News bites: October 29, 2022

Lee Jae-wook, Hong Su-ju, Jun

  • In another fight between the rich and the poor, a new drama called Royal Loader is in the works, with Lee Jae-wook (Alchemy of Souls) in the lead alongside Hong Su-ju (Lovestruck in the City) – and possibly Jun (a.k.a. Lee Jun-young) (May I Help You), who is currently still in talks. Production is currently in the planning stages and will start filming in 2023. [Star News]

  • New character posters have been released from SBS’s The First Responders, featuring our story’s three EMS heroes: Kim Rae-won (L.U.C.A.: The Beginning), Gong Seung-yeon (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls), and Sohn Ho-joon (Was It Love). Written by Min Ji-eun with PD Shin Kyung-soo at the helm, the action drama premieres in two weeks on November 12. [My Daily]

  • The main lineup for Wavve’s new webtoon-adaptation Deal has been announced, confirming Yoo Seung-ho (Moonshine) in the lead role while his two friends will be played by Kim Dong-hwi (Forest of Secrets 2) and Yoo Soo-bin (Human Disqualification). We also got news that Lee Joo-young (Times) will be making a special guest appearance. Filming for the crime-thriller is set to begin once the full cast has been finalized. [News1, Xports News]
  • As awesome as Kim Mi-kyung (Welcome to Wedding Hell) is as our (deservingly) beloved K-drama mom, I’m excited to see that she’s trying on a different skin for SBS’s upcoming Trolley. As a former judge, her character will be a powerful politician and the leader of her political party. Starring Kim Hyun-joo (Hellbound), Park Hee-soon (A Model Family), and Kim Mu-yeol (Juvenile Justice), the mystery-melodrama is slated to air this coming December in SBS’s Monday-Tuesday slot. [MBC]

  • A fun new poster has dropped for MBC’s fusion sageuk The Forbidden Marriage, featuring a Joseon-style notice board where we see some pun-filled comments denouncing the crown prince, demanding to remove the royal seal and pleading to let the public get married already. Launching December 9 in MBC’s Friday-Saturday slot, the rom-com stars Park Joo-hyun (Love All Play), Kim Young-dae (Shooting Stars), and Kim Woo-seok (Military Prosecutor Doberman). [MBC]
  • Over on tvN, the newest poster for Behind Every Star is formatted like a magazine article, featuring our talent agency group in a two-page photo spread. Starring Lee Seo-jin (Dr. Park’s Clinic), Kwak Sun-young (Inspector Koo), Seo Hyun-woo (Extracurricular), and Joo Hyun-young (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), among others, the comedy will be coming to our screens in just over a week on November 7. Displaying these posters in this way really does emphasise the role they play in giving us a feel of the drama to build anticipation. I am loving the styling for the last two. The first responders is so loud and busy you can literally hear the sirens.

2. Just be here already. I hope we'll be seeing them in work garbs more than unnecessary shenanigans.

4. Former Judge turned Powerful politician and leader of her political party. Daebak! This isn't what I expected but all the same I'm this excited. It'll cap it up completely if Kim Mi-Kyung turns out to be the villain of the drama but I don't that to be the case. Give that one to someone else.
Kim Mu-yeol... I hope he flexes more muscles than he did in Juvenile Justice.

5. The Forbidden Marriage. The title alone is a watch-bait.

6. Oh Finally. It's next week :)

“Royal loader”? Whaaat? This makes no sense in English. A loader is a piece of equipment so what is this supposed to mean???

What's funny is we can't even blame a translator for that. I checked the original article, and they actually just transliterated "Royal Loader" into Korean. So it has to be someone in the drama department/the writer themselves? who wrote the title.

1. The cast is good but can dramas come up with something besides the battle between the rich and poor.
2. I like Gong Seung-yeon and Sohn Ho-joon but this doesn't interest me much.
3. This sounds interesting. I hope it's good for Yoo Seung-ho's sake.
4. Great cast but yet another plot revolving around politics. Sigh.
5. I'm still not sure about Kim Young-dae but this looks like a good role for Park Joo-hyun.
6. I really hope they don't deviate too much from the original.

1. The title seems to be a transliteration into Korean of the English words, and some articles call it "Royal Roader" instead so who knows. I'm just disappointed that yet another favorite actor will be doing yet another chaebol drama - and yet I will almost certainly tune in.

Also another downer about this is that, according to MDL, this will be a Disney plus production. So probably kiss US viewers goodbye.

Lee Jae-wook I am looking forward to catching up with you in ALCHEMY: Season 2 in December.

I can't begin to imagine what a Royal Loader is. Is it a grifter? Royal grifter? 😂

I love the creativity of the posters. Looks like they are all levelling up at trying to capture our attention.

Surprisingly, I want to check out The First Responders. I badly want the show to be good since I like the leads.

I am hoping SBS’s FIRST RESPONDERS will be available on a legal stream in the US. I have not seen anything official yet.

Of course it should be available on Kocowa/Viki but that is not a given anymore for Big Three network dramas.

I sure hope it will be available in one of the usual legal streaming sites.
