Kang Haneul is ready for his close-up in KBS’s Curtain Call

With the premiere now just days away, KBS’s Curtain Call has been pushing out their last round of promos, including a beautiful new poster and video teaser.

At the center of the poster is our story’s head matriarch Ja Geum-soon – played by Go Du-shim (Our Blues) – who accomplished great things during her long life except for one desperate dream. While fleeing during the Korean War, she was separated from her husband and child, and to this day she hopes of seeing her lost family again.

This brings us to Kang Haneul’s (Insider) Yoo Jae-hun, a struggling theater actor who is approached one day by Granny Geum-soon’s aide – Sung Dong-il (If You Wish Upon Me). Although it’s not a conventional acting job, Jae-hun’s heart (and wallet) can’t refuse the offer. All he has to do, after all, is simply make Granny happy by becoming her long-lost grandson for just three months. What could go wrong?

In the meantime, Granny’s actual granddaughter Park Se-yeon – played by Ha Ji-won (Chocolate) – is working tirelessly to preserve Granny’s legacy. But her biggest obstacle is eldest brother Park Se-joon – played by Ji Seung-hyun (Why Her) – who is currently the largest shareholder and is looking to sell. (On a side note, I’ve never seen one of Ji’s characters smile that widely before and I don’t know whether to be smitten or scared.)

The new  teaser opens with our hero explaining his new “acting” job, helpfully providing Granny Geum-soon’s backstory. But when Jae-hun is presented to the family, the ever suspicious Se-joon orders a background check – leading us to the mysterious Noh Sang-hyun (Pachinko).

With Jung Ji-so (Hellbound) acting as Jae-hun’s wife, Granny’s aide confirms that she and Jae-hun are simply temporary guests. We then jump to chaebol businessman Kwon Sang-woo (Critical X) who re-appears in Se-yeon’s life. But Se-yeon’s eyes are only on Jae-hun and the video teaser ends on her hope that Jae-hun will stick around.

Written by Jo Sung-keol (The Target) with PD Yoon Sang-ho (Jinxed at First) at the helm, KBS’s Curtain Call premieres this coming Monday on October 31, following The Law Cafe in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Looking forward to this one although I am a bit concerned that half the subjects in the picture didn’t get the memo that it’s not a passport shot so they are allowed to smile. Mindful that this could be foreshadowing for a mix of sunshine and sadness throughout the drama.

Is this billed as noona romance? the real-life lead actors' age gap is 11 years, bigger than Kang Ha Neul's previous noona romance with Gong Hyo Jin (their age gap IRL is 9 years) ... if yes I am skipping this ... and now with main poster being revealed, I have a feeling that this can make a 180 degree turn into makjang at any point of time.

If it's not a noona romance I'm thinking to watch it. Ha Ji-Won is truly an AGELESS beauty looking at the posters and promotional images she can pass for a late 20s girl.

Funny that when the news coming about this drama, I thought it was going to be a period-piece drama in 70s or 80s.

When the show was first announced, my memory flashed to the 1967 movie HOTEL, which was about a historical once luxurious New Orleans hotel owned by an old man that is struggling financially to survive. The owner has no family to take over or rebuild it but is conflicted about what to do.

Somewhat like in DODO where Lee Jae-wook and Go Ara played the ‘grandfather’ character and his wife in flashback? Truthfully those were some of the best scenes in that drama.

Maybe somewhat like DODO but more integrated as Geum Soon story is the heart of the drama.

I am looking forward to SBS’s CURTAIN CALL. I thought Kang Ha-neul gave an award winning performance this year in INSIDER (Viki US) so I am definitely following him to CC.

If you cast Ha Ji-won and Kang Ha-neul in the same show and you managed to ruin it, that would require some rare talent. Hope the show is good!
