[Drama chat] Who are your favorite ajusshi actors?

Age is definitely just a number. But sometimes, ajusshi actors are special. And lately, we’ve seen so many great projects with seasoned male actors that this post is actually begging to exist.

Ajusshi can be a relative term, but for the sake of this argument (and the general Beanie crowd) we’ll call our ajusshi actors any lovely individuals who are not in their 20s or 30s anymore. Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Park Hee-soon, Gong Yoo, Kim Nam-gil, Ji Sung… and about a hundred others sitting on the throne of ajusshi greatness.

Who are your favorite ajusshi actors? This is your place to gush, squee, and claim your favorite.

Let the chatting begin!

I took this in terms of the older men I like to see on screen because they tend to play the kind grandad or father figures of the leads. Even though I am an Ajumma I don't have any older men on my list of men who light up my day😊

Cheon Hojin mainly seen him playing kind hearted dad’s or supportive mentor type role to colleagues or as a teacher. In My Liberation Notes which I only watched one or two episodes of he was a cold character.

Joo Hyun was too indulgent as a Chaebol dad in Flower boy ramen shop and was a playboy grandad in Dear my friends.

Lee Deok Hwa grandad in Hit the top and Business proposal.

Sung Dongll from The Package, Prison playbook, Reply 1988 and If you wish upon me.

Yoo Jitae from Healer, When my love blooms is the youngest and I have enjoyed in the couple of dramas I have seen him in.

I think he was very popular in Korea, but I didn't get into his acting till he was much older.
I have fond memories of ramen parties while live-watching GIANT. 😃 Some of the subs weren't completed, but we had fun.
I forgot to add Jeong Bo-seok and Lee Moon-sik to my list.

Like I said, I accept I am on my own in that I don’t find any of the 40+ year old men attractive in that way, so I have gone on the acting presence of older men 40-80 in dramas. It is no different to me than the mother/grandmother figures that I smile at when they show up in a drama.

I have absolutely loved this post though, as everyone else is in their element and have clearly been waiting for this opportunity to share.🤣

I've never thought of him that way. I have too much respect for that generation of actors. They are my parent's and grandparent's generation.

Sung Dong-il plays the dad in all the Reply's (Sung Shi-won, Sung Na-jung, Sung Duk-seon).

Yoo Ji-tae was hot in Oldboy despite the, y'know, killing people and incest with his own sister.

I have only seen Reply 1988 in full so that’s good to know. I know they circulate some of the key cast in all their dramas so I keep meaning to try to watch the others in the series. I started the others when I was new to K dramas and certain tropes I didn’t understand grated on me so I stopped after a couple of episodes.

Pretty much all my favorite actors are now Ah-‘Juicy’

Gong Yoo - 🥰 Need no words.
Cho Seung Woo - This man is just perfection. 😍
Son Seok-Koo - well, almost. He is 39! 😍
Ji Sung - phew. 🌶️ He is aging like a fine wine and just getting sexier as we speak!

ps Roy Chiu- because I can’t leave him out of my list. 💙💙💙

‘Pretty much all my favorite actors are now Ah-‘Juicy’👈 This has to be my favourite line in this whole post and is why despite being on my own for not getting it, has helped me understand the popularity of this post. It also made me laugh out loud at the rationale being applied elsewhere in the comments as to what leads to the title change from Oppa to Ajusshi.

This has been a gem of a post thanks @db-staff for putting this one on the circulation list it was clearly needed 🤣

It will be interesting to see who is on the Ajumma list and who is most popular. A lot of the women are criticised for their acting or are typecast as the screaming/scheming potential Chaebol mother in law so I wonder whether there will be as varied a list and if it will be current or older dramas that are mentioned as their best work.

2

Funny you say it since I'm waiting for the ahjumma list just to scream "KIM TAE HEE" 🤣

Gong Yoo is certainly the number one on the list! He's not really handsome but so charming and charismatic.

Otherwise :
Choi Min-Soo : He's so charismatic
Song Seung-Heon, Ko Soo : They're hot.

2

I vaguely remember him saying that people commented about his looks (in a negative way) when he started acting. I was shocked! I guess he is not textbook beautiful by Korean standards?
When I started watching coffee prince he was ok in the first few episodes, I didn’t think much of him.
I think the switch flipped somewhere around Ep 7/8 ( it was a scene where he was sitting on a balcony and pondering) and then suddenly he was this incredibly attractive man with a magnetic screen presence.

I think he's not the typical "Flower boy" like a Hyun Bin (young not now anymore). So he's handsome but differently. I think for me it's more a mix of his charm and charisma.
