Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching
by DB Staff
So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Seasons of Blossom: This drama continues to trample upon my heart. Seriously, the flashback sequences are some of the loveliest and most delicate filmmaking I have seen in a while. I can’t wait for someone to edit these sections of the story into its own mini drama, because I will be rewatching those scenes regularly. Probably forever.
Love is for Suckers: I didn’t want to get sucked into another drama, but I liked the first two episodes so much that I blasted through all four, and now I’m sad I have nothing to watch (*AGONY*). I love Siwon and Lee Da-hee together as much as I thought I would, and maybe even more. Though the drama isn’t doing anything new (omg, kill me with the returning penitent-but-also-cheating exes), the leads are so lovely that I am addicted. Yeo-reum, in particular, is painfully relatable, and I think it’s the realness of her character and her emotions that has me hooked. (I’m a big Jo Soo-hyang fan, too, especially after Love All Play. She can go so seamlessly from arrogant wench to vulnerable human, and I hope we get that arc for her here. Also, what great hair!)

Love is for Suckers: THIS! This is what I need right now. A couple in their mid-thirties falling in love after years of being platonic friends. I love a good rom-com meet-cute as much as the next person, but there’s also something really enjoyable about watching two characters who are already comfortable with one another slowly evolving and seeing each other in a new light. Plus, it’s freaking hilarious. Favorite currently airing drama.
Cheer Up: I have a mighty need for one of these cheer uniforms! What can I say? I’m a sucker for a horsehair braid mini-skirt, and these outfits make me want to dress up and prance around my house. Other than the costumes, though, I’m trying to set aside my Americanized perception of cheerleading (a la Bring It On style), and temper my expectations. When Hae-yi did a complicated backflip during her audition for the team, I was hoping for more acrobatics. I’ve always admired the strength of gymnastics athletes, so I’m a wee bit disappointed that this particular cheer squad is more of the choreographed dancing variety. It’s still fun and interesting in its own way, though.
Love in Contract: I continue to watch this drama for Go Kyung-pyo — to the extent that I want Sang-eun to end up with Hae-jin so I can have Ji-ho all to myself. I joke, but I honestly think Sang-eun and Hae-jin make an objectively better couple, and I wasn’t a big fan of how this week’s episodes inadvertently downplayed the benefits of Sang-eun being in the presence of someone who made her feel relaxed. Yes, comfortableness can be a marker for a good friendship — not just a romantic partnership — but it isn’t exactly the opposite of the nervous excitement of attraction and a new romance, which is kind of what was suggested. In my opinion, the only good thing about the Sang-eun and Ji-ho pairing is that Ji-ho gets more screen time.
Unit
Currently covering: Love in Contract
Mental Coach Jegal: I was right there with Gil when he said his head hurts at the end of Episode 10. I really hoped this drama wasn’t going to include a love line between Gil and Ga-eul, and I was rooting for Gil × Dr. Park and Mu-gyeol × Ga-eul pairings instead. I legit squealed at Mu-gyeol’s declaration of love before his bungee jump, but what is this current situation? They should just scrap the romance in its entirety if this is how it’s going to be. By the way, Ga-eul’s brother really got on my nerves this week. It’s not enough to team up with his sister’s abusive coach, he had to hit her too? In the end it’s not about his sister’s happiness, it’s all about that damned gold medal. Pfft.
One Dollar Lawyer: This last murder case went on for too long, and halfway in, I was already over it. I’m considering dropping the drama, and the only thing holding me back is that we finally got a preview into Ji-hoon’s life.

Young Actors retreat❤️
Episode 7
I know if I had been one of the lucky fans that were in the right place at the right time I would have been like the Ajumma walking around telling the men they were so good looking and staring rather than eating. Like one of the fans said it would have been like being in a drama having so many pretty people doing every day things. I have only ever seen two stunningly gorgeous men in real life that literally took my breath away and had me gabbling like a fool, one was an actor (who just happened to be the pastor’s son) and one was a social worker.
I will be sad to see the season end but it’s been an interesting watch. Like all shows they have focused in on one or two characters but I have enjoyed the group activities.
My guess for the surprise guests is they are either the Director and key behind the scenes people from each drama that they have respect for or some of the older actors from their dramas who are going to be judges for this challenge or give out awards for their participation in the show.
Seasons of Blossom
My favourite drama of the moment because it has the sweetest love story and has stayed true to the essence of the webtoon that I adore.
Love is for suckers
I am enjoying this drama so far and getting to know the characters back stories has been done in an interesting way. I am desperate to know what led the mystery woman to travel to Korea to find Inwoo, she may be demonstrating what he should have done for Yeoreum. I never trusted him. The love he showed in the backstory didn’t fit with his planning to leave the country without prior discussion in the early stages and his reluctance to engage in a long distance relationship so they could both grow in their careers. He is all show and no substance. I am interested to hear more about Jaehoon the model son/doctor etc. until he had a catastrophic event tip him over the edge.
Settling for a vaguely ok relationship just because of the memory of someone being nice rather than being lonely leads to an unhappy marriage which impacts on mental and physical health of the adults and the children of the marriage. I don’t know why people think loneliness is the worst form of unhappiness and is incurable unless you have a partner; the reality often is unhappiness in stereo.
Mental coach Jegal
Loved the retreat and swimmer boy conquering his YIPS when he rescued his love interest. However, I am so not interested in the confused love story line it does not fit with Gaeul’s character so they need to kill that off next week in the first episode.
Gaus electronics
Loved the AI storyline it was Holo love all over again. I still have ZERO interest in Sangshik being with Narae as anything other than colleagues.
Love in Contract
Making me smile more now. I am also experiencing sadness that children are seen as pawns for their parents’ Mergers & Acquisitions project management and the parents are completely blind to the emotional fallout...

