Hmmm, I don't even know how to start especially without giving spoilers.
I guess I'll start by saying that this is definitely "your miles may vary" type of drama.
There are folks who like or love the chemistry between the leads and I will admit some of their moments are awesome. It's cool seeing them being a team and/or protective each other. It's cool seeing how supportive they are or can be of each other.
I liked the title cards. I liked seeing how it related to the episode.
I don't know how to define a "noir" but I guess the closest is think Batman and that's what this is; it's just a unfair world where there are no white knights. And because it can't just be all doom and gloom, you do have the sweet moments such as Chang Ho with his family or... I guess this is subjective but there's entertainment in Jihoon. He is honestly the only antagonist you can count on haha
I think it's fair to say the story doesn't go how one necessarily would expect.
I think it's clear that the writer(s) just had an idea and rolled with whatever came to mind within that concept.
The ending is complete so no worries on that front but again, it's a "your miles may vary" situation. The fact that it's a complete story might satisfy some while the way it's completed is unsatisfying to others.

I haven’t watched this yet, but you did a great job giving some insight into what to expect without a single spoiler. I’m impressed!

Great review!
I do agree with your "your miles may vary" subject of the review as its always interesting (to me) to read about different POVs by other drama watchers as it always changes my perspective of things.

I rather watch Doctor Stranger than this, as LJS fan.

And if you have had bizzare and scary dreams before, don't watch this drama. You'll get another one.

Just not worth the time because the director/writer knew the start (A) and the end (B) , but did not know how to navigate from A -> B so the journey became a mess like someone choosing to follow GPS, instead of ask the locals for help.
There are better Lee Jong Suk, better Yoona and better Kwak Dong Yeon dramas than this.

I agree because I bailed out after episode 3 it was convoluted then and not interesting enough for me to go to the end. I felt that way about Adamas as well. Went to go watch cdrama Love Like the Galaxy …no regrets.

It was good up until episode 14. There's simply too many plots but not enough time given to each. Lee Jong Suk hard-carried this drama for sure. Yoona was also very good in her role as well.

As the drama started out there was so much violence that I really didn't think I could make it through 16 episodes like this. It remained like that off and on throughout the drama, but there began to be periods of more peaceful interaction with much less violence. Still it remained tense even after the ML took on a new role. There were some very clever tactics taken by the ML to manipulate what we believed were the "bad guys." The relationship between the ML and the FL was believable and changed into a deeper more meaningful relationship over the course of the episodes. Though I started out unsure if I wanted to finish, by midway, I was looking forward to the drama each week.

An entertaining but ultimately hollow ride with little care for the characters. Characters flip sides on the writers' whims and new details sprout up when convenient, never to be followed. Watch if you want to shut off your brain for a bit and enjoy great actor chemistry and very light neo-noir vibes. Skip if you care about characterization and plots adding up correctly.

This is a noir show that thematically goes down the road of how things are, rather than how we'd like them to be. In the end it embodies the frustration of people who are silenced, ignored and given no recourse by the existing systems and the people who control them, which leaves you understanding how the characters get to where they are and make the choices they make, for good or ill. But it's also not all dark all the time, there are a lot of sweet, genuine moments along the way. LJS and Yoonah do a great job of bringing life, love and humanity to the serious and gritty subject matter. This will not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is very well acted.
