[Drama chat] Pitch your drama concept
by missvictrix
So, not to jinx this drama from ever coming to fruition, but I’ve had this in my head for years and I’m just sitting around waiting for someone to make it.
It follows a male K-pop group through the rigors of their professional life, but it’s a little more heavy and thoughtful than what we’ve seen in Imitation or the like. We get all the fun of the K-pop world, but we also see what it’s like behind the scenes, from the poking and prodding to the pressure and lack of privacy.
Behind the scenes also lies our heroine, a cordinoona and/or stylist who’s been working with the group for a while, sees under the veneer, has witnessed all their struggles and has had her own, too. Now, one of the boys in the group has his eyes on her, but of course everything he does is monitored — and he gets roped into a publicity stunt relationship — so their romance is a very slow burn of emotional bonding and silent longing. (Because catnip.)
The plot is mostly the mayhem of photo shoots, touring, practicing, getting injured, and facing scandals, but at its root it’s about the emotional effects of being treated like an object, and not a person. It’s about living a life where a million and a half fans think they own you, your career, your body, your decisions, your lyrics — but there’s really only one person you want to share those things with.
What’s the drama you have in your heart that you’re waiting for someone to make so you can just watch it already? Pitch your drama concept below.
Let the chatting begin!
Fine print: This is just for fun. No one is mining this post for tvN’s next blockbuster hit. Well, that we know of.

Want a drama with a flawed vulnerable hero again who make mistake and relatable come out again. . Almost all hero in kdramaland these days is potrayed as this perfect and even though they have flaws, is always stil a woman dreams, meanwhile there is alot more Chang Hee in My liberation notes than prince charming in real world.

I loved Dream High, and as soon as I heard the news that screenwriter Park Hye Ryun wasn't writing the second season, I knew season 2 would fail before it even aired. The series died with season 2 only to usher in the years long return of School which delivered with School 2013. None of the subsequent seasons of School have lived up to 2013 with the last season of the School series, School 2021, receiving very low ratings. I've wanted Dream High to get another chance for the longest time, and now is the perfect time to reboot the series. It honestly should've happened last year since it was the 10th anniversary of the series. With all the casting drama over what was supposed to be School 2020, as well as the pandemic, KBS should've scrapped School and used the 10th anniversary of Dream High to usher in the return of the series last year.
If Dream High does return, this time around I would love for it to be the love child of the first season of Dream High and School 2013. Just a more realistic look at students attending a performing arts High School. The show definitely needs a solid ensemble cast with the core group of characters made up of at least one dancer, actor, singer, musician, and an inspiring teacher. It would be great if there was a character who is a student and working child actor or a student that's an active idol. It would be nice to get a glimpse of what it's like for a celebrity to attend school and the possible issues that arise balancing their work schedule with school attendance. Just hoping for a solid writer that can create a fresh High School drama that doesn't rehash the tired tropes that have been done to death in other High School dramas. I definitely want one of the core characters to be a happy student who has a couple of free spirited fun loving parents who are both in the performing arts as well. That kid and their house could be the haven for that core group of students giving the friend group a Reply 1988 like energy. Simultaneously airing on Netflix to get global buzz would be great. OSTs that are from performances on the show would also be a plus, but I really don't want the show to be a musical. Cameos from the first season are a must. Lighthearted cameos are great, but I would love to see some with some scenes with weight. Kim Soo Hyun's Sam Dong and IU's Kim Pil Sook would do well having a heart to heart with students who might be dealing with issues similar to what they dealt with when they were students. Pil Sook's can definitely revisit her issues with a more serious tone. Kim Soo Hyun wrapping up his cameo with a surprise scene of him coupled up with Suzy's Hye Mi again would be really cute.

My drama features crime thriller and melo romance.
I always dream of this scenario.
-Strong female lead who is a detective and is very good at fighting.
- Her father is kinda like mafia and have committed heinous crimes and the girl will fight for justice and make her father pay for his deeds.
-The girl is tied in a contract kinda marriage to one of her friends and is an influential person, but he is wrongfully accused and in jail for some years. She have vowed to protect him, but she doesnt love him. Her husband loves the main girl's twin, but he doesnt have any romantic feelings for the main girl.
-As for the main lead, he is rich person, single dad, and during one of the cases, the child get kidnapped and she saves the kid.
-The main guy loves the feistiness of the main girl and instantly falls for her. But he finds out she is married, so he distance himself. But he uses his power to help fight against crime. She acknowledges his effort and then after saving her husband from jail she divorces him and starts a new life with the main lead.

There is another scenario in my head completely opposite of the previous one.
This would be similar as princess hours, but tiny changes made.
-The girl is a high school student around 19 years
- The main lead is around 26 years, rich and is the director of the family company.
- The parents of the leads have already agreed to marry both of them when they were young, but the boy's family moved to Seoul and they lost contact.
- They got married secretly without the school knowing ,due to dying grandmother's wish of the male lead.
- The male lead has gf and he absolutely hates the main girl. They have made up a contact to get a divorce within 8 months.
- The gf cheats on with the the guy's best friend. So the male lead gets angry and get so much drunk that he sleeps with his wife.
- The girl gets pregnant, and she leaves home and the boy doesnt know on her being pregnant.
-Years later they meet and misunderstandings happen but get cleared and they are reunited.

