So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Currently weecapping: The Veil, Yumi’s Cells, Dal-li and Gamjatang

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha: I think I half-slept through Episode 9, but then 10 delivered what I really wanted to see: finally, that recognition between Chief Hong and Hye-jin. However unlikely it would be that they both came to this realization on the same night, I don’t care — it was a lovely moment, I love how direct Hye-jin was, I love how Chief Hong infiltrated her heart, and above all I love the prospect of them being in love and on display. Bring on the cute, we need it!

Currently recapping: Human Disqualification

Hometown: I’m always down for a good creepy drama, so I’ve been looking forward to this one. The cast is top-notch, and I like the vibe. It’s also fun that it’s set in the ’80s and ’90s. It’s not quite as horror as I’d hoped, but we might be moving more in that direction. So far, I’m intrigued.

The Veil: I like that everyone is a suspect – it provides more tension and makes the mystery more fun. I’m still surprised at how brutal this is; it’s more what I’d expect of a gritty OCN drama. Since these action spy stories aren’t always my thing, I kinda wondered if it’d be able to hold my interest in the second week, but Namgoong Min is roping me into this one, and I might just have to see it through.

Dali and Gamjatang: I freaking love Dal-li. She’s so refreshing as a character. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Park Kyu-young, but I’m pleasantly surprised by her understated performance. The drama is a little more stylistically over-the-top than I’d like, especially when it comes to some characterizations, but I’m invested enough in the plot (and Dal-li) to overlook it. Moo-hak is a bit obnoxious for me, yet Kim Min-jae manages to somehow still make him endearing. I could do with less yelling all the way around, though.

Currently recapping: Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

Police University: I’m behind (episode 11), but I’m still loving this show — and especially our little student team. While it’s by no means the most suspenseful or interesting mystery, these kids just make me so happy. Well, most of them… I really wanted to like Min-gyu, but it’s looking like he won’t get to do much other than try to get Kang-hee to him instead of Sun-ho — when what he really knows and likes is the version of her that only exists in his head.

Still loving Lovers of Red Sky. Sometimes we can see the drama's seams too much, like, it feels like they want to give us all the pretty scenes and
they pop out of nowhere (piggyback riders and bathing Evil Prince, I'm looking at you), but everything is just so pretty that I don't care. And Mawang is back, yay!

Yumi's cells: after a delightful start, episode 5 was all about the love triangle and, more importantly, about the issues that can end up being the fault lines in a relationship - lack of transparency, insecurity... Drama is following the source webtoon closely (the present was different, though, ah!), and this was also a least favourite moment for me while reading, but then it became clear that this isn't your typical OTP-centric story. It's all about choices, and how some relationships end up failing but help you grow, so, yeah, I didn't like episode 5 too much, but I know that it is necessary for the story arc, ​unlike most kdrama love triangles.

Dali and Prince: episodes 1 and 2 are delicious cotton candy.

Human Disqualification: iqiyi is being really stingy in my region, so I only got to watch until ep 4. Loving it, it's so affecting I can't even start to talk about it.

Beyond Evil: I can never watch murder dramas fast. On episode 13 now, and still loving this slow ride.

You raise me up: Yoon Shin Yoon, why? 😭 I now understand the concept of hate watch.

On hold: Racket Boys (ep 13), Wok of Love (ep 16, not even Junho's face can get me to watch yet another cooking contest)

Last Sunday I also watched animated movie Silent Voice 💚💚💚

I just want to say that Evil Prince bathing was a gift scene I didn't expect to receive. If only seen Kwak Si Yang in Chicago Typewriter where he nailed the bad guy, and here we go again. He's an awesome baddie you want to mess with, isn't he?

I really loved Wok of Love, and not only because of Junho, it was funny and has one of the best bromances in dramaland. But I get your poing. Going through Confession and its terrible music is tough even with Junho's face. And voice. Let's not forget his deep voice (why do they always make him sing in the higher tone? Yes, I know, because he can...).

"Evil Prince bathing was a gift scene I didn't expect to receive" - I'd say it's the present that keeps on giving. We've seen him bathing at least 3 times since the beginning of the drama 😂 Nefarious Royal Bath™ is a sageuk trope I'd never complain about, though

HOMETOWN CHA-CHA-CHA : I like this, but I think I would like it better if it wasn’t so aware that everyone loves KSH right now so he needs to look cool and attractive. It stops his character feeling real.

