[Drama Chat] That drama you hate-watched all the way through

I don’t normally fall into the hate-watch category, because more often than not, disliking a drama (ahem, Record of Youth) makes me want to shut it off and run for the hills — not torment myself all the way through, painful minute by excruciating second.

On the other hand, there are definitely those times when you dislike a drama so much you can’t stop watching. And it’s not because the drama is a glorious train wreck (which is another kind of drama watching entirely) — it’s because the drama is just a straight-up train wreck. It’s not fun, watching it is not fun, seeing good talent go to waste is not fun, and being annoyed for two hours every week is not fun. And yet, hate-watching was kinda fun?

What’s the drama you hate-watched all the way through?

Dali And the cocky prince : friend persuaded me to watch Dali and the cocky prince that it was raving. I put it on my watch list for like 2month then I finally started but my God! That Dali girl was insufferable I wanted to strangle her or shake some common sense into her. I continue because of the male lead (from do you like brahm).
Business proposal : I have never hated the first m&f lead in a drama as I did this but the second lead were cute together I wanted more screen time for them.

Not really hate-watched, but I kept pushing forward with Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, convincing myself I would soon find out why people love and praise this drama so much. And nope, I never found out. It's just not my thing.

Me neither. Practically double-fast-forwarded through the second half.

Vincenzo, DOTS. and arthdral chronicle. because who else who can make me sit through even a drama I hate? it's all Song Joong Ki's fault lol....

Romantic dr2. it's not like the drama is bad. but I always struggle to sit through a medical drama. especially a medical drama full of surgery scene... Goddd I have weak stomach.. and YobIn Sik directorial feels like the real situation is too real. But otoke? I watch it because of Ahn Hyo Seop acting is too addicting and Kim Sabu LOL..

The Equator Man.. I have no idea why I finish this one?

Probably HIGHLY unpopular opinion but Hometown Cha Cha Cha........
It would've been better if I watched it before You're My Spring but I happened to watch it right after and just couldn't help but compare and it's so bad in comparison in regards to the healing process etc. But the villagers were fun tho!

Another Miss Oh. I hated the female lead the most because of her low self-esteem.

After this drama, I learnt to drop ones I don't like. My dropped list is now as long as my fave list 😅

Oh I forgot to mention "Lovestruck in the city". I watched it because of JCW but I didn't like any character.

No haters, please. No contest, for me it’s Boys Over Flowers. Usually when I hate a drama, I drop it and don’t even continue reading the recaps. I’m just done. So, idk why I watched BOF to the end. Maybe I wanted to see if Ku Hye-sun’s acting would improve or I was in a hypnotic trance because of Lee Min-ho’s hair. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know I'm so so so late but seeing the comments, I'm glad i'm not the only one doing the hate-watched😂
Surprisingly, i don't have many dramas on this category. I guess I have learned to stop watching when I no longer enjoy it.
Here's mine:
Love Rain
Goodbye Mr. Black
The K2
Dinner Mate
Snowdrop

There are also dramas I finished but it's more like I don't like-watched(?) them.
Since "hate" is a strong word, it's easy for me to identify which ones I truly hate and which ones I simply don't like.
These dramas have few good moments but not enough to make it to my favorite or so so list:
Soundtrack #1
Lovestruck in the City
Catch the Ghost
Tomorrow with You
WWSK
Modern Farmer

Forget to put The Heirs to hate-watched list. I watched it years after the drama finished airing and heard a lot of not good things about it but I still watched it!

In order of MOST to least hate

SKY Castle - no redeeming qualities whatsoever IMO
Another Miss Oh - very annoying FL, unbearable secondary characters
Search WWW - very boring ML (but loved him in My Ajusshi), didn't like the FL
Itaewon Class - ridiculous.

Ugh just thinking about them...

Writer of Search WWW wrote another disastrous female lead in 2521. With the way it ended, it's just creepy now thinking about how the FL acted after she got married and what she did to pay homage to her first love with the name of her shop. Suffice to say, it isn't the kind of heroine behavior that should be emulated or applauded. Writer needs to work on fine tuning details of the characters and not just focus on the end theme of the story. I'm staying far away from this writer's future works. It wasn't a show that I hate-watched but I expected better execution. I've regretted spending my hours watching this rubbish of a show. Can't give support or trust to this writer. Never again.

K2 for JCW, of course. There are quite a few dramss I finished with gritted teeth but you're kind of forced to look for a tiny silver lining. But dramas like She Was Pretty are totally a waste of time. So aggravating

I can only remember one - Bride of Habaek. I watched up to the first 10 minutes of the finale so I think it counts. I was new to kdramas then and I remember thinking, it cant be this bad.. after all, my kdrama -watching friends had been urging me to watch for years. After this experience, I decided to apply the Marie Kondo technique - if it doesn't give me joy anymore, then I drop (even if I like the actors). Recent drops : Woori, Our Blues, Sh**ting Stars, The Sound of Magic, Just Between Lovers, Lost, etc.

I don’t know how I missed that quote of the day🤣
‘Apply the Marie Kongo technique - if it doesn’t give me joy anymore, then I drop’
I will be using this approach as I take things off the continue watching list as a lot have been in a holding position for weeks!

What a beginning...I'm new here (though I've silently read a lot), and my first post evah will be about a hate-watched show - but I just couldn't sit this one out. So, my hate watch was "Chocolate". I don't have any problems to drop a drama I don't like, normally, but this one was a recommendation by a person with a (usually) same taste in kdrama as mine. Plus - there's all the food! The lovely food sections made me watch until the end. And the hope which was already mentioned by many - that it might still get better. What really put me off was the portrayal of Ha Ji Won's character (I forgot her name). I love how she cooked but I hated how she never talked. Never responded in any way to all the abuse that came down on her. How she held on to her idiot brother (oh my God that brother was sooo over the top - was it the writing? The actor? The director? Everything?). I know he redeemed himself a tiny little bit in later episodes but before that I fast forwarded through his scenes from a certain point on because I just couldn't stand that guy. She was so very passive (even to her love interest). I always hoped that this would be adressed or mentioned in any way but it never was. Plus I found the affect and impact that trauma has on people's lives was so much better depicted in "Just between Lovers" (at least in my opinion), so in that aspect Chocolate could only lose. All in all it was a very mixed bag for me, and after I finished the last episode I let out a sigh of relief and noticed that I really didn't like this one...

I love this explanation as Chocolate was one I couldn’t get past the first episode. I keep reading about how great it is so felt I should give it another go however this gives me ample reason to step away. I have hate watched a couple of highly recommended dramas thinking it must be me missing something or it must get better and I just need to hold out until then! This reinforces the message that we know ourselves best and it’s best to go with the initial feeling that it’s not working for me so its ok to do a frozen and let it go!

It's always a question of personal taste, but Chocolate seemed to be - for me - a patchwork drama that borrowed elements from other shows (which where done better in those other shows) and never came to be a whole thing. Plus I never really felt the ML. Plus I really can't stand those passive female characters who are just taking in and never let out and being too girly about everything (omg I slept with my head on the shoulder of a man I HAVE TO SQUEAK AND CRY AND WHINE...please. You're a 30-something grown up woman. Just kiss him. 😉). Part why I kept on watching may have been that I just couldn't believe Ha Ji Won could play such a character, and there has to come some sort of big reveal or turnaround or whatever - but it never happened. I'm still somewhat mad at this show, I notice...