Miho seems to have recognised this but turns to marriage to make amends, not sure how an unrequested marriage will solve the problem unless she has recognised Jamie in the pictures with Haejin so wants to get their marriage approved as a last act of support.
Cheer up
The growing collection of men fighting for the attention of the female lead is ridiculous but I am hoping we can get the Scooby doo element out the way and then have a normal college rom com drama.
Three bold siblings
So its official orange eye make up is in as it was on one of the actresses in this show as well as on both female lead and second male lead in Love in Contract last week.
I am going to stick with this show as the fighting Ajummas is proving quite entertaining and counters the evil step grandmother’s antics. I am looking forward to evil grandmother looking a fool for being so proud of her chosen granddaughter in law who is about to be exposed as maintaining two relationships. Everyone is being unfaithful or being a game player in this show I wonder if things will calm down for a bit.
One dollar lawyer
So we finally get to see Jihun’s backstory playing out. I am so glad I read the room and blocked the screen to avoid being traumatised by the end scene. This story line is really good so I don’t think we needed the warm up to see him at work on the murder case to believe he was good at dealing with the complex cases involving those in powerful positions or that he previously worked well with the second lead.
One day or someday Taiwanese
Slow watching this as distracted by other dramas and webtoons.
Dropped:
Golden spoon will follow via weecaps. With so many on the go and a few new ones coming in the next few weeks stress inducing ‘entertainment’ is not on the must watch list.

THREE BOLD SIBLINGS does look like it is leaning towards some fun future conflicts but is still in its set-up stage with too much emphasis on the two lead characters. It is off to a slow start as a true family weekender. But the fighting Ajummas will continue to be a part of the plot.

I do think they did a fairly good job of setting up the confused love line in that I think transferance makes sense here as Jegal is the first and only person Gaeul truly opened to and is also the first person to encourage her to look for what she wants. He essentially helped her find (or refind) her dream while providing unconditional support so I do think it makes sense for her to have developed a crush. That said I have full faith the show will deal with it appropiately, @Unit I am completely confident that the show will not veer into an extremely unethical and icky loveline between the two.

Can’t agree more about Love is for suckers and your thoughts about YR (we’ve talked about this on the weecap). I really hate the cliche that every single person can only be happy if they finally get married. Marriage as a goal is so stupid: yes you won, you got married… but then… you’ll have to live as a married person with the one you married… are you really ready for that?
It’s not only JH who is surviving (and not living) through his depression, YR is not in a better place either.
And yes, IW is shady. He would be even without the loud and big presents, him telling “if you marry me you can’t have male friends”, or the misterious NY lady. He comes back and suddenly says “I have never forgotten you, let’s get married”. I’m sorry but he is using poor YR to move forward.

The first breakup seemed to be a huge communication issue and just not the right timing. It wasn't because he was a cheater or that they fell out of love with each other. Now that the timing is different and they've recognized what they screwed up the first time, the assumption is that the lesson has been learned. Their hearts still flutter for each other, so I can see Yeo-reum easily picking up where they left off, which was right on the cusp of getting married. Marriage seems mostly about a lifelong companion, who shares your values, that you want to sleep with and trust to raise a family with (if you want kids). I can see why Yeo-reum believed that she would get that from this marriage.

Who would think that my favourite show of the week would become Gaus Electronics (4eps). I guess I'm just in the right mood for the show's humour, ridiculous adverts and hilarious Chaebol story 🤣 (those misunderstandings with the senior manager were comedy gold! So was Chaebol's Mom 😄) Btw, I think they should rename Matan to Tantan as a true homage to Tintin 😄
Seasons of Blossom - Hamin's story is so beautifully done! I'm squeeing... and crying at the same time. 😢 It's a shame that Bomi's story is not as good and every week I have the urge to re-read the webtoon to get the goodness back. I wish they didn't make so many changes from the webtoon... and that Jinyoung would be... well... more Jinyoung.
Cheer Up - Sunho and Haeyi have more in common than they thought with their moms with addictions and missing fathers. The theology choice though just seems completely random.
(Who else is humming Go Weeeeeest... whenever they do the cheering?? 😁 )
Contract Lovers - sad and hurt Jiho in episode 7 made my heart hurt. I want him happy. I also want Haejin happy (his family is suffocating). Though I'm not sure that the happiness lies in the relationship with Sangeun... who seems to have the healthiest relationship with her gay friend.
Young Actors Retreat (3eps) - omg, In Youp at the horror school 😂
I also wanted to catch up with 1$ Lawyer and Suckers... but I somehow ended up watching YT videos of Fairy and Devil... and a minidrama Don't Mess With Ex-girlfriend 🙈

