the use of real news footage, colors, sets and outfits really make it feel more real. I'd say that one of the secrets behind its success is this perceived realness and how historical events are intertwined in the story without them being the main plot.
As for UTQU's buzz, it's not that great internationally, but it definitely seems to be in Korea. Bae In-hyuk (who only does a cameo) was surprised that people recognized him on the street after the role & Moon Sang-min got some 20 advertisement offers thanks to this drama.
