Kang Haneul and Ha Ji-won are on the stage for KBS’s Curtain Call

The first stills are out for KBS’s Curtain Call, featuring our actor-hero Kang Haneul (Insider) along with the ever beautiful Ha Ji-won (Chocolate).

The drama has Kang Haneul playing the happy-go-lucky Yoo Jae-hun. Although he’s still just a no-name theater actor, he always does his utmost best with a sunny personality – all for the sake of his ailing grandmother. But in order to fulfill her last wishes, he has to tackle an unprecedented mission that puts his acting skills to use on a whole different level.

Ha Ji-won plays the role of Park Se-yeon, the general manager at Hotel Paradise. Although she’s actually the youngest daughter of the owners, she started out by working part-time at the hotel back when she was still in college. Over the years, she’s been steadily building skills and experience – earning both trust and respect from the staff.

In supporting roles, Grandma Go Du-shim (Our Blues) is the founder of Hotel Paradise, who holds onto an old but treasured dream. During the Korean War, she was separated from her husband and child while they were fleeing to the south, and she built her hotel with the hopes of seeing them again one day.

The large cast also includes chaebol Kwon Sang-woo (Critical X), Grandma’s right hand man Sung Dong-il (If You Wish Upon Me), and the family’s housekeeper Bae Hae-sun (All of us Are Dead). We also have Jae-hun’s actor colleague Jung Ji-so (Hellbound) as well as the mysterious Noh Sang-hyun (a.k.a. Steve Noh) (Pachinko).

Rounding out the hotel family, Ji Seung-hyun (Why Her) is the heir and largest shareholder as Se-yeon’s oldest brother – with Hwang Woo-seul-hye (Cafe Minamdang) playing his wife. She’ll be sister-in-law (this time) to the frivolous Choi Dae-hoon (The Good Detective 2), who plays the wild child second brother.

With PD Yoon Sang-ho (Jinxed at First, River Where the Moon Rises) at the helm and writing by screenwriter Jo Sung-keol (The Target), KBS’s Curtain Call premieres next month, following The Law Cafe in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Oh! It's coming soon. Everything about this emotes good feelings.
Remain non-tense throughout this one, Kang Hanuel.
I hope Ji Seunghyun has something better than Why Her? here.

It looks like a good old Kdrama 😊

I want to watch KHN as a lead in drama but I never could watch his drama till the end... So I have a lot of hopes for this one!

I'm happy to see HJW back in Kdrama world!

I have to admit that the leads makes me want to give this one the first ep chance. But tbh, I'm not holding high hope for the PD and the writer. I wasn't impressed by River where the Moon Rises and I haven't seen any work of the writer before.

I feel exactly the same way about River, but I love the idea of these two actors together. I'm hopeful they picked this drama because it tells a good story.

That is also my hope. Somehow, I'd like to trust them. I don't think KHN picks bad dramas.

The story sounds weirdly 2000s. I don't feel intrigued at all. But who knows. Let's see ho it goes.

Sounds like stress free watching, hoping these aren’t famous last words!

That is a long cast list with very little plot info, but Kang Ha Neul with a sunny personality and Ha Ji won? Say no more Show.

IIRC the plot was around Kang Ha-neul pretending to be the rich grandmother's North Korean defector grandson. There'd been news reports of Yoon Yuh-jung playing the grandmother, the role now played by Go Doo-shim.

For the several three years there has been a push to pair Kang Ha-neul and Son Ye Jin in a project. SYJ was offered the lead role here but she declined. YYJ was also offered the role but she declined so I am not sure what the script focus will be: on the grandmother or granddaughter characters or both.

I wonder if SYJ declined because of wanting to start a family with Hyun Bin and YYJ because of filming for the 2nd season of Pachinko. Anyways, I'd like to see KHN and GDS again, a mini reunion from When the Camellia Blooms.

Great leads. HJW, to me, excels in saeguks or melodrama. I love how elegant and composed she looks here. Her beauty is timeless! KHN seems healthy and strong here. From the looks of it, this show seems to be taking a severe approach, given the history of SK+
NK. I hope the PD and writer do well on this topic.

The PD has been around for a long time yet seems to have no
distinct identity to his works. His involvement here makes me pause on whether he can bring this story alive in a satisfactory manner. The writer is a newbie, and KBS (I think they've public contests for new writers to showcase or win for scripts). I assume the writing must have been solid to gain an All-star cast. Of course, there are loads of other things that can make or break a show, but writing can't be the only thing.

Ha Ji-won won't accept a project if it's not a good material. She still has the film, Portrait of the Family, in the pipeline plus her arts and businesses on the side. I'm sure this one deserves a limelight like she usually did in her previous dramas.