DALI AND GAMJATANG - a lot of people don’t seem like the mystery, but I like a good rom-com with mystery hijinks so I’m happy. It’s kind of a shame they went the route of making her broke because I liked the dynamic of old money, new money but probably makes for better drama. I cannot get behind her hair though.

POLICE UNIVERSITY - it is there, I am watching it. It’s not amazing but it’s fine.

YUMI’S CELLS - I’m not sure if I will continue, the multi-season thing puts me off even if I know it’s planned.

Older dramas -

I finished rewatching THE GREATEST LOVE (for the millionth time) and it’s just the best.

Oh and variety -

MASTER IN THE HOUSE - I didn’t expect to because politics but I’ve actually enjoyed the presidential candidate episodes a lot so far. Possibly because they dialed down the aggressively Having The Best Time vibe (presumably to not appear to favour anyone), possibly because Yu Su Bin is much better suited to variety than Cha Eun Woo (his face when he was working out what a vasectomy was cracked me up hugely).

I LIVE ALONE - watching older episodes and came across Namgoong Min looking for sea turtles in Hawaii which was a thing I didn’t know I needed.

HOMETOWN CHA CHA CHA continues to rock - we love this show.

But we love DALI AND GAMJATANG as well. This show just put smiles one our faces. It has the most endearing and perfect OTP I have ever seen in a romcom.

We continued to watch the Chinese rom-com GO INTO YOUR HEART on VIKI. There was a fun scene where the FL comes home to find her father crying in front of the television after a particularly heartrending scene from the great Chinese costume fantasy drama ASHES OF LOVE. A scene that my wife had just described to me two days before. She binged ASHES OF LOVE this week, and I could see why she liked it so much- there is a reason why it is considered one of the best of the Xianxia genre. It really is that good. In any case GO INTO YOUR HEART is light but good.

There are now a few more episodes of the Chinese costume drama JUN JIU LING which have been subtitled- my wife has really liked this show.

LOVERS OF THE RED SKY is back and we continue to love it. My wife will literally ask me, every evening, is there more RED SKY yet? I think that this show is really well done.

BE MY DREAM FAMILY ended this week. So what to watch now? There is a new weekend family drama starting: YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN. I watched the first two episodes and so far it seems to be OK, but we will see.

I'm slowly catching up with the Dream Family, still 20 eps to go. I checked the new Sound of Music drama 😀... but it can't compare to Dream Family... I will probably still watch some episodes... to see how the Young Lady will sing Doe a deer... 😁

I had not thought of the comparison with SOUND OF MUSIC (which is based upon a true story- I have actually visited the Trapp family lodge in Stowe Vermont) but there do seem to be some similar elements- I bet our FL could carry a tune if she had to but it seems unlikely that YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN will be turned into a musical.

DREAM FAMILY was exceptional for a daily drama. I simply hope that YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN will be at least an average weekender.

I've been waiting for Episode 10 recap for ages, I can't wait any longer, so I'll vent my happiness out here a little. Can a Seaside romance be this beautiful? It really helped she confessed first. Waiting for Du-shik to finally spit out those words would take years. I'll spill out the remaining later.

(b)ONE THE WOMAN (/b): I was looking for another weekend drama to keep me busy since Hometown Cha will be ending in a couple of weeks, and I found this. It's quite bad and okay at the same time. Fake Kang Mi-na is the only thing keeping me glued on it. I seem to like the fact that no one in her in-laws house knows who she really is. The mild suspense is quite funny.

It's weird that a K-drama is topping the Netflix rankings and it's show that I have zero interest in watching. But then again, I drifted to Asian TV in part to get away from the ultra-violence of a lot of American shows.

Name one American show in a current run that is ultra violent as you say. Or in the past 5 years.

You like kdramas and that is fine but stop thinking that they are above the fray because they sure want an American audience to watch them.