Mine is almost a soap spanning many many episodes.
A boy grows up with a girl who came to their town with her father. The father is reclusive, boy's mum takes care of them and helps them to settle. They grow up and start to love each other but being too familiar is a bit uncomfortable.
The girl's father suddenly decides to go away. They pack up and leave without saying goodbye. The girl writes a letter saying if he loves her as much as she loves him should come somewhere (date, time, place) and asks her friend to deliver. However, the letter never gets to the recipient. The boy feels betrayed and bitter.
Later on the friend gets close the boy and gets pregnant. They decide to get married, when their child is 5 he finds the letter. Cannot do anything but becomes cold to his wife, eventually they decide to part.
The boy starts looking for the girl.
The girl went to abroad and studied medicine. As a student she participated an experiment and finds out she has BRCA1/2 mutation. She never knew her mother so tries to find out more.
She finishes her school and became an oncology pathologist. Meets a guy whom she dearly loves but does not want to marry. In order to make her loved one have a happy life she leaves without a notice back to a different town.
A few years later the guy is married gets a job in the same hospital she works and moves to into the next door. Tension between the girl and guy's wife.
Eventually, she breaks her silence explains why she ran away. She was diagnosed with breast cancer had double mastectomy. His mother begged her to leave so he can move on and have a family. So she left. Of course she would not tell the mum part.
Then she gets bad news that her cancer came back and is everywhere. She sells her house and leaves for Korea. Runs into the boy. They talk she said she assumed he was not in love with her because he did not show up where she would meet him. He says he never got the letter.
They start spending time together tracing their childhood etc. He says he loves her even after all these years. She tells him she loves someone else but willing to forget him because she cannot be with him.
She does not tell him that she is dying. Eventually, she realizes that she is falling in love with the boy again.
They try to make love. Passionate kiss and take their clothes off then she tells him to stop.
After a few failed attempts she explains she finally tells him she is embarrassed because she does not have breasts. He cries rivers and says he is not in love with breasts but with her. They make love.
She starts being sick and knows the end is near. He stops working and takes care of her. The friend comes and asks for forgiveness.
She dies in peace. At the funeral, the guy comes with his mother and learns about her being sick and how his mother pushed her away. He cries a river.
In between the father is not her birth father but her gay uncle. He had to leave abruptly to protect his lover. Her birth mother was...

Oh, I did not realize that. I wrote it on a notepad and copied/pasted it. It got cut off like that.
To finish off:
- Her birth mother was the father's adopted sister who died from breast cancer when the girl was very young. He adopted the girl and raised him alone. The father's best friend, who spent lots of time with them was actually his lover.

Oh I forgot one. First off, love your KDrama idea @missvictrix. I've been waiting to see a serious drama dealing with the idol world for years now. On that note, after Lee Joong Gi made my jaw drop with his PSY 'That That' dance cover this year (how did I not know all these years that he could dance), I want a drama with him playing a world star pop star ala Rain right now. Right after watching his dance cover, I thought this has to happen. Something with a serious budget that allows him to have major performances on stage in an arena and on music shows. It could be a serious thriller with him dealing with a stalker while showcasing his life as a star. Another idea is him playing a top pop star who already had his heyday but had his career come to a halt years ago due to a scandal in which he was innocent. Events occur that clear his name and thrust him back into the limelight after living years as an average citizen in obscurity in another country. Just want to have a look at him going through all the stages of his return to the industry, dealing with all the changes to the industry, guesting on variety, signing with a new agency, having dance practice, shooting a music video, preparing for his concert and ending with his return to the stage with an amazing concert performance. He could have a chance to rekindle a romance he lost due his career/scandal as well. Would love to see lots of cameos for this one. He can have agency juniors in the music industry with popular KPop groups, 1st gen pop stars can make cameos playing his peers/former rivals. Variety stars can make an appearance as well. Must have lots of flashbacks and/or videos of him performing at his peak.
Other than that, I've been waiting for years for a sexy/sensual, stylish, modern vampire drama. Jaejoong must play one of these vampires, and Lee Soo Hyuk must play one as well (don't care if he's played one twice already). Fill the cast with solid supporting actors to give the show some weight. Give me lots of flashbacks of the vampires in different eras. I've also wanted a dark fantasy drama that pretty much looks like a live action of the anime 'X' Dark winged beautiful men, I'm here for it. SHINee gave a tease of this with their Ring Ding Dong music video and I've been wanting this to happen in KDramaland ever since.

Here's my pitch:
Still grieving the death of his girlfriend, a young man forms an unlikely friendship with his dead girlfriend's mother. They bond over their shared grief and their love for kdramas/kpop.