Little Women: I had some issues with the last episode but overall, this drama was well acted and especially well directed. I will watch whatever PD Kim Hee-won does because she’s mega talented. In-joo’s wide-eyed stupidity really grated during the trial. I could get past Hwa-young coming back from the dead and even Sang-ah’s hydrochloric acid plot, but I wish the money had stayed lost.
Gaus Electronics: Ma Tan is comedy gold, slumming it by riding his private, chauffeured bus to work and living in his “studio” apartment. Manager Gi misunderstanding and thinking he’s a poor orphan, swooping in to save him from what he thought were loan sharks, was funny.
Love is For Suckers: The tone is much more contemplative than I expected, but I like it. The characters are flawed but relatable. I wanted to shake Yeo-reum for rushing into marriage with a man who made unilateral decisions and then abandoned her, but I can relate to being in your late 30’s and just wanting someone to share your life with. I can’t wait until they start shooting Kingdom of Love 2. It’s going to be fun. I hope Ji-yeon is still around because I really like her.
Love in Contract: Ji-ho is so precious. I just want to protect him. I could just watch a whole episode of him trying to get love advice from the employee message board.
Glitch: Episodes 5-10: I really enjoyed this series: Weird, funny, poignant. I liked that it wasn’t really about aliens or cults but about alienation, feeling like you don’t belong.
May it Please the Court: I like Chak-hee’s growth arc, but Si-baek’s connection to the murder plot is ruining the rest of the drama for me.
The Empire: Hye-ryul needs to tell her son the truth or she’ll end up with her husband’s mistress as a daughter-in-law. Objecting but not telling Kang-baek the real reason why is just going to push him closer to Nan-hee. The set up is definitely there for Nan-hee to be the one who winds up dead, but I doubt anyone from Hye-ryul’s family will be the killer. It will probably be the weird law student.
I wanted to start Yonder, but I guess it is being aired on Paramount+ everywhere but the United States?

Matan in GAUS ELECTRONICS is just fabulous. The show is a true comedy rather than a romcom- as proven by the fact that our SML is NOT in competition for the affections of the FL. Instead, he has his separate SFL- and is in a sort of 'contract relationship' with her, but not the usually fake dating one- this is instead a sort of satirical riff on that trope. Of course, in order to get maximum comedic effect out of that he has to fall in love with her or we would be deprived of the needed Outraged Chaebol Parents theme.
The brilliance of the writer is shown in that SFL. She is not the usual sweet naive Candy who is therefore deserving, etc. Instead, she is a bit more cynical, very well aware of the value of the value of money and too strong for her own good - which is how she ended up in her contract with the SML. But here is the brilliance in this: She may actually be what our overly sheltered, gullible and naive Matan really needs in his corner watching his back every step of the way. In short, the true ideal daughter in law for our Chaebol parents even if they cannot see it (yet). Handled well there is a lot of potential in this plotline.

CRICKET - woah such good start of autumn with Asia Cup
This is timeline of entertaining cricket where strong are not supreme and weak and not without teeth. Series after series, matches after matches it has been proved in past few years. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup when no one thought of them as a contender.
Sri Lanka - economy bad - morale bad - cricket situation bad - 1st match of the tournament lost horribly but after that they took on everyone and at last won the title. huge. This is worth dozen of popcorn buckets.
Bangladesh - gone done - badly - except winning 1st ever overseas test and that too in New Zealand, nothing much to show.
New Zealand - our kiwis - won't cry - after 2019 world cup odi - the only good came was Test championship win - that's it - in pretty terrible situation and players choosing private leagues another big concern.
Cricket is more at international level. More private T20 will make it same as Football - but that's where money is and money decides everything. Female IPL and 100 and BBL also going on so the real fight for audience is happening in Female segment - football made the 1st move but cricket was always in for the more social run but now sweet sweet $$$ - Anyone with sense could have seen this and that's why i kept on talking about female cricket because that's the way to move the game forward. Male cricket with vast resources couldn't do what actually female cricket has achieved in short time. That's market for you.
T20 world cup starting - https://twitter.com/ICC/status/1581107241343746048 - pic looks funny.
More important - Indonesia Vs. Japan Vs. Korea - who will qualify for 2024 world cup - if with good marketing its turned into Japan Vs. Korea pride fight - gains can be good. Its all about marketing and advertising after all.

JAPAN -
Cinema - Full metal alchemist - 4/10 timepass. only goal all 3 movies have is to earn money. That shouldn't be the sole motive for doing to sch quality source. horrible graphics.
Uosgui - 4/10 such good quality manga ruined by ryusei. timepass.
New dramas season started - many are from manga to liv-action. But turning slice of life manga to tv drama - naah i don't want that - especially from these so called actors can't even stand properly.
Since dramas demand much attention i'm watching only 1 and at maximum 2. that's it.

Korea - one of the worst season in previous few years. You can fall as much you can.
2nd half of the year started with typical copy-paste dramatic action where we had cheap labour wife and brothers cosplay where useless plot tool daughter-in-law turned into big female spectacle without any sense.
There are very few professions in depressed land - either u r businessman corrupt, or doctor, or prosecutor to lawyer to police - if nothing then u surely r favoruite of convenience store as well as like to ride delivery scooters - so much for good media and quality and being better than others - delusions galore.
Hero - handsome, smart( every1 other intentionally dumb more so), has to look different so let's add some quirks(not mak any sense, hero can't be normal avg. human being) and intentionally do vulgar display of words through characters so audience could digest 0 weird, strange, odd, lunatic and what not(no logic whatsoever).
The worst show Nam did in recent years - maybe needed money for marriage - It was good when he prepared his body for an action show - that showed efforts and how actor was different from character which most of the times u not see in kdrama land.
Heroines - the less said the better about korean heroines - this year the heroine watching too many wuxia - and this teen(copy paste character) has good personality to look for.
Rest of korean land is still on windows xp. won't use 2005 from now on for such media.
The only hope is DECEMBER now.