@larelle79 As an American, I've watched plenty of American media over the years, and while there are definitely wonderful things out there, I find the American tendency to celebrate dark, gritty, cynical shows/films created by men problematic. While the Korean film industry has had similar tendencies for a long time, there's a reason I much prefer Korean TV largely written by women and aimed at a mostly female audience. Everyone is happy to like what they like, but I hope that the things that attracted me to k-drama in the first place, such as an emphasis on character development and relationships and a refreshing lack of casual gun violence don't disappear.

Agree with Larelle. Every day, you read some beanie knocking Western TV just to praise K-dramas as the shiznit when K-dramas (and most of K-everything really) have been blatantly ripping off Western works (& other Asian works) and don't even attempt to be creative when doing it. Not to mention the pitiful K-remakes of Western works.

I find the handwringing by kdrama viewers over Netflix "polluting" kdramas to be wholly misplaced.

Netflix is creating Korean shows for the global audience, not for the Korean audience. Those are two different audience groups with separate tastes. Netflix KR's original series are so different from your classic kdramas that they should be thought of separately.

If you want your classic kdramas, the regular Korean networks will keep churning them out.

Also, there are so many great American/Western shows out there that you can easily find things that aren't dark, gritty, or cynical. Some of the biggest hits of the past two years don't check any of those boxes.

Actually I've been worried for a long time about the fact that most K-dramas are written by women for women, yet are laden with gender stereotypes, problematic relations between men and women, etc. Years ago I was impressed by Jeon Do-yeon's character in Lovers in Prague so I made a start on Secret Garden. Well that put me off Kim Eun-sook for life. These days I pick my K-dramas very carefully, e.g. I make sure I give KES and the Hong Sisters a very wide berth. And IMO even among the less problematic K-dramas there are more male-centric than female-centric ones. Shows like Age of Youth and Daebak Realty are relatively rare.

I agree that just because screenwriters are female doesn't guarantee that shows will reject gender stereotypes (and unfortunately, in many cultures, some of the staunchest supporters of patriarchy are women). Also, all entertainment industries produce plenty of schlock that recycles stale tropes and cliches. However, I have found that who is writing shows and who they're writing for does tend to shift what gets emphasized, and this affects not just how female characters are portrayed but how male ones are as well. One thing I've appreciated about the best k-dramas I've watched is that they tend to look at violence critically and to really unpack its long term effects both on the person committing the acts and on society as a whole, and again, I think this has to do with who's writing the shows more than anything unique about Korean society as a whole (this is not the case in most Korean films I've seen for instance). Maybe I'm sensitive to this because I've seen a lot of comments lately, mostly by American men, stating that it's awesome that K-dramas are finally becoming more like Korean films and moving away from being "fluffy soap operas for housewives". The blatant misogyny of suggesting that entertainment viewed as "feminine" isn't real art and that shows can only be taken seriously once the body count reaches a certain level and they stop being less "romantic" and "emotional" is deeply troubling.

2 things:

1st - Just a plug for "Girls Generation 1979". For me, this little drama packs a punch. Also, fascinating how various women's roles are played out without overly demonising them.

2nd - I suspect one of the issues is that many new (non South Korean) audience, are not used to reading the subtext or even see cultural context of what is being communicated (as it is outside their experience). It's like cartoons that work on both a child's level and a darker adult level. Just seeing the simplified view from the outside things just look interesting with a bit of exotic filial piety ritual sprinkled on top.

It may take a while, but once you see it you can't un-see it. For me, I am always amazed at the comments on DB about school bullying being an exaggeration, when for the SK context of Wang-tta it's actually an understatement.

Now, SK gets to make dramas for themselves and it is their right to celebrate their culture and stories. I am just an interloper, however I don't need to valorise it.

SK Drama may not be full of gun violence, but that doesn't mean they aren't dark and full of violence. (Korean Noir didn't come out of nowhere and isn't just an aberration.)

Even at a basic level, SKDrama is a world that has hierarchal power baked in. Power infuses every level of social interactions and no-one thinks twice about its brutal enforcement. In fact the brutality is drama-normal.

I tried to watch Inheritance. I just can't. The characters are all so vile - violent or otherwise. It's simply distasteful. It's like a frog in water that is slowly being heated up. If you're in the pot, you don't notice it (for a while), but if you're out of the pot, you can see the frog cooking. That's how the decline in cultural production coming out of the US is happening. Those outside can see it. If you're in it, you may not be so aware.

