The unglamorous life of a celebrity manager in new teaser for tvN’s Call My Agent

As Korea’s latest foreign remake, tvN’s Call My Agent — which is an adaptation of the original hit French show — has a big name to live up to. Thankfully, with the new teaser that just dropped, it looks like they’ll be keeping that same fast-paced Devil Wears Prada energy in this version.

Call My Agent focuses on the busy professional lives of employees at an elite talent agency and the hijinks that arise in their line of work. Lee Seo-jin (Dr. Park’s Clinic) plays Ma Tae-oh, the director of the agency with a gentle personality but a shark’s business intuition. Working alongside him is Kwak Sun-young (Inspector Koo), playing Chun Jae-in, whose name literally translates to “a genius.” She’s a highly-efficient veteran team leader who has seen all the ins and outs of the industry throughout her many years as a manager. While her workaholic tendencies and hot temper often clash with Tae-oh’s charming demeanor, they have a solid professional camaraderie built off years of having each other’s backs.

Rounding out the agency employees, we also have Seo Hyun-woo (Adamas) playing Kim Joong-don, another team leader who (often naively) strives to be a dependable source of support to his talents, and Joo Hyun-young (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) playing Sohn Hyun-joo, a bumbling rookie manager who always dreamed of working in the entertainment industry. Together, the four will bargain, lose sleep, scream, or whatever else it takes to ensure the best for their talents.

The teaser drops us right into the action. We see our three managers making a mad dash to their client’s filming location by motorcycle, bike, and crazed sprinting, while through the narration, we hear Jae-in ask a wannabe manager if they’re okay with the “long hours, unending sleepless nights, and complete lack of personal life” needed to make this job work. And on the other, more administrative side of the curtain, we see Tae-oh flashing his networking magic over the phone and in-person in an attempt to land his actor’s next magnum opus opportunity.

Amidst the chaos, we end on a voiceover of Tae-oh asking Hyun-joo what she wants to do as a job, and she sheepishly responds: “a talent manager.”

Written by Park So-young (I Hate Going to Work) and directed by Baek Seung-ryong (Pegasus Market), Call My Agent will premiere on November 7 on tvN.

Same here! But not sure if I have time to fit one more show in my already packed watching schedule.

It’s been ridiculous from famine to feast and there is more coming. At least 20th Century girl which is out on Friday is a film so won’t be too hard to squeeze in to the schedule. It is my most anticipated next release.

I was also watching Sandman and attended a Comic Con! (And because of that did a LOTR extended edition marathon) :-D

I was almost planning to come for London Comic Con in November. (Was planning to check with you if you are too far away and can we meet) But it is cancelled for now.

Wow, sounds like you had a great time.

I am not going anywhere until 2023 when the last round of the winter surge in Covid lurgies will be finished 😬

I too have not seen the original but will watch this one even if I do not get to the original. Netflix has four seasons of the French original and they are on my watchlist, but we have never gotten to them.

If you put up with Western immorality, nihilism, and depravity, you will appreciate it.

As for me, I hope the Korean version is cleaner (and I'm confident as I don't think it will be on Dysney or Netflix)

As for me, I find I put up with it quite well. In fact, I feel a rewatch coming on as it is one of my most appreciated non-Korean show since forever 🙂

@old lawyer: You would be wise to disregard the previous comment as I have a strong suspicion this is a disguised homophobic comment because one of the agents is an out lesbian.

Yes, I suspect so. I had watched the first two seasons of it, and all those words doesn't match the show (and I'm from conservative Asian country lmao). It's quite fun. Kwak Sun Young character is out lesbian, but they are treating her relationship like regular human relationship as it should be.

Yeah that user is a known homophobe so I’m not surprised

Thank you for that. I have to admit that I had been scratching my head a bit over it. The world is full of people who see things in many different ways. The real diversity is diversity of thought. Sometimes we will hear things which we simply do not get- it is simply inevitable..

@Oldlawyer: Indeed but hating people for their sexuality is a nefarious and disturbing attribute which usually correlates with other hateful and authoritarian views in my book. I hope you enjoy both versions of the program.

I hope they kept the original relationship between Director and Newbie. Because we know they will change the personal life of the female lead.

I am terribly hesitant of watching this one, because I utterly loved the OG show. Fingers crossed. I hope the adaption works. (They did a great job with Designated Survivor: 60 Days, so there is hope)

I think to appreciate this drama, I need to not think about the French version. Clearly it will be very different.

This one is right up my alley.

On the side - Seo Hyun-Woo looks tired already. That look is gold😂. I can only imagine the story.

Despite my love for Lee Seo Jin, i didn't plan to check this show,
since my 12-kdrama slots this year are full now with The Golden Spoon and Curtain Call would be my 11th and 12th beans of this year respectively.

But then I read this post and saw "Written by Park So-young (I Hate Going to Work)" and I was like "I will definitely check this one!" :D
"I Hate Going to Work" is high on my list of fave Kdramas of all time, so I'll check this one at least for its first week. If it's enjoyable, I think I'll binge it during the year end holiday, because it would be (more) fun to watch a show about people who work hard, so very hard, while I'm snuggling on my couch :p
