[Drama chat] Who are your favorite ajusshi actors?

Age is definitely just a number. But sometimes, ajusshi actors are special. And lately, we’ve seen so many great projects with seasoned male actors that this post is actually begging to exist.

Ajusshi can be a relative term, but for the sake of this argument (and the general Beanie crowd) we’ll call our ajusshi actors any lovely individuals who are not in their 20s or 30s anymore. Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Park Hee-soon, Gong Yoo, Kim Nam-gil, Ji Sung… and about a hundred others sitting on the throne of ajusshi greatness.

Who are your favorite ajusshi actors? This is your place to gush, squee, and claim your favorite.

Let the chatting begin!

I loved his King2 role! But, I can't really tell if that is a paper role love or his portrayal of the character. . . I think of it as having the same energy as his Real character.

Let's start with when I was a newbie K-drama addict. Obviously, film veterans like Song Kang-ho, Choi Min-shik, Sol, and more are Amazing, but I have my bias. 😂 SOme of them are pretty old, but they were younger 20 years ago.

Ha Jung-woo (44)
Han Suk-kyu (55)
Choi Min-soo (60)
Park Hae-il (45)
Ahn Nae-sang (57)
Kim Kap-soo (65)
Hwang Jung-min (52)
Um Ki-joon (46)
Ryu Seung-ryong (51)
Kim Myung-min (50)
Kim Yeong-cheol (69)
Jang Hyuk (45)
Shin Ha-kyun (48)
Jung Jin-young (57)
Chun Ho-jin (62)
Lee Sung-min (53)

On some variety show a few years ago, someone who knew Ahn Nae-sang when he was at university said that there were girls who were literally sick with love for him. And I am using "literally" literally.

My ahjussi? Of course is Lee Sun Gyun. 🤣

Okay, my top 10:
1. Kim Won Hae
2. Bek Hyun Jin
3. Oh Jung Se
4. Sung Dong Il
5. Choi Won Young
6. Lee Sun Gyun
7. Kim Byung Chul
8. Cho Seung Woo
9. Yoo Joon Sang
10. Song Seung Heon

My other top 10:

1. Yoo Ji Tae
2. Lee Jung Jae
3. Kim Sung Kyun
4. Jung Jae Young
5. Yoo Jae Myung
6. Jung Suk Yong
7. Kim Myung Min
8. Park Sung Keun
9. Choi Byung Mo
10. Bae Sung Woo

I think all these ahjussis are great actors, with awesome charisma (and they're cute as hell too). Everytime they're on screen I feel good, safe, since I know I'm going to see great acting and complex characters.

PS. Didn't mention Gong Yoo because it's too obvious. I mean, who doesn't love that ahjussi?

Maybe it's my age, but I find all these "ajusshi actors" way more magnetic and attractive than the young It Boys.

I can't accept Gong Yoo as an ajusshi.

My vote for favorite ajusshi would be Park Heesoon. The guy was SO HOT in My Name I couldn't focus on the show.

Totally agree! Do you think they had more attraction/magnetism when they were younger than the younger stars now? Does time just make them better actors and/or weed out the ones without staying power?

I think it's maturity. As I've gotten older, I've also found older people more attractive. Young people lack the gravitas and charisma that can only come from life experience.

This is an interesting point as I think the competition is pretty strong. There are those who are typecast so like the women and the actor character in three brave siblings they will cease to be offered lead material. The increase in platforms making and showing dramas and the growing number of web dramas and youth orientated dramas makes me wonder if there will be that many roles for the high numbers currently doing singing and acting or just acting.

Wow, i thought i lost this db account of mine. Went through all hoops of registering then writing wrong email; and re-registering and saw that i will lose 'status'. yay. Good thing could get back to it with google biometric. I have to chime in on this very interesting and fun thread. Hay, when 'oppas' turn 'ah juicy', that is a milestone. Not only for them but for me, too. I am fully embracing my whites. No more color. My definition is rather narrower - those that made my knees weak when they played lead or second lead roles. Off the top of my head, those who fit the 'ah juicy' tag would include So Ji Sub, Gong Yoo, Lee Sun Kyun, Jo In Sung, Kim Rae Won, Jang Hyuk, in no particular order. Those that i knew of fairly recently would be Son Suk ku and Yoo Teo. I'm sure i've forgotten a number of them.

Kim Byung chul from Pegasus Market for all the wrong reasons. :)

Ahn Suk hwan in Falling for Innocence because he could have gone a completely different way and it would have been justified but he just continued to love and show it to all of his son's friends, whether the deserved it or not. He really is one of my favorite written parental characters.