Turikish - I'm done with it. no more for 2022 - good to see ore than 9 getting cancelled. such writers not deserve anything. bigger problem is audience that is actually still swarming for same soap-opera garbage where things not match - those ratings - woah.
We have a rich guy sleeping with new girl every week, forcefully married to heroine, a family where how many are cheating!!?(orgy it is), revenge, some ca action woah, typical rich trash wow - ratings high - quality writing. Not only this one. Then we have so many korean to turkish remakes(source is trash then how come you will produce something good?)
headache - i'm done with it.
CHINA - too much fluff - too much white coated faces - those voices - action meh. waiting for some slice of life.
female coach romancing a teen not makes for a good romance when load of things are flip the table mode.

Also watching:
- Seasons of Blossom (Episode 9-10) - Mood: D+
- Cheer Up (Episode 3-4) - Mood: D
- Love is for Suckers (Episode 3-4) - Mood: D
Little Women (Series review) - Mood progression: C- / D+ / D / D+ / D / D
The biggest loser from this show would have to be Kang Hoon whose character made negligible impact on the whole plot and hence did not get the chance to show his acting skills. The writer also gets flak because Jong Ho was a character that was spotlighted in promotional materials while the written content was only fitting for a cameo role? But man did Kim Go Eun try to elevate this lazy makjang plot with her acting during the peak of the Singapore arc, only for the writer to just let her be a damsel in distress afterwards? The show was about the sisters until it just wasn’t.
Glitch (Series review)
You know it’s a terrible ending when the writer tries to pull a twist where there were actually aliens even though the cult leader actually believed otherwise, then another twist where the aliens don’t look like baseball players, followed by one final twist where the boyfriend sees green alien. Either you commit to the cult nonsense or you don’t: this doesn’t work.
Gaus Electronics (Episode 3-4) - Mood: C-
I knew that Hae Young was going to be irritating: please let that cliffhanger be the end of the first love arc? It’s a setup for the fake dating arc between Sang Sik and Na Rae, right? I’m not enthused about that either though. The narrative’s packed with lots of chaos but it needs to be grounded in some narrative direction: right now everything’s one big mess.
The Golden Spoon (Episode 5-6) - Mood: D+
It’s obvious that Tae Yong didn’t kill Joo Hee’s father because the guy was shown to be traumatised just by the sight of guns, also, it’s impossible to recover narratively from the character assassination. The presence of stepmom/brother in the story likely suggests he was framed for the US incident unless writer added them only for company takeover cliche.
Love in Contract (Episode 7-8) - Mood: D+
Thankfully, Ji Ho did mention about the ex previously to Sang Eun: at least she’s not totally caught off guard? Hae Jin’s actions are baffling: why drop yet another marriage bomb on Sang Eun, didn’t you want to hide her from your family? It sucks to see Gwang Nam’s arc become tied with Hae Jin and Yoo Mi Ho: if anything he deserves a sappy romance arc.
Blind (Episode 7-8) - Mood: D+
Tae Ho identified the masked person as Yoon Jae, who then sedated Sung Joon who remembers himself as Yoon Jae: I hope the show doesn’t go the mistaken memory route but that seems inevitable. I wonder if there’s a possibility boy 24 never died: there’s the brothers, spectacles and chef, that’s 4 suspicious guys but only boys 11-13. Where’s the corpse!

That is typical korean office romance comedy drama that usually air every year and go mostly are not watched by foreign audience. This time around this has attracted attention maybe because of people involved in it. not a single thing is new in this one. Biggest nonsense is trying to be funny that having natural humour. Both males are saving this show a little bit.
Who is - that show is your typical action kdrama and using the same tricks of this genre but still i think it is far better compared to any other airing show right now - does any1 have answer - yeah yeah - writer is somehow able to keep it.
muh late 30s - muh no relationship , muh friend to lovers garbage with everything copy paste from 2005 . who even allowed this writer to enter the office. ban the writer and fire whoever approved this garbage.
Teens - nothing but romance - and galore of cliches n tropes. good is heroine who can cry and does have personality for being a korean heroine.

These cliff hangers in MAY IT PLEASE THE COURT and COACH JEGAL can only be misleading to shock the viewers and make sure they come back.
I do not believe that Jwa Si-Beak is really the killer, there are other characters who are far more suspicious. I prefer this drama now over ONE DOLLAR LAWYER, the leads are very good together.
I don't think that Yoo-Mi confessed a romantic love to her coach, there are other forms of love, too. She is so happy to succeed as an athlete now and she knows it is due to his total support (compare this to her brother!). This drama remains firmly in my favourites list, next to my current top favourite GAUSS ELECTRONICS.
LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS is catching up fast, the story is not new, but so much fun to watch.
Unfortunately I am yawning my way through LAW CAFE and LOVE IN CONTRACT, may drop them or watch to the end to earn a bean.
Dropped GOLDEN SPOON for its over the top misery.
Also watching CHEER UP, because I like the costumes. Again, nothing special plot-wise about this drama - that is what the FF button is for!. The FL is putting a lot of energy into her character, a little less would be better. In contrast to the ML who could do with a little more energy.