At one point, Bridgerton - based on a series of regency-period romance novels (the kind women are shamed for reading because they typically have barechested hunks on the covers and have graphic sex scenes) that were published in the early 2000s- topped the netflix rankings. I expect the 2nd season will top the rankings too. I was a fan of the novels and didn't realize that it would rope in so many viewers! So I'm not surprised to find anything unexpected like a kdrama in the Netflix rankings. You never know what will draw audiences!

The American tv landscape is large enough that I can easily avoid violent shows. I'm from the US and most of my US tv shows are comedies. I'm glad that the korean drama landscape is also expanding into a variety of genres and stories. This gives actors more roles to try out.

The next season of Bridgerton may not air until January, but the first was a credit to Netflix.

I watch almost no American television anymore. Little of it is that entertaining. But I do find that watching K-dramas, C-dramas, T-dramas and even occasional J-dramas has the added advantage of giving me at least some insight into the lives of people in other countries. Even the occasional Scandinavian mystery series can have that effect while I have also enjoyed shows from other counties as well. These in turn have lead me to reading and taking courses in the history of India, Japan, China and Korea, often learning things that came as a complete surprise to me.

Yep!! Since the K-drama industry is much smaller, for the longest time, there wasn't that much diversity/variety in their genres/shows. Since 2016 onwards, there's been a bit more and its really helped to elevate K-dramas as a whole. With more Western companies coming in, it will be interesting to do how far it changes the K-drama landscape as a whole, esp. as more people continue to watch OTT in the future.

One thing is for US shows, b/c its so vast/huge, that we are able to get a variety of stuff. But sometimes, it overstays its run. Tbh, both Korea/US have strong entertainment industries, but US industry is bigger/more global so its honestly not a fair situation imo to compare. It also helps to avoid certain ahem actors more so, since you can skip their works vs I find in Korea sometimes. It is fun though to see many talents pop up in several dramas in the same year but different vibes! That's so fun for me to watch as a viewer!

especially with the supporting/side characters. I love being able to recognize them in kdramas and see them in different roles.

I just finished watching it. While I'm vicariously proud of its success, I find it ironic that it's this drama, which is so horribly violent, that has captured such a large audience. It's very well written, well acted, and has a strong point to make (that's not hard to get). The games are simple. The results are brutal. The sets are both stylised and ugly, at times nightmarish. But we are made to care about the characters, and there's a heap of suspense with a couple of twists that are gratifying, as well as predictable. (At one point I expected a character to exclaim "Lee Byun-hyun!", not what he did exclaim.) It's fascinating that this fits the diet of the majority of viewers, wherever they come from. Is it about catharsis? Does it speak to our lives? Lots of young people are devouring it and buying green tracksuits. Is it the perfect metaphor for what they feel life is like, especially if so many lives are lived through the lens of computer games. Dying isn't irreversible in that world. Move to Heaven says so much more about life, but Squid Game is what people want to watch.

Move to Heaven was very good. But the last 2 episodes, it kinda lost my attention. I felt the episodes drag a bit, and I dunno if it was my mood or so, but it didn't grab me as much as the first 6 episodes did. Solid show, but something was missing for me. I did S2 being made, so that will be good to show more stories of marginalized groups.

I watched it. I didn’t find it to be a masterpiece on the levels of previous Netflix originals like Move to Heaven or D.P, but it was still enjoyable and mostly well-written and acted.

I watched it when it first came out as did several other Beanies. I enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to become such a phenomenon, but I'm not that surprised either. The Deadly Game genre is popular, and I imagine the message speaks to people, no matter where they are from.

I always try to avoid anything related to killing in anything I watch. 😂 I don’t want to see anyone killed, not even in a drama, because it is painful to watch.

I think this is very evident in my choices of dramas. 🤣 Now I’m watching Darli, 18 Again and am considering Yumi’s Cells.

I'm watching BACKSTREET ROOKIE with beautiful Kim Yoo Yung !! In my opinion the most beautiful Korean actress.

The show is as fun as it can no longer be done in the West due to wokeism and paolitically correct.

