[Drama chat] So they’re really replacing Jung So-min in Alchemy of Souls?

You guessed it! This is your place to vent your hot drama tears about the recent confirmation that Jung So-min will not be returning for Alchemy of Souls part 2, and that her character will instead by played by Go Yoon-jung.

Now, with some other dramas behind them, the Hong sisters do have some ‘splaining to do, but also, this *kinda* makes sense? I mean, it’s a giant risk to replace your leading actress mid-drama — especially on purpose — and I’m of the opinion that the risk will either pay off with something amazing that can wins us over with its epicness… or it will fall flat, crash land, and make us wish that we too could harness some magical lake energy and wreak serious havoc.

How are we feeling about this Alchemy of Souls part 2 casting confirmation?

I’m almost finished with episode 2 of season 2. What a mess. Switching FL aside, all the momentum and chemistry from S1 is negated, gone due to the time jump. You leave S1 with so much anticipation and it - goes - nowhere. We’re starting anew, and with a different FL who doesn’t seem to have the same chemistry with the ML and other actors as JSM. There was a lot of telling and not showing that happened to catch us up 3 years, and the explanation for Naksu’s features on Mudeok’s body is just so… meh… it just FEELS like an explanation thrown in because JSM is no longer in the show. I’ll watch till the end in hopes of the story getting better, but wow, S2 has been such a disappointment.

Not a fan of the lead actress being replaced.
Jung So Min made Naksu and Mo deok come to vivid life on screen. She possesses a natural beauty that shines wo polish. 19 episodes endeared her. The sudden change is very hard to justify to this fan.

It’s now Nov,2023 and I watched both Season 1 & 2. And I just can’t understand why they had to change Jung So min, when at Season 2 Bu-yeong’s body should be the physical body. Instead, Naksu’s body is the one that came as the outward appearance? When her soul is supposedly the only one trapped in Buyeong’s body? Jung So min did an excellent portrayal in Season 2. If what they did is just like in Season 1 where Go Yoon Jung is coming out on the trances like when Buyeong is talking to Naksu inside her mind, then it would have been a clearer story. It would have been better if in the beginning in Season 1 -Go Yoon was Buyeong in Mudeok’s body since Buyeong was a pretty priestess and Jung So min was naksu and JSM has a strong killer look like Naksu. But JSM totally Nnailed the humor and character in the Season 1 that I missed it in Season 2. I felt this change made the story confusing therefore frustrating.