The Law Cafe 4 more episodes...
Cheer Up I don't see the difference between a highschool and college difference with this one.
Mental Coach Jegal I really wanted Ga-Eul not to fall for Gil, I hope it's just her misunderstanding her feelings and she will end with Mu-Gyeol.
Love is for Suckers After 4 episodes, the TV show has not started yet.
Gaus Electronics There are funny moments and there are some that are not my kind of humor.
The Golden Spoon At this point, I want to see Tae-Yong becoming stronger because he has people to protect as Seung-Cheon. I want Ju-Hee become stronger too and not being dependant from the 2 male leads. I don't really care about Seung-Cheon...
One Dollar Lawyer Can we stay in the past?
Seasons of blossom I think I want the story to stop here... I don't want to see the rest... 😥
May it Please The Court Everything is coincidence!
Young actors' Retreat I'm impressed by Kim Yoo-Jung being the chief of her team and guiding them to make the food. This show made me love more Kwak Dong-Yeon, he really has a good personality and it's nice to see him getting closer with other people. I'm totally with the customers who said they are too many hot people and they didn't need to watch their phone :p
House on Wheels I want a tiny house too! They really found a beautiful beach to settle down. Rowoon was a cute puppy and A-Joong playing cham cham cham with the camera was really funny. Sung Dong-Il and Kim Hee-won are so funny. I love their relationship.

It does look good but then we have a so called intelligent, competent female of a big big law firm whose purpose is to sell some cheap coffee and make hero standout. Father-son bout and everything looked far better.
Worst coincidence for audience, good for the writer. too much to ruin the story and again we have a korean heroine - n that u not call development, leave any growth whatsoever for the uncertain future.

For the FL, it is the same... she's from a big law firm, she's from the family who owns it and she doesn't do anything. At least, Lee Chung-Ah is a good actress and made me like her character.

This is what these korean writers do - fill the profile but do nothing - very much fake resumes - skills only on paper. she's soft enough to bring smile and that's why i'm waiting for today's episode to make the final remarks.

Golden Spoon: I'm getting annoyed at Seung Cheon (or the writer?) because it looks like he's the only one who knows everything and get to choose what he wants to do. Poor Tae Yong has to "follow" whatever decision Seung Cheon takes.

The idea of extracting and storing memories isn’t new. Most recently, Jennifer Egan’s The Candy House imagines a vast bank of memories available to anyone whose own memories have been uploaded to it, like so many TikTok videos. One of the advantages of this is also mentioned in YONDER - it would certainly help people with Alzheimer’s disease and other brain disorders or injuries. But whereas Egan seems mainly concerned with the question of how far we should share our thoughts and feelings, Yonder goes one step further. The memories extracted by the mysterious organisation By N By are not just accessed but apparently used to recreate consciousness, like that of Han Ji-min's character Ji-hoo. With sufficient memories, many of them intersecting since they'd belong to people who have had direct or indirect contact with one another, apparently even large parts of the world could be recreated.
While I am fascinated by Yonder’s premise, I found the first three episodes excessively tasteful and rather listless. I love Han Ji-min and Shin Ha-kyun, but do we really need another winsome wife - an artist, no less - popping off, leaving her husband to grieve in blindingly white casual-chic interiors? I was more interested in the man whose late wife’s consciousness is reconstructed from someone else's memories of her; the woman whose meagre memories of her distant father are used to create the father she has always wanted; and, most of all, Dr Jang Jin-ho, the man in the white safari suit who says “Good night. Good dying.”

One Dollar Lawyer: 7.5 Day 7 - yet another FHoD (Falling Human of Doom) strikes a poor innocent parked car. What kind of precision guidance system do they have that they never miss?
Gaus Electronics: 8.0 "Kimchi is hard to clean" :) :) And giving people the (ring) finger.
Cheer Up: 7.0 Featuring recurring appearances of Stage Light of Doom. When I get my time machine working I want to show the routines to the pep squad from my old high school days in the 1960s.
Law Cafe: 5.5
May It Please the Court: 6.0 Jung Ryeo-Won is good, but not good enough to turn this into a good show.
Love Is For Suckers: 8.0 Everything about day 3 was good except the noisy upstairs neighbor bit -- I've had enough of that in real life and don't need it intruding on my escapism. And did I miss something or did day 4 not have any dirty jokes?
Love in Contract: 7.0
Yonder: __ I 💤-ed out after about 15 minutes.
I "live watch", but I rarely watch a whole episode at once. If show is interesting I might watch half an ep, do something else for a few minutes, then finish it off. If it's less interesting I'll be dozing off and rewinding, and there will be more and longer breaks as I check news websites, fix snacks, check whether subs have finally come out for better shows... It may take more than a day to finish one ep, and then if here are too many cases, characters and complications I lose track. Currently Law Cafe, Love in Contract and May it Please the Court are all slow-watch, but at least Contract is simple enough so I can follow it, so it gets a decent score. Court gets a low score because I have more trouble following it when half-asleep. Cafe gets a low score for being more boring.