You are right that it could not be done in the West. While I actually find the whole "cultural appropriation" complaint absurd and even historically wrong because all healthy cultures appropriate things from other cultures - for instance I hate the idea that we should have to return to using Roman Numerals instead of Arabic ones- which in turn the Arabs had appropriated from India (including the all important zero) because we appropriated them from the Arabs (who had taken them from the Indians). Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all.

But that being said the drama would have been better off without the 'culturally inappropriate' side character in it- I found him irritating and unneeded in what was a great show that ultimately had a lot to say about family and the ethics of dating. I know that the show was trying to stay true to the Manwha it was based upon but what works as a humorous element on paper (poking fun at 'Cosplay') does not necessarily play well on the stage or the screen. So even though I reject the whole cultural appropriation complaint I actually agree that the show would have been better off omitting that character.

And Kim Yoo-jung is indeed gorgeous, as my wife is always pointing out. And really talented, as you can see in the currently broadcasting LOVERS OF THE RED SKY

Kim Yoo-jung as she matures has a visual that is largely missing from current SK pop culture as it tends finer and finer body type.

For me, she fits with the absolutely stunning South Korean women form outside that narrow body type (e.g. Horan/Clazziquai Project, Hyorin /Sistar, and Hwasa/Mamamoo). Kim Yoo-jung really does rock it and I am surprised it is not more common as it opens up a style of beauty that works for a number of women.

That being said, I wish she chose better/meatier projects. For me, I most enjoy her scenes that ask something more from her beyond the basic romcom component. I would hate for her to become trapped - just type cast as the romcom beautiful underdog.

Lovers of the red sky: I haven't watched this week's episodes, but I binge-watched it until episode 5. I particularly love the supernatural and the absence of court politics which sometimea can make sageuks too difficult to follow.

Hometown cha cha cha: I think the acting and the visuals are playing a huge part in why I am still watching this. The story is absolutely nothing new, but it's still nice to watch. I was a bit annoyed by Du Sik's way of interacting with Hye Jin's Dad, and I rolled my eyes when she stepped into the rain and recalled that day when Du Sik's pushed her into doing something she wasn't comfortable doing; also annoyed that it ended as a trigger to realize that she likes him, and I couldn't help but think about her poor friend that she left stranded with no ride back to Gongjin! Bref! Still watching this. Lol.

Human disqualification: I loved the first two episodes; but I am having a super hard time with episode 3. I feel like it's moving a bit too slow for me. Not much is happening. We still don't know a lot and I just want things to move along. I guess I am just not in the mood right now for something in that genre.

Hospital Playlist 2: Although the HP series is among my favorite series, I have to admit that season 2 left me a bit underwhelmed. Still, it was a nice watch.

Your description of Home Cha is on point. It's annoying just reading about it. His interaction with Hye Jin's dad was the last straw for me. And that bland kiss at the end, the final nail in the coffin.

Hye jin's epiphany in Seoul and her spiel about why she likes him because "opposites attract" sounded so lame and hallow. This must be one of the worst confession I have seen. The kiss was so bland, it had no impact at all. It wasn't even well done. Shot with poor lighting and bad direction. On the other hand, Dali and Moo Hak's power interruption entanglement had more sizzle than this kiss.

My conclusion: Home Cha is the Kim Seon Ho show made for his fangirls. I have no intention to hate watch a show with poor charaterization, bad writing and no substance so this is the end of the line for me.

There's certainly something about HomeCha that makes me very grumpy but the arc with Hye-jin's dad really took the cake. It feels to me that the writer is trying to make Du-sik a kind of jolly oblivious influencer of people but he comes across more obnoxious than jolly. I like his minimalist philosophy on life but I don't like him. Not even the magic of Kim Seon-ho can do it for me. According to the set-up Dad was supposed to be the cantankerous snob but Du-sik doesn't exactly come across smelling like roses either.

It's an interesting phenomenon (more interesting than the show itself) that the show elicits such sharply contradictory opinions.

Right now I'm only watching for the visuals. If the rest of the family weren't watching it, I'd probably be moving on as well.

I'm normally more tolerant of rom coms because of the fluff it brings so I'm surprised too at the way Du Sik pokes on all the wrong places. It must be the way his character is written. Obnoxious is just about right. That feeling he gives off that comes across as superior, know-it-all, "I'm always right". And his approach on another person that makes one go on defensive.

