[Drama Chat] What was the best drama of 2021?

Come on over, we’re trying a new thing!

Here’s how it works: we’ll pose a question or conversation starter, and then it’s fair game for everyone to chat, rant, rave, or even carve out a master’s thesis around said topic.

Psst! We’re dipping our toes in here, so please let us know how you like it. If it’s a hit, we’ll make this a regular thing and open the floor to chat topic suggestions.

And now to our chat topic: what was the best drama of 2021? (Hint: There are no right answers.)

Let the chatting begin!

My favourits are:
(1) You are my spring. Wonderful interaction between the main cast. And I’m a huge fan of SHJ. It’s not perfect though, especially the last few episodes.
(2) Dali and Cocky Prince. Finally a romance with main characters that know how to communicate with each other, and have a healthy relationship. Pretty light though.
(3) Penthouse 2. I’ll not mention 3.
(4) Vincenzo. It could have ended up higher but for the silly Italian/Maffia clichés.
That being said, none of these will end up in my top 10 of all time I’m afraid.

Can I just say how happy I am to see a DB post with 2 pages on it again? I feel like that used to be the norm, the minimum for the OT, and I looked forward to everyone's comments. It's good to see that we've still got it :)

2021 was a bit of a disappointment for me, drama-wise. I tried a lot of different dramas, but there weren't very many that sucked me in and just made me go: "wow, that was a quality production". Still, there were some fun ones. My top pick is probably:

Hometown. I haven't seen anybody mention this drama when I skimmed the comments so far... but I totally loved it. The raw grief of the sister, the psycho smiles of the brother, the young girl trying to figure everything out... it was a crazy drama without a lot of answers, but a great vibe.

Honorable mentions to the Red Sleeve Cuff, which honestly tore my heart out and was probably the one I got the most invested in, but it lost points for being a bit draggy in the 10-12 episodes.

Also honorable mentions to Happiness, which was a thoughtful zombie drama. I enjoyed the mental aspect of the survivors more than the action fighting sequences.

Finally, honorable mentions to the Witch's Diner for being a quirky drama not afraid of not-totally-happy endings. There was always a price to pay. :)
