This show was really good in the beginning, but someone on the writing/directing team decided they do not want it to be another "healing through found family" drama, so they added a gangster backstory to spice things up and continued to butcher the last quarter of the show with it, in the name of "closure". Maybe Kdramaland was annoyed with us for complaining about open endings, so the director/writer decided "Not this time" and we got what we got 🙄 Just skip ep 14 and15, read the recaps and end it on a sweet note with ep 16. Recommended : 6.5/10

I really enjoyed this for the relationships part. It actually had me with tears in my eyes 3 times. I think I could really relate to some of the stories. The mob stuff was hurried and detracted from the overall story. I was watching for Ji Chang-wook,Sung Dong-il and SooYoung. They were as always stellar in their performances. The cute little dog Son didn't hurt either!

This was a wonderful drama. I've seen a lot of attempts in dramas to elicit tears from the audience, but this one had at least one desperately sad or sad yet hopeful scene per episode, and usually more. It's true that the gangster plot was the occasion of irritatingly Dickensian coincidences, but I think it served a critical purpose. The three orphanage veterans, including the main lead, needed some way to struggle against their sense that they were unworthy to live. Without this gangster plot, the many scenes where characters tried to find a way to subvert their fates as lonely, bereaved or abandoned people could not have happened. Found family and found community were presented as an alternative to the sick and empty lives of people who cannot form such bonds. Ji Chan Wook is amazing at conveying longing and despair. He's not merely good looking and good at crying. To me this show was marked by performances of people who made me cry without crying themselves. I frequently find the 16th episode of a drama unwatchable because it's so boring to tie up loose ends, but this one wasn't just comforting--I still cared what happened to all the people in the story. Every episode had something in it to show the superior acting of the entire ensemble as they created characters with relatable motivations, and coped with loss, grief and growth.

iI so agree with your description of this show. Yes the mob was necessary just rushed too much to have deep meaning. and yes, Ji Chang Wook is an amazing actor all around. I wish we could see him more often and in really good shows.

This drama pegged itself nearly perfectly as a healing drama. I found myself tearing up nearly every episode for the first 3 or 4 weeks. The stories were heartwarming; the characters, deep. I enjoyed both the episodic wish of the week and looked forward to the glimpses into each person's life. I also found myself drawn to several of the side characters. However, the storyline with Gyu-Rae's biological father bogged the story down for me and I lost interest towards the end. It was beautifully acted- wonderful performances by everyone, even the single episode characters.
As a note, I both loved and hated that they included a highly suicidal character in the show. I'm glad that they addressed some incredibly heavy topics, but I always hesitate because the topics are so heavy. Watch and judge for yourself the character and topic was treated with the gravitas it deserved.

I have no complaints....whatever the story is, I’ll just take it as light entertainment. I’ll watch anything with Ji Chang Wook in it. Even if he were just walking around and doing nothing, I’ll still gave him a 10 of 10 score 🤣
I find the actress Won Ji-an is extremely beautiful and even if Joon Kyung wasn’t suitable for Gyeo Rye, I still find them looking good together as a couple. Both have matching looks, mesmerisingly handsome and beautiful, almost same height, lean and tall, long face and straight nose. Matching in every way 😂👍 She just lit up the screen whenever she appears and I find her presence more imposing and interesting than Soo-Young.
All in all, it’s a good healing drama, all ends well. ❤️

The drama didn't give me the perfection from the beginning to end I wanted, but in some ways, it gave me more than I wanted. And the ending was appropriate. Maybe not a must-watch but no major complaints. Overall, I would definitely recommend at least trying this drama when you're looking for a change in pace from all the usual in the dramaland. The heaviness is actually kinda healing. The performances were good too.