I'm comparing it to Moo Hak's character in Dali where he's even more boisterous than Du Sik. But his approach is defensive instead of offensive. If that makes sense at all. He doesn't attack on another person unnecessarily. He may be loud but he's not clueless to his surroundings. In short, he comes across as a more sensitive person in spite of his loudness. An ML that the audience can root for.

I’m sad to type it here that this is also my feeling. I had been waiting for Homecha for half a year, and BB KSH got a character that is so difficult for me to root for. I’m not sure about what went wrong with the character for me, but I don’t like this character. I stopped at ep6 despite how much I love the actor. I had hoped that his I always know the right thing to do attitude has something to do with his trauma. I’m not sure how this will pan out.

This particular comment abt Homecha made me come and read all below related comment and say "big yes".
DS as character is not at all likable for his "I am the best, I know it all, I can correct you all" vibe. He forced HJ doing many things which she didn't want to and then eventually she left her best friend in rain for the man she just thought she is in love with... in case I'd hav been that friend no matter how close or best.. I am sure I'd not hv talked to HJ for good couple of months may be more... that was outright wrong.

I am.watching solely for visuals and only for KSH cause I missed him badly. if not for him it was supposed to be dropped long back.

Hope KSH gets a better character (more developed and better written) in future dramas.. where I can love him as much as I appreciate the character.

I love his humor and his characteristics he shows in 2D1N. But when I watch his drama, I would love it to be a drama that he is playing the character not himself, the case of which is sadly Homecha imho.

Oh My Venus: 5/10 for the series - Solid, average show. I was looking for more Shin Min-A and this was one show of hers I hadn’t checked out. The chemistry was…fine, but I have to admit the teaser that I saw before the show was way sexier, and I was kind of hoping it had a bit more of that vibe.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha: Still good, and I’m so glad the love triangle didn’t end up being angsty. They’re all friends, and grown ups, so it was a nice touch to not have this devolve into standard kdrama tropes. At least in this regard. Still plenty of tropes of course.

The Veil: Brutal, with an unreliable narrator as our main character. Definitely not a single character is trustworthy, and that’s one way to keep us guessing.

Dali and Gamjatang: Definitely better since the duo has entered each others’ orbit again. I could use a little less of our ML yelling so much. It’s that awkward yelling when he gets flustered, and I’ve known people like that, but it’s certainly going overboard. Nothing standing out, and if I’m honest, it’s not as good as I was hoping (especially because I love both the ML and FL). Of course I’ll keep watching for now, as it still has room to improve…or get worse. I suppose we’ll see!

The Veil (Ep 5&6) - It's scary to think that technology can allow people to manipulate surveillance feeds for harmful intentions. At this point anyone can be your friend or foe depending on their agendas. Still intriguing so far, can't wait for next week.

Hometown (Ep 3&4) - The latest episodes seems to indicate that there are more than meets the eye with those who have come in contact with the VHS and cassette tapes. I do believe that the gas attack tragedy has more than one accomplice.....should I be surprise if Jung-hyun and her friends might have some role in it?

Dali ep3&4 - Kim Min Jae asking for coupon discount (of course via mobile coupon since everything is hi tech in SK) is so hilarious and in character. I can understand FL’s reluctance to ask help from Kwon Yul, wonderful undercurrents I feel from their scenes. I can’t wait to combine Min Jae’s business saviness and FL artistic talent to create powerhouse team.

LRS ep7&8 - I love it’s all out in the open on FL and ML. Prince Yangmyeong ML2 less interesting this week as he is relegated to do ML2 stuff (ie stick to FL). Previously, he had larger purpose than simply “ML2”. Let’s hope plot continues to be intricate vs just romance

Homcha - ep11 is complete filler 😂. Buti na lang I didn’t have much expectation on the story (laugh). And I like both ML and FL, so I enjoy their scenes. I also like the resolution of ML2.

One the Woman ep5&6 - I like it whenever Honey’s intelligence and assertiveness cut thru b/s from others. I guess we now know, LSY will end up with prosecutor FL, not heiress FL, with that childhood backstory.

The Veil ep5&6 - I can only watch this with multitasking! But I always like the last 3rd of every episode- this show is very good with cliffhangers ! Complete with the cool ost!

