Drama viewership ratings for the week of Dec. 27, 2021-Jan. 2, 2022

With year-end festivities and award shows keeping people busy (and preempting some usual air times), things are pretty quiet on the ratings front. Even so, we’ve had a lot of dramas air their final episodes this week: Melancholia, Secret Royal Inspector and Joy, and The Red Sleeve Cuff have all completed their runs, with one obvious ratings winner among them. (Does this mean we’re getting the dance?!)

I like "Uncle" a lot. The lead actor has been one of my favorites since "It's okay to not be okay."

Congratulations The Red Sleeve team🎉. It's the first MBC drama in 6 years to cross 15pc mark.
Honestly the finale aired until 1:00 am. And it still peaked at 17.4 pc. Koreans really adored this drama. The ratings would have gone even higher if not for the back to back airing.
As for me i am still dealing withdrawal symptoms and a headache after crying straight for 2 hours over the last 2 episodes.

I'm not watching Red Sleeve but it's good to see MBC doing better than KBS and SBS for a change. Actually it's generally nice to see well-made underdogs like MBC's Red Sleeve and TV Chosun's Uncle trouncing shows that have received much more hype, like Now We're Breaking Up, Snowdrop and Bad and Crazy.

By the rating cross 15% .. do you mean W:Two World (even though it's not in its last eps rating)?
That time, Lee Jong Suk got the Daesang so I thought Junho will get the same.

The Red Sleeve is probably one of my fav dramas of the year. Started watching it without any expectations because I have already seen Lee San a couple of years ago and the Fatal Encounter so I thought what can the Red Sleeve offer and I was surprised. I knew Junho was a good actor and this took his acting to another level. Lee Se Young was gorgeous and the supporting cast was great too. Overall very good drama.

You left out The King of Tears though: It has 7.4% and 10.2%

It is a good drama, though it is a bit darker- but that is in part because it seems to be historically fairly accurate. It actually reminds me of a Shakespearean tragedy.

Well....
Looks like we're going to see Joonho's dance after all.
Hats off to his acting skills. He's always natural in front of camera but I'm so proud that he's getting better and better and has cemented his solid career as an actor.
Congrats to The Red Sleeve team. It's been a wonderful ride.

I'm glad to see TV Chosun and Channel A added to the list, especially since their dramas are doing so well. Uncle is wonderful, and I'm happy that the ratings keep rising

Congratulations to Thee Red Sleeve for beating their ratings goal, even with looooong back-to-back episodes.

It is wonderful that you added Uncle and Show window, but please don't forget about King of tears, Yi Bang Won! And, of course, add all of them to the list of dramas currently airing! Thank you!

Really happy for Red Sleeve; those ratings are well deserved. It's one of the best dramas I've ever personally watched and I'll miss it.

I feel bad about The One and Only's bottom-of-the-barrel numbers. A melodrama that takes place in a hospice was never going to be a ratings smash, but it deserves more attention, imo. It's well written and directed, and although the ML is a unique anti-hero (or a big weirdo, depending on your POV) and the romance is clearly ill-fated, it's still a satisfying watch.

SRI&J fans. If you are still in the mood for sageuk hyjinks come on over to MOONSHINE. The episode 4 rating of 7.6% is the series high.
It is nice seeing Yoo Seung-ho in hanbok again. All the leads are giving nice performances imo.

CONCLUSION OF MY IMAGINARY TAEC vs JUNHO HORSERACE.
SRI&J episodes 13-16 ratings: 3.4%, 3.2%, 3.6%, 3.8%
TRS episodes 13-16 ratings: 12.8%, 13.0%, 14.3%, 17.0%
(To be fair I am calling the race after 16 episodes.)

If I assign one horse length to one percentage point in the ratings, my call of the finish of the race would be:
“Down the stretch we go and Junho continues to pull away from Taec and crosses the finish line 13 lengths ahead of Taec. Junho is dancing in the winner’s circle.

Someone owes us a dance.

Despite some mis-steps in the script YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN continues to gain ground.

Looks like Young Lady and Gentleman is a long family drama. I only watch 1 episode but it seems like it. So though its rating is high but its viewers could be in a different demographical range. So 30% rating could be equivalent to 10% of short series.

You are right that Weekenders as we call them probably draw a different demographic. But ratings that climb above 32% are good even by Weekender standards. More significantly is that the climb has been essentially continuous.