Oh. Haha. Lol. I have so many though.
And I'll sound like a broken record if I say "Epic Silla Fantasy Sageuk" or my "Title Unknown" short story.
And I'm late to this so don't know if I feel like trying to summarise any others. Besides, I don't want just SOMEONE to make them; *I* want to make them... lmao.
Although, your drama @missvictrix, sounds very similar to a number of kpop based plot bunnies of my own, except I think mine are probably liable to be a lot darker ;) ;)
Unfortunately, k-ent as a whole isn't quite self aware enough about the darker sides of kpop yet to authentically make those dramas, imo.

Lmao! YOu know, you'd think so, but no, that's not the kind of darker I meant anyway hahaha. There should be though so I'm going to go make one now.
I do however, have a different c-tier story with a super model that is an assassin.

An actual serious Body Swap drama, that doesn't use the body swap as an afterthought but with real consequences. Something similar to the old jdrama himitsu.
For example, lets say, 30 year old man, an executive, high status then gets body swapped into a body of a woman 22 years old, living with an abusive boyfriend.
The body swap is permanent and the main character will not be able to swap back.
I want real consequences and real discussions about being in a new body and how their lives will be changed forever, and yet somehow they meet each other after triumph, both changed people, and no romance between them but a strong bond, because each used to be the other person.

FL is a mystery writer and recluse. She had a tragic childhood where her mentally ill mother poisoned herself and FL in a murder suicide attempt. Her mother died but she survived. Since then she doesn't get close to people and as an adult lives like a recluse. She publishes under a pseudonym. Her latest book is a huge best seller and a major studio wants to make into a movie. ML is a formerly successful actor down on his luck due to a scandal. He's definitely a bit of a playboy. But he wants to regain his career by getting the role of the handsome lead detective. (Something that annoys the FL since the studio insists on changing him from a middle aged man to a hot younger guy.) He and his manager team up to find the mysterious author to try to convince them to give him the part. When he finds FL he is shocked-they went to high school together where he was the popular boy and she was an outcast. 2nd ML would be a handsome policeman who FL helps with his cases she has a huge crush on him but he doesn't notice.

A Korean-Swedish expat comes back to Korea because of her sister's concussion and ends up teaching and also starring in a children's show and hanging out with other expats=== a sort of offbeat LGBT crowd--as well as ending up teaching english to two mildly depraved Roman Catholic priests as well as starting up a tarot reading group with a Canadian Buddhist monk and a couple of ambassador wives. Sort of slice of life. Plot wise, she ends up meeting a lot of students from different stages in their lives and hears about their lives and wonders where she's going to end up as well.

Quite some time ago, @reply1988 (I think) used ”unexpected bank holiday" as a euphemism for the queen's funeral 😂😂😂 and then I started imagining a dark rom-com along the lines of “Same Time Next Year” but with a couple that only gets together on Unexpected Bank Holidays, but one’s a monarchist and the other is a republican, so they’re torn between hoping for and feeling sad about UBHs and they get caught up in a conspiracy to make such UBHs happen so they can meet more often and eventually they start running out of royals. For kdrama, maybe it could be recast with NK/SK conflict negotiators who can only see each other when there’s a crisis.
Also, I'm sure this post totally did not start getting comments again months later so that header photo could keep popping up on our screens.

It probably was me! This year with Easter so late and the bonus bank holiday in May we have 4 long weekends in a 2 month period. Yippee! I think with weddings and coronations thrown in the mix it’s not always bad news when ‘unexpected bank holidays’ appear so they could have a run where several occur in a 12 month period. It reminds me of the film One day where they kept meeting on Saint Swithin’s day. I like the idea of conflict negotiators meeting when there is a crisis.

I was thinking about a drama about an arranged marriage between two characters in their 20's, the only reason they married was because of a mother who was worried for her daughter who is very distant and cold refuses to start going on dates, so when another woman from a very rich family who loves strawberries contact's the mother asks if her strawberries are for sale, the mother has a genius plan and asks the woman if she has a son, to her suprise she does!
The mother then suggests that the woman's son and her daughter get married in return the woman would get a life time supply of never ending strawberries!
But the mother didn't know that the son of the woman is actually extremely timid and shy and the women was actually worried for her son who was timid and shy and refused to also start going on dates, so when the two 20 yr Olds are wed (which it very sudden for them) they stayed with the daughters mother and began to navigate through their marriage as a young couple
This would be a pretty comical but romantic kdrama where you watch two almost opposites try and navigate through a strange and endearing marriage!
Eventually of course they will get to know each other and fall for eachother while the daughter shows the son how to do things around the farm like feeding the animals or tending to fruits and vegetables and eventually the son will return to his family in the city to visit, he would show the daughter around while doing things she's always wanted to do as a kid
As for names I was thinking something like these
- My sweet love
- For the love of strawberries
- My sweet troublesome marriage
- Our arranged love
- A trade for love
(Apologies if any of the names are similar to any other kdramas)