One of our new favorite on-air shows is GAUS ELECTRONICS. Not every joke works but over-all this sow is really entertaining. Our ML has finally had to confront the truth (make that truths) about his crush while our FL continues to be exasperated with him- it has not yet dawned on her that this guy has somehow gotten under her skin, nor what that really means. Which is exactly perfect because it is way too soon for a romance in their enemies to lovers story: We and they are a very long way from that moment when the fact that they are perfect for each other can even be suggested. Is there going to be a secondary romance? The jury may still be out on that.
LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS is our other new favorite. With Choi Siwon and Lee Dahee as the leads how could it not be?
This week my wife watched the Chinese Costume drama SIDE STORY OF FOX VOLANT. It kept her up late. This is what is known as a solid recommendation.
She completed the season ending eighth episode of THE RINGS OF POWER on Amazon Prime. It is visually stunning- great cinematography- and on the whole she liked it but story wise it simply is not THE LORD OF THE RINGS.
She also finished LITTLE WOMEN. She loved it to the end and found the ending satisfying.
She also loveD the first four episodes of CHEER UP.
The C-drama A ROMANCE OF THE LITTLE FOREST was a pleasant watch.
The new weekender THREE BOLD SIBLINGS is still largely devoted to the story of our oldest sibling and the ML, but we are starting to see the beginnings of the plotlines for our two younger siblings. Thanks to an “open mic moment” (cell phones are dangerous that way) our middle sibling discovered that his girlfriend was definitely cheating on him while our beautiful maknae is now about to have her heart broken as well. Their stories have to start somewhere and now they have to some extent. What is different is that our middle brother really did not have much of an emotional investment in his fiancé - he was going to marry her because she was nice to his family and his mom liked her- leading to a scolding by his Unni: She is the only one who is supposed to sacrifice for her family! Maknae just wanted to marry- but at least she definitely had her heart into what she was doing.
I recommenced my watch of OJAKKYO BROTHERS but as a result fell behind on ONE DOLLAR LAWYER and some other shows as well.

The Law Cafe. Dropped. I feel this drama is the new WWSK, lots of boring kisses and nothing to tell. I really like Kim Yu Ri (I always love Seyoung’s characters) but I couldn’t care less for the story, and I am learning from last year’s mistakes.
Love is for suckers. I liked this week’s episodes better than the premiere. As I said in the weecap, I don’t really like the leads, and I am waiting for the drama to tell the story we were promised: HJ being casted in Kingdom of Love 2.
Love in contract. My absolute guilty pleasure. I can’t begin to say how much I am enjoying this silly drama, but I’ll give you a hint: A LOT ☺️. I’m obviously on team JiHo, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like HaeJin, because I do and he is such a good boy. I particularly like how comfortable SangEun is by his side. I hope he realises what he feels is not love. All three leads have painful childhood and I root for them to form they own family based in love.
Gaus Electronics. I watched the first two episodes… what have I watched? It’s so ridiculous and over the top that I think I love it. Hope to catch up during the weekend.
I am also (very) slowly watching Adamas, and I want to try Glitch and Yonder and suddenly realised I never watched second part of Tracer because I was waiting to have all subs… I have lots of homework to do!!!

I already miss LITTLE WOMEN. :(
LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS: Of the three currently airing romcoms that I'm watching, this is the clear favorite. As with Law Cafe (and NOT with Love in Contract), I love and understand both leads. But what makes this one truly unique is that it's somehow perfectly blending standard friends-to-lovers cliches (the almost-kiss, for instance, or the idea that these two would be together if the timing had ever worked out) with some real surprises. For one, I never expected the reunion with the ex to lead so quickly and definitively to marriage. There, again, the likely twist that the ex's NY ex is pregnant is perhaps predictable, but still, I'm dying to see how everything plays out. And finally, this is a romcom that's actually really funny, which is always a plus.
GOLDEN SPOON: I haven't watched ep 8 yet, but I'm a little frustrated with this one. It started so strong, and I feel fickle saying this, but whereas I initially appreciated how dark it was, now it's too much. When people start selling organs, I feel like we've headed into makjang territory and the class commentary (and emotional poignancy that goes along with it) is losing its effectiveness.
LOVE IN CONTRACT: I'm kindof baffled as to why I'm watching this show. I continue not to much care for the FL (still see her as some kind of male fantasy of the perfect woman rather than a real person), I like Go Kyung-pyo's performance but would rather watch his character end up with someone else, and I'm bummed that Hae-jin was immediately written off as a real option. There are interesting moments, and sometimes the humor lands, but I see myself dropping this one before it's over.
After watching the first four episodes in their entirety, I've skipped around with Seasons of Blossoms. The flashbacks are lovely and beautifully shot but the present day arc just isn't grabbing me. I'm also losing interest in Law Cafe. The romance is working, but the surrounding story isn't compelling enough.

LIC - Still on ep 6 but yes the FL is just a fantasy. I said before she is unlikable and unrealistic. It is disturbing that this perfect woman should have such a neurotic relationship to her parent figure. She can do a hundred jobs but has no real interest of her own. She knows what every guy needs. She is supposedly very pretty, educated, kind and polite. We have had several robot characters that had more personality than her.

Yes, for someone so 'charming' she's demonstrated a pretty sharp tongue and a lot of impatience. The parent figure seems quite neurotic herself; their relationship seems completely unrealistic as well as uninteresting.
I feel we're collectively edging closer to solving the mystery of what exactly the LiC characters are. Robot vampires?

They wish they were interesting enough to be vampires, even robotic. I do like JiHo though, he is the only reason I haven't dropped this drama. This kind of character is like a small puppy to me, I have trouble kicking them out.
His reasons to hire her are also kind of interesting but drama until ep 6 hasn't explored them.

