Premiere Watch: Green Mothers’ Club

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Drama, friendship
Episode count: 16

There are a bunch more dramas coming this weekend, but in JTBC’s mid-week slot (taking Thirty-Nine’s place) is Green Mothers’ Club. Led by a cast of five women — Lee Yo-won, Chu Ja-hyun, Kim Gyu-ri, Jang Hye-jin, and Joo Min-kyung — the drama explores the ups and downs (and school politics) of motherhood. I feel like we’ve had one too many dramas about mothers, whether scary or wonderful, and their place in their child’s education, but Green Mothers’ Club does look like it will lean on the friendship angle. Regardless, I’ll be checking it out for Chu Ja-hyun alone — she wowed me in My Unfamiliar Family.

I'm always up for female centric dramas, even if I've seen this particular plot a hundred times. Hopefully, they bring something different to it.

Also, can DB somehow disable the ratings feature until a drama at least starts airing. This isn't the first drama I've seen this happen with.

I think so too. The drama has not been aired yet and it has a rating. They should enable rating feature only after half of the episodes are aired.

I was so surprised to see this rated with a 7, when even the first episode hasn't aired.

@db-staff could this be possible?

I remember whey they talked about it the first time, I said I hoped people will wait for the end of a drama to rate it in order to give a note that judge the whole drama.

@db-staff
I have two suggestions:
1. For future and upcoming Kdramas, please create the Dramabeans Kdrama entry pages only right after the first episode aired. Don't get quickly creating the Dramabeans Kdrama entry page before the first episode airs.
2. Can we need to renaming Currently Recapping to just Current Coverage?

I want to support a female-centered drama, but the kdrama genre I dislike the most (after horror) is school politics. So I'm hoping this one ends up having a compelling family and friendship base that pulls me in.

I'm willing to give a try because I share your Cha Ja-hyun love and I always want to check on anything Jang Hye Jon is in, but this gender... I also can be wrong, after all I utterly enjoyed a drama about dishwashers, so...

Genuinely adore most of the actresses involved, but this genre of PTA mothers in school politics is overdone, overdramatic and exhausting. More dramas exploring the complexities of modern motherhood would be interesting, but this cannot be the only direction taken by writers and directors. These actresses are incredibly talented and versatile and deserve a wider variety of roles to play at their age than just overbearing tiger-moms.

On Mother’s and school politics/competition/societal pressure: this area is such a huge part of Women's lives , identities and parenting in South Korea it’s probably cathartic and so relatable to moms to watch these kinds of dramas.