3Cha - Glad their abandoning the pining route of the movie (or they seem to be) though I'm going to chalk up my discontent with the show as something to do with the writing. Certain things just don't land well for me. Hopefully Seong-hyeon will get his own HEA.

Lost - Park Ji-young and Shin Shin-ae are great actresses. While I can't find myself liking their characters, even when giving more information about their motivations, its nice watching their portrayal.
Enjoyable watching Bu-jung and Kang-jae slowly becoming friends. Slow might be the key component. I was frustrated with the pacing before I started to respect it. Its not often I feel a drama is subtlety saying its okay to slow down.
Soon-kyu is slowly becoming a favourite character contender, though its hard to compete against Chang-sook.
Might have identified too much with Soon-joo but I remain worried about what he may choose to do in the future. Too bad Min-jung couldn't have stayed missing.

You Raise Me Up - they are certainly milking how unprofessional they can imagine a doctor to be. The portrayal as mental illness as being easily fixed is also a large turn off.

Dali & G - remains delightful

Young Lady and Gentleman - survived maybe 5 minutes. The obsession with meeting as children had a 40-year-old actor pretending to be his 20-something counterpart and riding around with a 13-year-old. They might have been aiming for cutesy and failed.

The Veil - I want to like this more than I do. Did they seriously just fridge her?

I finally earned my VINCENZO bean this week and I'm happy it stayed good into the end. I did find the last couple of episodes too long and I found all of the extended revenge a bit too extended.
But seriously, Vincenzo was such an underdog for me. The premise sounded downright silly and I started watching it with large expectations of cheese and cringe. Surprisingly, the show hit the balance of silliness, humor, cleverness and malice remarkably well if a tad too much on the violent side of things for my taste. I have rarely seen a show where I felt the individual effort to make each character shine in their own way like I felt VINCENZO did.

Hometown Cha Cha I find that I watch about 15 minutes of the whole episode anymore. I loved the confession scene in ep. 10 but episodes 11 and 12 were so cringe-y, I could barely watch them. It's not my cup of tea.
The Veil This is entirely my cup of tea and I love it. 100% all my catnip. Namgoong Min is riveting to watch. I love the propulsive action, the nutso plot (which is only going to get more nutso, I'm guessing) and I am here for all of it.
Squid GameI watched it all in two days. Holy cow, I was really surprised to see the actor behind the black mask. Dang. Hands down best episode was the marbles one. Great build up to that with the previous games, my heart was broken. The VIP episode was a huge let down after that. Still pondering the ending.
Dali and GamjatangDali is such a wonderful character and so is Moo Hak. I don't mind all the yelling - it's all he's ever learned from his family. And I bet he is about to unlearn some of that as their relationship progresses. Dali is filled with such quiet strength and confidence. I love a show that makes me root for all the good outcomes - the museum will survive, the Basquiat show will go on and our two leads will change and grow as they fall in love. Oh and the murderer is revealed. That plot point seems extraneous but oh well.
Human Disqualification My soul waits each week for the two episodes. And I feel like each week, I am torn apart by them. No different for eps. 9 and 10 which I just finished. The show is brilliant at the brief and emotion-packed scene - so little "explaining" - the writer and director just let it unfold. This show is an astonishment to me.

I agree with you about Moo-hak's yelling- it serves to underscore what he can learn from Dali. He needs Dali every bit as much as she needs him.

i am watching just to much..
1. Lovers of red sky - my fav but all the side stories have become too much to handle. Cen we get some good OTP moments ????
2. Hometown cha cha cha - KSH and his smile.. and Dimple Duo just too cute to handle.. then Halmounis and their friendship is a dream friendship that i wish i'll hv in my old age. and the the First Love confession.. was absolutely beautiful... no love triangle can match upto its level
3. Dali and cocky prince - battle of Dali's Elegance vs Moo Hak's shenanigans... loved each n every second of it.
4. Yumi's cel - watching it cause .. ahh just for the animation and how cell's interact with each other... just to know what actually happened inside my brain when i want to buy a new expensive gadget.
5. The Veil - just finished 1st episode and i loved it. NGM is all i was waiting for.
6. Devil's judge - last episode on hold for ages cause i am not able to finish it cause other on air dramas are just so fun to think abt it.