Only thing on the agenda for me this week was Glitch. And I really liked it! I loved now knowing what to believe for almost the whole thing and I liked that I could keep making theories and then the show would throw another wrench in them. It actually made me wish that Netflix would have released this drama a couple of episodes per week to mimic dramas that get broadcast elsewhere, because I think it would have been so fun to talk about theories with other Beanies.

I finished Adamas atvthe very rare speed of one episode a day. (Sometimes even less)
It was too stressful to binge but also very unlikable. Like I stopped the moment the episode eneded and forgot about it until sometime in the next few days, which is usually a sign that it will get dropped but the power of Ji Sung brought me back.
A few short notes:
1. I guess I'm the only beanie who prefered Soo Hyun to Woo Shin. WS's noble idiocy made me angry.
2. Once again, am I the only one who never thought Hye Soo was a grey character? She was on a path of destruction from the very beginning. Even after she was told that the chairman wasn't the twin's father's murderer she kept pushing them to take their revenge on him, while she was very much able to condone what team leader Lee did and even partner with him. It was obvious to me that she wanted much more than MJ's revenge.
3. Final episode was bad. And boring. Which was quite a feat after 15 breathtaking episodes.
4. But also, I got one of the most satisfying scenes EVER in this drama. When Agent Choi pulled his gun and went straight to the chairman and shot him without stopping for a gotcha second I screamed BRAVO! I'm not a bloodthirsty person but honestly at that point I was itching for somebody to do just that. And I loved it. I was sad that nobody did the same to Sun. I don't care what human rights say. Some people are not human.
But also, the scene where HS brought the housekeeper in to kill him, I hated that scene. HS was a hair's breadth away from getting on my above list by the end of the show.
Phew, on to the next show.
I started Duel. Which seems to be a very unsuitable choice after Adamas. It is too violent it is too unlikable. And worse than all there is no Ji Sung.
I have finished episode 4. The director has a weird way of showing the ending of the episode first and then rewind, which is even worse than untasteful previews. Right now I have no incentive to start episode 5.

—Gaus Electronics: this show is my happy place. 💚
—Seasons of Blossom: I want the drama to only show us the happy flashbacks. Now that summer started I'm scared T.T
—Birthcare Center (binge watch): instant favorite. 10/10
—The Love in Your Eyes: I just love the leads. I want the romance to start!
—Love is for Suckers: everytime I see the SL my head hurts.
I love Jin Yeon! I think I only kinda like Jae Hoon when he's with her. I guess he tries to act like a decent person around her after what she said the first time. Anyway, I'm gonna miss her. She's adorable.
PS. It was so weird for me that her friends or parents didn't give Yeo Reum a warning about that dude, or at least the marriage. Well, let's say her parents are desperate to see her 40yo daughter getting married, but her friends? Damn.
She actually seems like the type that would listen. She was literally going around asking "should I get married" and no one said "no". That's sad, imo.
—Golden Spoon (EP 5): the time jump felt weird, the focus on the romance too.
—On the Verge of Insanity (EP4): I was going to rewatch Love Affairs in the Afternoon but now I can't because I don't want to see Lee Sang Yeob's face. 😠😂
—Twelve Nights (half of episode 1 lol): I'm going to put it on hold but I really liked the vibe of the show.
—Rommie 82773 (or something like that) BL - uri landlord is in love with his friend, right? I have the feeling that guy is using him.

I don’t want to spOil but VERGE with great performances snuck in to be one of my favorite dramas last year which I almost skipped and I think most who watched would agree that writer-nim Jung Do-yoon provided a terrific ending which is unusual in kdramaland. Gaus Electronics (up to ep 4): Even more hilarious this week, with the highlight being Ma-tan's mom's reactions and Aziz's blatant dislike for Hae Young. I'm glad that Sang-shik finally got a clue. It was 2nd hand embarrassment watching him chase after Hae-young.
Three Bold Siblings: Rooting for Tae-joo to find a sense of belonging. Not sure if I will stick with this for long since there are so many annoying characters, and I can't warm up to the Sang-joon.
May It Please the Court: The drama that I reach for immediately nowadays. I really love Chak-hee and Si-baek's dynamic. Cute, yet mature. I loved how that client, who was a victim of Jangsan and that police chief, stood up for herself in court. Would hate to see Si-baek's brother as the vigilante killer.
Love is for Suckers: Started it and really like it. I'm Yeo-reum's age, and I felt like I could relate to her and as rushed as it felt that she would agree to marry her ex, I totally understood. Lee Da-hee and Choi Si-won are perfect in their roles, and I was happy to see Choo Soo-hyang being charismatic as always!
Mr.Bad (up to ep 13): C-drama even though I have so many I'm planning to finish. Super cute and had me LOL-ing. The humor seems a notch above most cdramas. The actors have a deft handle on comedic timing both in banter and in physical comedy and they have fantastic chemistry with each other. Both male leads are hilarious in how weirdly they handle crushing on their ladies.

A Business Proposal: This was fine and breezy. For me, Kim Se Jeong was the standout, both acting and character-wise.
Love Like the Galaxy: About 20 episodes in and really enjoying this so far. Not exactly what I was expecting, but in a good way. I mean most shows with "love" in the title don't feature a female protagonist who's an awkward, angry, manipulative teenager with a passion for structural engineering, and I'm here for that. I also really enjoy the complex family dynamics and nuanced characters - it immediately reminded me of Story of Minglan, so it didn't surprise me to learn that it was based on a novel by the same author.

