Drama viewership ratings for the week of Sep. 12-18, 2022
by DB Staff
It was a week of finales for the most part, some that saw the usual finale bump (Adamas, The Good Detective 2), some that slowly died out (Today’s Webtoon), and others that went out with flames of glory (Big Mouth), though no one’s sure why.
As for our premieres this week, Mental Coach Jegal gained in its second episode, while Blind did the opposite. Both are pretty low numbers for tvN, considering what they’re currently bringing in with Little Women, but there’s still time.

I had the healthiest kdrama relationship with Big Mouth. I was engrossed in it during the whole hour but not so much that live watching would turn out a torture
*cough AOS cough*
I have realised I really like watching Lee Jeong seok in dramas that have a suspense thriller element in them
I feel so ironically comfortable watching it
I really don't know why
And find his dramas with predictable plot really bland
Am I the only one?

Wow! It's Beautiful Now racked in 29+%🥳. What exactly is the secret ingredient for weekenders in Korea?

That an older audience watches them and they air during dinnertime.

Yup I suspect families all over South Korea just put the show on at dinnertime, so the ratings would kind of reflect that even if half the family might not actually be watching it.
Actually It's Beautiful Now isn't even doing that well for a weekender. Its predecessor Young Lady and Gentleman's ratings were >30% for most of its run, while My Golden Life and My Only One shot above 40% on several occasions.

I didn't expect The Good Detective 2's ratings to beat The Good Detective 1's because it hovered around 4-5%, so congratulations! I liked the story and characters better in Season 1, but I'm happy for the cast and crew.

Decent numbers for LAW CAFE. The two leads are the draw here and they are doing a great job.
Last weekend was the finale of the weekender IT'S BEAUTIFUL NOW. It was a decent show from beginning to end, much less makjangish than its predecessor, but not among my all-time favorite weekenders. I have said before that K-drama writers need a good editor and this show was a case in point: The pacing was fequently off and unnecessary digressions wasted time, like the story arc with Mi-rae’s greedy aunt who added zero to the basic story. That timewaster should have been eliminated at the story board stage. Judicious pruning would have resulted in better pacing, and we could have seen a better story arc for the re-union of Soojae and Yoona, which was truncated and left incomplete by the end of the show. The final ratings were OK, but this drama had the potential to be so much more than it was.
TODAYS WEBTOON suffered from being sixteen episodes long. The Jdrama original had only 10- and was really good (SLEEPEEER HIT on Viki). I am not saying it could not have been a sixteen episode show but it is difficult to stretch a show out effectively.

I am in the minority it seems but I really liked Big Mouse and Todays Webtoon. Maybe from the relationships POV.

Mental Coach Jegal has the lowest rating here. What happened? Is it that bad? I still haven't started it yet but it in my watchlist because of Jung woo.
Little Women is getting fun. no surprised for that 7-8% and I think it will be increased.
