Dark thriller drama King of Pigs casts main trio

King Dong-wook, Kim Sung-kyu, Chae Jung-ahn
Kim Dong-wook (You Are My Spring), Kim Sung-kyu (A Piece of Your Mind), and Chae Jung-ahn (Monthly Magazine Home) have been cast in the drama adaptation of the animated film, King of Pigs. The drama is a crime thriller that begins with a mysterious message from a friend from twenty years ago. Events unfold centering around a serial murder case.
Kim Dong-wook plays Hwang Kyung-min, a man who experienced traumatic school bullying twenty years ago. He married and was living a happy life with his wife when an incident prompts him to remember and relive those horrific memories.
Kim Sung-kyu plays Jung Jong-seok, a detective who pursues the trail left behind by a friend’s message from twenty years ago. It causes him to remember the violence he experienced all those years ago at school and makes him more determined to prevent the murders that are happening in the present.
Last but not least, Chae Jung-ahn plays charismatic detective Kang Jin-ah. She’s normally a strict rule-follower, but when she gets fixated on a case, she’ll go through hell or high water to solve it. In the drama, she’s Jung Jong-seok’s sunbae from the police academy. Because of her independent investigations, she’s often on the receiving end of many complaints, but she never wavers in her focus.
The original animated film King of Pigs was written and directed by award-winning Train of Busan director Yeon Sang-ho. It went on to receive critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Thus, the anticipation for the drama adaptation has been high.
TVING original series King of Pigs, directed by Kim Dae-jin and written by Tak Jae-young, will begin filming in August.

Dang, I realize one of the great truisms of dramaland is that one cannot run from the past, but after Find Me in Your Memory, You Are My Spring and this one in direct succession, if I were Kim Dong-wook, my next role would definitely be a character who lives 100 percent in the present...

Wow filming for YAMS just wrapped I hope KDW gets some much deserved rest before diving into this one. A complete change of his recent roles I'll be looking forward to this drama just for him. He deserves way more recognition.

I'm looking for a meaty crime thriller. Hopefully this will be it. A bit worried about Chae Jung-ahn's role. I hope it's not too irritatingly simplistic.

Wow, I saw this film in 2012 and it's intense. I really wonder how much the drama will be able to get away with airing.

It sounds much less dark than the original animated film. For a start, Kyung-min certainly did NOT live happily with his wife, and neither man was a cop. And though I don't remember any serial killer, the stuff that happened in school was at least as bad as any serial killing.