1. Love between Fairy and Devil (Cdrama): I finished this show, consisting of 36 40-minute episodes, within 3 days. And this is my FIRST Cdrama that I have watched until the end! There were a lot of things I wasn’t used to see in shows as I had been watching only Kdramas.. but it was a very refreshing and satisfying watch. What is interesting is that I just discovered that dramas give you insights into the culture, and I was pleasantly surprised by many Chinese cultural references/beliefs I saw through this drama. What impressed me the most was the acting chops of these young generation actors and actresses - the best one is the ML (Dylan Wang) who is just around 21-23 years old but he could pull of such a complex character so brilliantly. This is definitely among my best shows this year.
I wish DB recapped this drama. 😎 I believe the threads would be on fire. 🔥

The Untamed: Everyone was right this show does just keep getting better as it goes along. It’s so good! I’m on episode 42 now. Love both the leads and the juniors (and TBH I think of Wen Ning as a junior at heart), wish they hadn’t killed off all the good women characters even if it made sense for plot purposes.
Love in Contract: Really loving GKP and PMY together. It makes sense to me that they’re both so guarded, given their histories and that they’ve been having dinner together for 5 years without anything happening. I know a relationship between Hae-Jin and Gwang-Nam is likely not in the cards, but thru would be very fun together!
Romance of the Little Forest: This is a frustrating show because it has a lot going for it — two super charming leads and a long sequence in a very pretty small town, but spends so much screen time on the completely terrible B plot which is both offensive and boring. I’ve just been FF through all their scenes, which makes the episodes v short!

I'm watching One Dollar Lawyer and the credits keep tricking me into thinking I'm in for some high energy wacky, quirkiness and instead I'm treated to death and ominous atmospheres.
The thing I find interesting about Blind is I like seeing if I'm right about the things I'm thinking. For instance, did this person really do this thing and if so, why and how? I feel like the show is predictable in some aspects but just because as a viewer I got there first, doesn't mean I can't enjoy seeing how the show gets there.
The Golden Spoon is an interesting one too because each week, I just keep wondering how will these characters get out these situations.
I'm also watching The Law Cafe. I feel like I get what I signed up for with that show which is just something relatively light. Yeah, it has serious situations too but the look is light and comforting (I really like the set design of the show). It has Joon who is just the most wholesome part timer. The leads also make me smile. After a weekend full of wealth inequality and violence, it's nice to just have something where one of the problems is annoying PDA.
I think in the past week I've also watched some classics, Stove League, Kingdom, and Love in the Moonlight. I'm *REALLY* not into historical dramas but I saw somewhere that LITM a popular one and the premise seemed fun enough. In the end, I'm just curious what happened to the babies.
The show has a whole didn't leave an epic impression on me though I did think I could see why it's popular.

This week, I giggled my way through THE KILLER IS ALSO ROMANTIC, thank you @darwi for that recommendation. A short, sweet drama about the difficulty of keeping secrets from your spouse. It was delightful.
DATING IN THE KITCHEN (movie): Since this was a movie, I chose to ignore the bad feeling in my gut the male lead's abusiveness caused in the first few minutes and continue on. Unfortunately, this feeling never subsided and I don't even know what the director was doing towards the end.
Kiss Goblin: The exorcist was weird, I wish they'd dived in on his obsession a bit, but the leads were cute and I liked the ending.
It's Okay To Be Sensitive: This short slice of life drama with focus on trashy encounters isn't really my jam but Kim Young Dae is and I like the slow depiction of friends to lovers.
Maid's Revenge: Since the thing with the stabbing, I'm begun snorting a lot and I'm not sure I'm gonna make it to the end.
Still watching the intermittent episode of Fall In Love, A Dream of Splendor and Law Cafe and among them, the latest is the one each episodes are growing further apart. I love the leads, that's why I'm still watching. The plot, not so much. Still loving the two former dramas. Tan Xuan Lin is quickly becoming one of my favorite leads ever. I need to check out this actor's previous works, he's somewhat genius.

I think this happened to me too after I watched KNG in Live Up to Your Name. I imagined what it would be like if he had been cast instead of the ML in many dramas I watched after LUTYN.

Wow, you're quite busy (or not?)! I only have so much time in a week to follow two from your list and binge a couple of retros (plus 'House of the Dragon' on the side).
That cliffhanger in 'Love is For Suckers' is maddening! Why was the wedding called off? Who was the mystery lady? It seems in bad taste for ML to make a move now, so will he stay in the friend zone and help FL recover for the second time?
'Love in Contract' is still squeal-worthy. I loved how Sang-eun quietly faced off with Hae-jin's mother over fancy tea, and how the latter's Secretary was better at appraising her. This was like the Princess and the Pea. I also felt the show tried hard--and failed in my case--to win the audience over to Hae-jin's side, perhaps to balance out his jerky move of introducing Sang-eun as his fiancée without giving her so much as a heads up. At some point we will get a scene where people from Hae-jin's side will find out she's Ji-ho's wife (and/or vice versa). I'm pretty sure it will be ugly, but for now I'll just enjoy the MWF scenes on the 2F.
