Choo Young-woo ventures Once Upon a Small Town with Joy and Baek Sung-chul

The first teaser has been released for KakaoTV’s rom-com, Once Upon a Small Town (previously Unexpected Country Diary), featuring our three leads: Joy (The One and Only), Choo Young-woo (School 2021), and Baek Sung-chul (Inspector Koo).

Based on a popular web novel, the story follows Choo Young-woo’s character, Han Ji-yul, as he’s uprooted from his city home and shuttled off to take care of his grandfather’s veterinary clinic in the countryside. Although adjusting to life in the village is a little challenging for our urbanite, police officer Ahn Ja-young – played by Joy – is always happy to help. Naturally, though, this arouses the jealousy of Baek Sung-chul, who plays Ja-young’s bestie and local peach farmer, Lee Sang-hyun.

Set against the backdrop of scrumptious peach trees and the surrounding farm lands, the new video teaser introduces us to our main trio as we watch them work the fields and answer questions about themselves in an interview format.

Our resident police officer says she has no time or interest in dating, but it doesn’t stop her from bickering and bantering with Ji-yul along the way. Ji-yul doesn’t hesitate when it comes to love. But the shy Sang-hyun keeps his distance and can only grumble his distaste for our newcomer vet. The teaser then comes to a close with a final shot of our three smiling leads.

With PD Kwon Seok-jang (Bossam: Steal the Fate) at the helm and Baek Eun-kyung writing the scripts, Once Upon a Small Town premieres September 5 and will be available internationally on Netflix.

This looks cute. I liked Joy in "The One and Only" and Choo Young-woo was the best younger actor in "School 2021," imo. And of course, the whole setting with animals and peaches could be perfect for watching in early Fall.

Genuinely kinda surprised this’ll be on Netflix. Idk this doesn’t feel like their usual kdrama picks. Oh well, that just means easier access for me so I have no complaints. Except for the fact that the FL is a cop. Did this story really need her to be a cop? Was there not any other occupation she could’ve had? I hope they stick to farming.

I feel like it's less typical of them to commission and produce dramas like this, but they often partner with networks to be the exclusive streaming service for dramas in this genre.

I agree about the cop thing. I'm hoping that they just gave her that occupation so that she would have an excuse to know everyone in the town. With any luck, her main duties are helping kids get down from trees and making sure seniors know about internet safety. I still have PTSD from the Minamdang FL and don't want any of that please and thank you.

Maybe it's so they can work in a stalker or serial killer or both.

Unfortunately, I think you hit the nail on the head as to why she’s a cop.

I like the Choo Young-Woo. He was so better than the main actor in School 2021. I'm happy for him to get the main role this time.

This time Santa will have more dialogues :p
