Drama viewership ratings for the week of Sep. 19-25, 2022

A bunch of new shows premiered this week, with the Namgoong Min vehicle One Dollar Lawyer making the most impressive splash. But The Golden Spoon didn’t do so badly either, and saw a big jump in its second episode. I expected a bit more from Love in Contract’s premiere, but then again it didn’t do too poorly either for the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Wow, that 2% jump for The Golden Spoon. I thought after Big Mouth, MBC would go back to losing to SBS again, but The Golden Spoon is holding its own. It was my favorite out of this week's premieres.

I also hoping for One Dollar Lawyer to breaking into the 10%.

If you wish upon me seems to be reflecting the drop in interest in the violence storyline. Love in contract lost people after the first episode which is a shame as the second episode was better. Three brave siblings ended Saturday on a cliff hanger so I can see why Sunday’s episode had a bigger audience. I quite like it, although the shouty mum/mother in law/any role we need an annoying female trope is one we should be able to leave behind in 2022 surely.

The MIL is simply an ugly character.

The first four episodes of any weekender tend to be set up for the story. THREE BOLD SIBLINGS (Viki title) did some of that but also seems to have jumped in and started the ball rolling as well, in part by focusing more on the FL's backstory. We have only glimpses of the ML's story beyond the fact that he has had to deal with his family's financial situation back when he was younger, and that family continues to leach off of him. This does not excuse his previously reckless behavior towards the FL, and he seems to be oblivious to the effect it had on her and her family. So far, we know little about the other two siblings or much of the rest of the MLs family.

That being said this new weekender seems to understand that weekenders are about families and relationships. While the ratings are not exciting for a weekender that may change.

I'm rooting for The Golden Spoon to pull ahead on Fri-Sat. I liked it a lot, and I tend to root for MBC as the underdog.

Three Brave Siblings started low for a weekender, but I think it has the potential to do better than It's Beautiful Now.

The more crazy shenanigans occur/more makjang = high ratings for Weekenders.

Example: Young Lady and Gentleman. That went off the rails in the latter end. Ji Hyun Woo getting a Daesang for a show that was 2 1/2 months into airing was too soon, and given KBS's slate last year, I can see why they had to give him one given their slate the previous year. (Other than Dali and Gamjatang, their shows just flew under the radar last yr for me).

Their sageuks did pretty well with Royal Secret Agent and The King's Affection.

Oh, I forget TKA! I enjoyed that show too. RSA was a surprise hit for them but went empty-handed awards-wise.

I'm a bit surprised at Law Cafe's ratings. I know KBS isn't doing well for a while (minus Weekenders who consistently do well no matter what). Law Cafe has the highest ratings for them, minus Weekenders this year for KBS. But I thought it would've retained its 7% ratings and not settled for now into the 5-6% range. I suspect it'll slightly increase to 8% by the end, but I find that if SBS took this drama, it could've been higher. SBS, for the most part (minus Today's Webtoon), has consistently gotten double digits for most of its dramas. I also wonder if having Netflix helps add to a show because I see it does help tremendously with word of mouth/buzz.

Good Job's last week is this week. Is it too much to hope the finale breaks their personal record? With their finale overlapping the same night as APAN STAR awards, it's gonna be really difficult.
